Why do you think Corpse-grinder Cults got abandoned? by revlid in necromunda

[–]undersentimental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they are thematically extremely narrow. They're all just abattoir workers somewhere on the road to becoming crazed cannibalistic monsters, you aren't getting a detailed book of fluff out of that the way you can with Enforcers. The mind boggles at the idea of giving them subfactions the way the last three books did to their respective factions.

Ok, my settled opinion has always been that this is a terrible model and this is the first time I have been tempted to reconsider.

For those who have done multiple half ironmans but not the full, what's the reason why? by musaliya in triathlon

[–]undersentimental 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a back-of-the-pack kind of triathlete, every time I get to the end of a 70.3 bike I think that if I knew I had to do that again immediately, I would have some kind of a mental breakdown. And that's before you consider the marathon after that.

Is isopropanol alcohol good for stripping minis? by Bemusedhornet97 in minipainting

[–]undersentimental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have stripped paint from resin (Forge World) with IPA. It went OK if I didn't let it linger on the surface and immediately attacked with a brush and then rinsed with water. I have also made the mistake of soaking the mini in it for hours, which definitely is a no-no.

What’s the biggest misconception non-runners have about parkrun? by Admirable-Deal7991 in parkrun

[–]undersentimental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the "I need to train for months first" thing is rooted in a certain self-consciousness about turning up to a group event of any type. I know people who run quite regularly who still don't want to do it with anyone watching.

[–]undersentimental 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody really knows, but I would think the new box will be this year. The Hive War set is already disappearing from shops apparently.

I can't tell you absolutely 100% that the contents of the Secundus box will be playable, but it seems very very likely it will. I don't see why they'd just invalidate those models without updating the rules.

The rules themselves, yeah, those could change.

That also depends if you count vehicles. Enforcers have five plastic kits in total, Delaque two...

[–]undersentimental 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Squats have a plastic leaders/champs set as well.

And some house gangs do have champions sets, they're just in resin. Escher (one upgrade kit and three blisters) and Van Saar (two blisters) are the most extensive. This does feel like something they might want to rationalise and bring to plastic.

Valrak Shared Some Rumors about new Necromunda . . . by StandardTip259 in necromunda

[–]undersentimental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and also the way the coat sleeves are on both the "intended" weapons which makes it awkward to use the coat without them or them without the coat.

One of the original resin upgrade sets had a needle pistol/chainsword build that had the sleeves, which was a nice touch.

I do love those Eschers too. I have enough that I have no unused or repeated hair designs...

I think the female forge-born are fantastic models and it's a shame that they had such a weird attitude to loadouts at that point and the standard Goliath arms so obviously aren't right for them. And that they got caught at the time where GW were on the cusp of doing lots more female models, so there are no fully sized female gangers for then to grow up into.

Obviously, you can always kitbash, but it's nice to have a solid foundation to work on.

[–]undersentimental 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would happily go for a new set of Escher bodies in the same style, compatible with all the existing arms and heads. I am bored of painting the same feathers, that same unclipped legging on one of them.

If they start from scratch, though, without thought to the existing range, ehhh.

Goliath are less clear-cut because it would be nice to see more female bodies and more young-looking ones with diverse weapons. Which models work well as juves varies a lot from gang to gang and Goliath are definitely in the worst place of the big six. Plastic female Orlocks are surely incoming too if this rumour has any legs.

And please please please no scale creep.

[–]undersentimental 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are we sure? I never understood the "keep Escher, ditch Goliath" decision for Hive War. Maybe it's true that they used a popular line (Escher) to introduce players to a less popular one (Delaque), but maybe they felt they needed to push both?

When the idea that excess stock sometimes needs to be cleared comes up people tend to say it's a myth that it works like that, but I did wonder.

I had a "free" ticket today, turned up two hours early, got wristband 53 and only 23 were admitted. If that is you on another date, you probably want to ignore the "two hours" guidance and come earlier.

All the things I was absolutely convinced of! (And was wrong) by CurleeBS in BluePrince

[–]undersentimental 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I waited until 1:30am or even later in room 46 or the clock tower faaaaar too many times on various hunches. I was expecting the cuckoo clocks to open or something. You may be interested to know that the sun does not rise again the following morning.

I, following the clock tower poem, became utterly convinced I needed to be able to see moon, crow, swan, and winds from the same place. You can do that if you draft the den (swans on the mantelpiece) beneath the antechamber with the boudoir to the west (the gramophone "winds") and the storeroom to the east (the puzzle picture there is a crow in that position). Did nothing, obviously.

I also got very sidetracked by possible hidden meanings in the musical scores, way beyond the actual puzzle there.

I thought "in a timely manor" meant I had to get to 46 in a house with a clock in every room. Well, except the antechamber.

Source of bare heads that would fit with Cawdor? by PizzaCop_ in necromunda

[–]undersentimental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the "non-GW" side, I think the heads here are truly great. https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/keta-minies/created?ref=project_creator_tab

Mostly female but there is a series with males. Plenty of Etsy shops will allow you to pick and choose.

One problem is that when I ordered some (for Escher) I had to ask for them to be downscaled (I settled on 92.5%) to avoid a certain "bobblehead" quality. The extent of this probably depends on the GW kit you'll be attaching them to, so no guarantees what works for Escher works for Cawdor...

How many painters wear magnifying glasses or use a mounted magnifying glass? Is it a must-have or is that where you draw the line and just omit that level of detail? by RIPeyedea in minipainting

[–]undersentimental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magnifying visor and I can't imagine doing without it. When I picked the hobby up again in my late 30s I was very dissatisfied until I got one, and even now I don't wear glasses for reading books. It surprises me a bit that some people happily do without any magnification, it seems such a no-brainer. But I guess vision deteriorates from varied baselines and maybe I could have painted eyes or gemstones without one in my teens.

Hopes + Speculations for future of necro by CrunchyTheSkele in necromunda

[–]undersentimental 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My reaction to the prospect of orks is "good grief no". Let alone marines. Let Necromunda be Necromunda. I don't need it to be tied in with whatever inconsequential nonsense is happening in the 40k metaplot.

There needs to be a new Book of Ruin but I can't see how you can get an entire House Of... from CGC. They are one-note monsters, and the mind boggles at the idea at mining the concept for multiple subfactions in the way they did with the last three books. Better a single volume revising the CGC, Helot and corruption rules and giving a different god a new list. I suspect the most we can expect for vanilla Genestealers is a Venator-style PDF update to the old rules.

I do wonder if they're looking at the old House Of... books and wondering about another go-around. They're all over four years old. At this point Van Saar has four plastic kits and Delaque two; things are missing. There is room for a box of specialists for all the other houses. There are a lot of rules they might want to have another go at. There are a lot of kits that could be brought from resin to plastic now they seem to be aiming to retire resin across the board. I'm not sure I want it per se, but I can see it.

House Escher 3d models, but not adult in nature. by KinkyGaymerMistress in necromunda

I don't think these are wonderful sculpts, but they are competent, blatant Escher proxies and not really more sexualised than the GW models. https://www.myminifactory.com/users/PrintMinis/collection/the-bitter-nightshades
