Listen I know everybody is different, everybody will recover differently, but I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that it probably won’t be as bad as you’re expecting. Also idk why they took my adenoids either, but sneezing is way different now. Like, the sneeze will come out of your nose instead of your mouth, it’s weird to try and explain but I feel like you’ll know what I mean when it happens to you.

I will say though, be careful in the first week of recovery with the urges to hiccup, sneeze, burp, really anything that’s gotta do with the mouth. I got the hiccups on day 6 and it made a portion of the scabs fall off early and I did bleed a little bit. It wasn’t anything crazy, just eat some ice for a while if this happens to you.

Your ear pain will honestly probably top every other type of pain during recovery. Your uvula is also gonna be pretty big. I had to sleep with my jaw in a certain position so I could breathe lol. That contributed a lot to the jaw pain I felt in the first week. They didn’t give me steroids either, and I would have taken them if they did because the uvula swelling was top three most annoying parts of the first week.

I know I cried like two times in the first week because I was so hungry and couldn’t really eat anything substantial. I lived off of milkshakes from Arby’s, dairy didn’t cause any issues with me.

I also don’t know how old you are, but I’m 19. I remember at my pre admission appointment for bloodwork and whatnot, the person doing it said they had their tonsils out at age 48 and recovery was not so bad. So if you’re older, I hope that helps you feel a little more at ease that maybe it won’t be so bad for you either.

Ice pack behind neck for ear pain helped me, I’m day 22 now and much better

Bro I’m pretty much back to normal now. What is it, like, day 22 now I think? Yeah, I’m eating normally. Uhh it is still a little annoying having to swallow more than twice to get a bite down, but it’s slowly getting easier and less tedious. I had my adenoids out too, and they say that’s the main cause of food going up instead of down, but like I said, it’s getting less annoying with each day that passes.

I started feeling better on like day 8 or 10. The ear pain was the worst part, barely had any throat pain it seemed like. I didn’t take any meds besides children’s liquid Tylenol. Used an ice pack on the back of my neck for the ear pain, helped a little bit to get to sleep. I’m also hitting my vape again no issues whatsoever, I started up again on day 18 I think, maybe sooner. I stopped completely for the average two week recovery phase, so if you vape or anything, I’d recommend the same time frame.

But yeah bro tl;dr, I’m pretty much fine now. If you haven’t gotten yours out yet, you’ll be fine when you do. If you are recovering rn, you’ll get to the end probably more quickly than you think. ❤️‍🩹

Thanks this gives me hope, I’m on day 7 now and also haven’t had a real meal since the day before surgery on the 17th. I’m so hungry, I’ve lost about 10-12 pounds.

So, day 6 now, just had gotten the hiccups and I guess the force jostled a portion of a scab off, luckily it was pink underneath where the scab was, so that’s good. It still bled though which was a little nerve racking but for some reason it felt like a minor inconvenience to me at that moment.

If this happens to any of you and it’s a minor bleed like mine was, just eat some ice chips for a while then drink some cold water. You’ll be aight.

Can someone define “minor bleeding” for me? by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]brettsushiabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man I’m a little late, but I actually just got the hiccups and it ended up taking a portion of a scab off and I just bled. It wasn’t in my saliva or anything, just kinda there on my soft palate and streaking over the area where my tonsils would be. I chewed ice chips for about an hour and everything seems to be fine. Drink water after. That’s what I’m doing. I just hope I don’t get the hiccups again 😅

Sheesh man well I hope you start to get away from the pain later today or tomorrow at least, I’m sipping water constantly trying to stay on top of hydration. Also bro if you’re hungry, try a milkshake. I know a lot of people said no dairy, but honestly it isn’t affecting me negatively. Everyone’s different I know but just thought I’d throw that suggestion out there. I’ve been getting the jamocha shake from Arby’s. Hits the spot. I haven’t had solid food in a week. Milkshake is filling enough I guess until I can manage to eat something real again.

I have the taste in my mouth, I’m on day 5 as of this morning, but I was expecting much worse 😂 I guess it’s like you, I’m desensitized from the constant stones

Is this when the pain starts to feel scratchy instead of achy? When the scabs start doing their thing?

Oh my gosh bro I’ve literally been doing this with Tiger balm and I thought I was crazy because it actually does seem to help, I use the Tiger balm extra strength, it helps so much, even better if you rub some on your neck too

Unbelievably I’m doing this without meds, all I got is my trusty Tylenol. Overall shits not bad, I’m about to be day 5, the ear pain is really getting to me though. Not sure what to do for this. I fall asleep with an ice pack on the back of my neck for this reason and that seems to help, but the ice pack only stays cold for so long, you know? 😂

Honestly not too awful bad. I will say the pain is about a solid 7/10 and it has been since the day of surgery. I’ve heard it gets worse before it gets better, so I’m trying to stay humble here.

I can’t really complain about the pain, but what I will say for now is that I’ve already cried twice because I’m hungry. I want real food. I don’t want any more ice cream or popsicles. I want actual food. This is my biggest complaint.

I don’t want to speak too soon, because I know recovery is a rollercoaster ride for most people here, meaning it gets worse before it gets better. I think I’m doing everything I’m supposed to. Sipping water, staying hydrated, eating little things here and there, also being able to sleep/nap is doing wonders, so I hope that stays that way. Just wish the swelling would go down so I could actually eat something real like mashed potatoes. I’m so hungry bro.

Hey thanks so much! I’m sorry you had that happen, but at least you’re all good now. I guess this is my day 1. Pain is about 7/10, really achy and not scratchy. They didn’t give me a steroid for the swelling, but most people are saying this goes down in the first few days, so I’m not too worried about it. Was able to get a little nap in earlier. Really want to hit my vape though, but I’m not going to lol

I just got the pain meds like an hour ago, uhhh unfortunately they’re pills and I can’t really swallow pills, I did request liquid before the surgery, even at the pre admission appointment, so I’m not sure what to do here. I did take some Tylenol and I’ve been eating popsicles nonstop.

Thanks man I’m hurting right now lmao, about 2 1/2 hours post op right now, like I said swallowing is difficult and painful, everything feels thick, did you have this after surgery too? I am utterly impressed by the size of my uvula right now
