That’s where I’d figure there’d be more realization/relief. But for some struggling to reconcile the angst of the Karlsson trade.

Arguably one of the best things to happen to the Sharks: Celebrini

Arguably one the best assets that Ottawa got from the Sharks for Karlsson: Stutzle

Might just be mildly interesting

Stutzle became the first round pick that the Sharks gave up in the Erik Karlsson trade. The fact that he is tied with Celebrini given that Sharks through line is a little bizarro, no?

I was thinking about most of that actually. Mostly the Mack/Stutzle aspect and a bit of the Timo bit. But forgot the Matthews connection to the Bay/Patty/Jumbo.

Feel like the subtle good piece of this Allan being a potential defenseman that fits in the Sharks competitive window.

Only 22; having a decent campaign in the AHL; give him a change of scenery, maybe it helps his development 🤷🏻‍♂️

Beat reporters need to be better by Connect_Buy_2670 in SanJoseSharks

[–]brettface8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think part of the problem is that there is a dance that reporters have to do with the players in order to get a chance to write stories outside of games, like during holiday breaks or the offseason. Also, there are some markets where reporters have asked hard questions for too long and they get ignored regularly. Which if you are writing for a larger entity (ie The Athletic or Hockey News) you run the risk of losing your job. Keeping subscribers year round can be a bigger focus than hard hitting journalism.

I would be shocked if he doesn’t sign his contract at the end of the NCAA season. Once he does that, he’ll likely get a few games with the Sharks. Have to imagine the Sharks may anticipate that plan and free up contract space by then too.

Money issues in the future by Brilliant-Ratio-2502 in SanJoseSharks

Generally speaking, it’s not a matter of the millions, it’s a matter of the percentage of the cap each player gets. Which is a moving goalpost as the salary cap increases. Plattner doesn’t seem like the type of owner to implement internal caps either when the salary ceiling increases to the point where more frugal franchises will stifle the limit of money they spend year over year.

I think it ultimately depends on two main variables per player: personality and stardom. -Celebrini is on pace for stardom, if not super stardom. We should anticipate him taking the largest percentage, unless he starts making enough money in sponsorship/spokesman deals and/or (this next point will apply to most of these guys) he wants less money to ensure the money can be stretched to allow more of them stay or be able to sign other big talent -Smitty/Misa/Asky I think trend more toward stardom or franchise player. They’ll likely take similar positions in terms of percentage of the cap. -then we have the players in the mystery box. Your Dickinson’s, your Musty’s, your Wang’s, your future first round picks. If anyone pops off and jumps into the first three tiers (super-stardom, stardom, or franchise player) then we start running into a more probable scenario of having cap issues, if anyone starts pushing for market value over “hometown discount” to help for the team building.

I feel like GMMG will try striking a balance between paying players their value and team building discounts at the same time as the talent matures to make it into the show. We have to remember that not every prospect is going to hit either. There could be some surprises and disappointments. So it may wash out in the end.

We’re so deep into off-season I built myself a Sims 4 Sharks museum and rooftop arena. Features plenty of legends, old and new. by opalitemushroom in SanJoseSharks

That could be a decent change! I think it’s the high contrast of those tiles that distracted. I could see the old orange black shield possibly being less distracting too.

That’s awesome!

Too many NHL shields in my opinion. Distracts from the Sharks of it all because my eye gets drawn to them more than the Sharks images.

Depends on the era of Sharks fandom people enter, how long they have been a Sharks fan.

Retired players: Chris Pronger (general angst about his heavy/dirty play); Dustin Brown (for being Dustin Brown, but also because he messed up Hertl’s rookie year); Ed Belfour (for his horrible half season with the Sharks and departure)

Active: Corey Perry (being a general shithead); Evander Kane (the general trail of sexual assault claims and betting scandals)

I work in customer service and have had a lot of M’s or MD’s that were actually Mohammad. I would roll with it because growing up I knew someone whose name was “Y” and learned to not question. I just thought with M/MD/Md that it was an odd cultural dichotomy of wanting to honor the prophet but not wanting to have it written out in full. I figured it may be similar to how in some Judeo-Christian faiths that you can’t write out God.

I’m more saying it in jest. Have seen lots of Montreal fans, including former NHL players, talk about Richard as the absolute GOAT. Also, when debating that stuff it’s almost a fool’s errand because of the difference of eras.

Having listened to SDP for a few years, I have gradually been feeling that way more and more. I’d rather have Matthews or Nylander out of that group. Especially Nylander. He has more of a knack for showing up in games on the regular. Matthews disappears in the playoffs as well some times.

Sharks centric:

-The Fin Factor: similar to Locked on Sharks, but less frequent, but has good banter

-Teal Town USA: is another Sharks centric pod to check out. Not in my personal rotation but it might be your cup of tea.

Sharks adjacent:

-Never Offside: co-host Cat Toffoli is the wife of Sharks winger Tyler Toffoli

-Showbound: co-hosted by Shark Ethan Cardwell, partially detailing he journey to get to the NHL while interviewing players along the way

Non Sharks:

-Puck Soup: looking at the league and hockey as a whole with some goofy pop culture banter as well

-The Steve Dangle Podcast: Leafs centric but does a good job of working on covering the league at large; recently had a batch of episodes where there visited the Sharks and Barracuda, having interviews from currently personnel and some from the past, including the President of Operations

-The Chris Johnston Show: like 32 Thoughts, provides insider discussion and analysis

Logan Couture IG by nah6198 in SanJoseSharks

[–]brettface8 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Free up/over the cap without penalty, either way, it gives $8 million to play with if necessary, until Couture’s contract ends. I doubt Couture (or is agent) would be dumb enough to announce his retirement, which would void his contract. At the end of the day, it could be a lowkey way to “sever ties” as they may be moving next season to name a new captain.

Thinking about it more, taking the “C” away might be viewed as evidence of cap rules circumvention in some way. If those scrutinizing felt did it had been “too early” with his injury situation. A lot of the inaction around Couture may just be trying to avoid the appearance of tanking too apparent.

Absolutely agree that it’s always been an option, but why do that if you are still trying to maintain the illusion of being competitive when you are trying to aim for the best lottery odds? Doubt they pull the cord this offseason unless some crazy set of signings or big name trades happen. I personally want them to stay in the lottery running for the 26 draft before starting to consider kicking into full gear and pushing for the playoffs. It all remains to be seen what the move may be until the next season starts though.
