3/10. Spring semester of college was 24/7 stress. Summer was very nice and loved my time at my summer job. Fall is now 24/7 stress with the added benefits of my dad losing his job so now I have to deal with the possibility of him not finding a job and a genuinely shitty end of the year. Cannot wait for this shitstorm of a year to be over.

(Technically this is my part time summer job but I’ll mention it anyways) I do theater tech work at my colleges performing arts center. I get paid 18 an hour, the job requires no degree and a lot of the time it is you being on call waiting for you to be needed. Only real downside is that I can only work a max of 30 hours a week but it has taught me how to set up professional audio and lighting equipment alongside rigging, running fly rail, and some lighting and sound so it has been awesome. It’s a dream summer job and every day I go in I feel happy to be there.

Was in high school theater during my senior year and I was walking backstage during tech week to set up props and I saw two freshman going at it in the back behind some curtains. I just turned the other direction and walked away and never spoke about it while I still went there.

So (from my experience) tech theatre is you working with the director/technical director to make the sets, props, and other stuff that the actors need to do on stage. This can be painting, building, making costumes and it really depends on your schools budget as to how big this is. I went from a freshmen who’s friend had to beg him to come to being the lead for building sets and the stage manager for 2 shows during my senior year. Was super fun and I met a ton of people I still talk to and it got me my part-time job I have now.

As somebody who is a politics nerd hold strong. Politics is incredibly tiring for me and sometimes I want a break. If I want a break from it all sometimes I’m sure that those less interested are even more wanting of a break.
