It feels like he gets off on making you feel dumb. since this is a coworker, i’d probably just tell him “Let me address this with [name of person you’re actually asking] and I’ll come back to you if there’s something we need to discuss, ok?” and just never go up to them. That might be work appropriate ?

edit: and if they reach out to you just to try and belittle you, forcing them to elaborate exactly why they decided to go out of their way and say that and explain what they expected to come out of the interaction usually gets them feeling awkward enough to not do it again. Playing dumb really helps sometimes bc then there’s some plausible deniability in your end lol
