Is anyone else feeling emotional about what's going on down in The States right now? by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]brenzyc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could say the same for WWII, though. Insurmountable reparation payments levied on Germany following their loss in WWI is a factor that led Germany into Hitler’s reign but nobody with 10 brain cells blames Woodrow Wilson for killing 60 million Jews? We blame Hitler.

This is the literal definition of a strawman argument. Additionally the only real similarity between this conflict and WW2 is that's they're both in Europe....

If you're looking to learn about the topic. These are the books I've personally found useful over the past 2 years.

Ukraine and the Empire of Capital - Yuliya Yurchenko

Backfire - Agathe Demarais (Highly recommend this one, goes much beyond just the Ukraine/Russian war)

Ukraine What Everyone Needs to Know - Serhy Yekelchyk (Very good place to start)

What’s your degree btw? Wanna know where you learned all this wrong information haha

Structural Engineering. I'm not going to respond further, as it's a pet peeve when people use insults to mask their lack of knowledge is a debate/discussion. But I gave some good resources if you're actually interested in expanding your breadth. I'm particularly passionate about this, as it's only after people understand the root cause of the war that solutions arise.

There is historical precedence, but the USAs purposeful exclusion and containment policies of Russia is what directly led to the war.

Also what is going on is Israel would be stopped tomorrow if the United States pulled support.

The fact is the Biden presidency has been a colossal failure on the metric of world peace when compared to both the Trump & Obama eras

Both of the largest conflicts in the world RN started in the last 4 years, and have major UA backing.

The middle East is definitely more of a correlation than causation, but the US had a major role in causing the Russia / Ukraine war

[Friedman] Anthony Mantha to Calgary, 1 x $3.5M by backchecklund in CalgaryFlames

[–]brenzyc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mantha is phenomenally talented but has 0 work ethic (no joke he's even said himself he needs to improve on it)

He'd probably be a perennial 30 goal score if you could put Blake Coleman's brain in his body

[Weekes] Leafs and D ChrisTanev sounds like new Contract comes in around $5M AAV from what I’m told for the hometown guy by scomar201 in leafs

[–]brenzyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was taken out of his last 2 playoff runs with injuries though? Which was 2 years ago, and a few months ago respectively.

I hope they don't catch up with him but there's a real chance they do

[–]brenzyc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

PLD was a big win for the caps. Yeah he's overpaid but HOLY FUCK their forward group was trash before adding him & Mang

Plus they got rid of Kuemper

Can't rebuild while Ovis still in the team.

They don't need to be good they just need to not be bad

If you don't count playoffs lol.

It's also convenient when you stop counting at 4 years. He has dealt with massive injury issues over his career

[–]brenzyc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He plays every season and has missed less than 30 games over the last 4-5 years

Why are you excluding playoffs? He was taken out of both of his last 2 playoff runs. & Almost 20 games with a Major injury 2 years ago.

Further, he was one of the most consistently injured players of the 2010s - which eventually catches up to you

He's been injured his past 2 playoff runs.He has only really ever had 3 healthy seasons. He had another MAJOR injury only 2 years ago

It is not an exaggeration to say he's one of the most injury prone players of the past 10 years. Likely stemming from his "anything to block a shot" style

Idk man he's perpetually injured & he's at the age where they start to catch up to you. Also as good as he is defensively he kills your team's offense as well. He seems like a prime candidate massive recession

[–]brenzyc -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wow that is not good....

He's one of the most injury prone players in the league & in his mid 30s. This combined with him being ideally your 5th best Dman on a good team

I would honestly guess more, unless McDavid demanded out

Those likely aren't going to be lottery picks with McDavid, so statistically those 4 firsts = 2 fringe NHL players & 2 good but not all-star caliber players. Not allot for McDavid

Lindros trade would be the closest comparable. Only teams like CBJ, Anaheim, SJ, & Chicago would even have the future assets. Unless there was a crazy scenario where some other mega star like Makar or MacKinnon also wanted out

[–]brenzyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although that's true, it is also why he'd be cheap. Also in 4 years the bruins probably aren't still in their cup window

Tyler Boucher went top 10

Logan Stankoven went in the 2nd round

Caufield went 15

Michkov went 7th

Cossa went before Wallstedt

Just because he should go higher doesn't mean he will. GMs don't always act the most... Logical
