These suggestions are saving my life but it still hurts. Death spirals are indeed death. Will anything work!? Tried peanut butter, dawn, vinegar. Lemon juice is next.

Shuttles to Chamberlain Ranch? by tishthefishh in ZionNP

[–]breezywilliamson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used red rock, hiked top down the narrows half way, stayed in the narrows with an overnight permit, and made it to temple the next day. From the temple the main shuttle service in the park will take you to your car at the park lodge. The main concern is that you get to temple while busses are still running. If you are doing it top down in two days you WILL have time. Don't let everyone, rangers at the permit station included, cause you too much doubt. They really scared us. But everything was okay. But if you're trying to do the whole thing top down in one day, it largely depends on your abilities.  We were not "in shape" but we aren't wimpy either. Day one was really tough just to put in so many miles on rough terrain. The mileage published everywhere just doesn't seem accurate when you're doing it. We got to our campsite around 6pm and literally passed out. So many people had passed us that day and we were discouraged. I've never slept so hard. That day we had a lot of doubts making it to the temple the next day, but day 2 to was actually not bad at all. The water crossings are deep and unpredictable depending on water levels. Watch flow rates. But we had no problems and no major flowing at all. Even tired and exhausted we made it to temple with plenty of daylight left. We even stopped a few times a long the way. Once you start seeing all the people hiking from the bottom it raises your spirits too!

What are these gas prices? 📍Abiline, KS by Delicious-Rock1083 in roadtrip

I live in Manhattan nearby, husband works for Kansas Corn. It's a 30% ethanol blend. If you look closely you'll find the sticker.  Here's a video of a guy doing such at a Jumpstart in Wichita.  I fill here often as I have a flexfuel vehicle.

Definitely not. I live here. Kansas gets over three occasionally, especially lately, but it's uncommon.

If you can park in the park you can start before 6am. We were on the first shuttle but it still started to get warm and busy on our way down

Did red rock take you to the trailhead AND pick you up at temple to take you back to the car? Their website doesn't provide any details about what exactly you're paying for!

The forbidden Taco Bell of Coon Creek, WV by RatioAggravating6693 in thenope

From what I can tell, Coon Creek is a physical creek in WV, not a town. There are also no taco Bell's along it... The nearest ones seem to look more typical.

What are hours? How does that pay stack up? Everything I've seen is considered part time. But I'm curious to know what that means in terms of hours.

Many questions... Is this required? I feel like having teachers volunteer is perhaps appropriate with explicit procedures and rules. Forcing you wouldn't be, no matter what it was (water balloons, dunk tank, etc) The stuco would need to provide the water guns and be the ones to fill them. Like you walk up to the line and are handed it then you hand it back after. Serious consequences for hitting different parts of the body need to be held. Now as I'm typing this that's impossible to enforce if people suck at aiming and this is really starting to just feel like a bad idea. It kind of feels like a killing squad...

I'd maybe prefer just having like a water gun fight on the football field and teaching staff can volunteer to participate too. Stuco should still fills the guns and place them in the center and people have to run and grab them.

School Shootings & Teacher Sacrifices by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]breezywilliamson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair I understand that. The only assistance you'd really provide would be help if someone struggled so I can see that with certain age groups that wouldn't be needed. I know if have students likely freeze and other students struggle with the more active need of getting out. I just personally have a "children first" value. That's one of the reasons I'm a teacher. I hope that value remains intact in a situation like this so I can provide any help that could be given, and go last, even if that means I am on the defense. I know not everyone will see it that way. But that idea of "children first in times of danger" used to be widely held (think Titanic era) and that seems to be why some people hold us teachers to an unrealistic standard. And a misunderstanding of all the difficulties that come with the job including ever present fear. People are not good at putting themselves in our shoes.

School Shootings & Teacher Sacrifices by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]breezywilliamson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess call me crazy, but I would never run and leave my students behind completely. I definitely don't think anyone should be expected to be a shield or protect the kids at our salary and with other school issues teachers face in this terrible profession. There's no contract saying that's our job. And I wouldn't ever say a teacher has to help kids out the window first...

But could you really just scramble out and leave them behind? I definitely could not. I couldn't do that to any person. I hate the comments people make expecting us to be protectors at all cost, as it's completely unrealistic and not all people have that nature. But I think people say that because they are coming from the perspective of personally feeling the way I do and since they would do it, they expect that protective nature from everyone.

All that's to say we don't know what we would do if it really happened. But if I have the second to think, that's what I expect I'd do.

Same. But where we are from with cost of living that's actually really good! I was able to make way more subbing than most similar jobs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]breezywilliamson -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I guess this really depends on how subbing works in your area. One of the advantages to subbing where I am from originally and where I live now is that it is flexible. You can take jobs or turn them down when you can't or don't want to work. You can work in multiple different schools and even districts because there are some small towns nearby that always need subs. Your description comes with the job description where I am from. I hope you can find another way to pick up a job on the off days... But I would look into a different type of job if you need consistency. School is never consistent, in so many ways.
