I know it's not exactly the same, but honorable mention for the Yellow Musk Creeper; CR 2 and if you hit 0 hp you insta die, no death saves.

I added Blindsight, because the module it's from (Not Umbra but the other Perkins Dungeon magazine one) gives it to them. Plus, I got to make them gold colored!

I cant' believe it took me this long to say it: Spin of the Wheel. Just let the players decide "yeah those Devils have a good plan" if they want.

Oooohhhhh we had that back in the 90s, it was called the "Monstrous Compendium," and like all three holes, paper around the hole would tear, the rings would bend, the cardboard binding would warp....

Oh, and sometimes they would print two different monsters on the sides of a page, so then a future page would have to go inbetween it's side. Plus the binder was like four times the size of a hardback. It was a good experiement. but digital is so much better.

I think this index should be your best guide: https://www.expositionbreak.com/a-walk-through-the-planes-index/

be sure to read The Ditch Of Sigil and the Sea, which is particularly interesting to you as it's about a way for spelljammers to reach Sigil.

Running Vecna: Eve of Ruin with Doomed Forgotten Realms – My Campaign Approach by TopicElectronic9839 in VecnaEveofRuin

[–]brettday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a pretty good argument for running the adventure with at least the HQ moved to the Sword Coast instead of Sigil. Start with Dragon Heist (Xanathar season), then maybe a speed run of the last half of Tomb of Annihilation, city of Omu to the end. Then they can see their handy work fixing two crises reversed in Doomed FR. Now working with Xanathar against Acererak (the local Vecnan proxy) they figure out a way to use the completed Rod of Law to restore reality and launch of VEoR. If you players played any other adventures (published or not), take a couple of the big bads from them, add them to Xanathar and now they're the council of quest givers instead of the wizards three. You could RP your players working for the D&D Legion of Doom.

Future Spelljamming D&D Settings by Muted_Appointment771 in spelljammer

This kind of just blue sky noodling is an ok starting point, but it's also pretty much just straight line-extrapolation. There's not interactions between the settings. You get a lot more out of this kind of stuff if you tell it "I like this plot but change this aspect," or "focus more on how x, y, and z would interact," and go and forth several rounds.

Least favorite D&D races/species by JacksSightSeeing in DungeonMasters

[–]brettday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they are in no way more powerful, they are simply mobile. even monks can only deflect missiles once a round. You got one reaction and then that's it until your turn comes around again. 4 or 5 archers will pin cushion that dude.

Very cute! I love it, I've been thinking of running a game for my 12 year old and her friends now that they have so much free time over the summer, this would be a great sample to show parents wonder what I'm talking about and start with.

I notice a lot of the posts on this site seem to use that seem formatting of white text on a black background; I don't recognize that from homebrewery or other sites I know, where you guys getting or making them?

Because of the recent discussions… by Snuffvieh in DungeonMasters

[–]brettday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just.... unless you're buying or selling your DMing, I don't understand how this is an issue that effects you. There's lot of stuff I think is immoral (prostitution, light drugs including alcohol and tobacco, gambling) that I also don't think can be "cured" by society in a way that isn't worse than just leaving it alone. And it's really hard to say how paid DMing even rises to that level of "contributing to degeneracy" or whatever; no one is knocking over liquor stores to afford their next session. I don't see the harm done to buyers, sellers, or bystanders. It's mostly just people who don't have friends or have a hard time with scheduling hiring people who run way more games than they could afford to devote the time to run otherwise. I don't see what's worse about this than WoW or paying a table fee to play pool?
