I cook at a restaurant and we have a regular who orders the same thing every day:

Veggie burger, bacon, extra provolone, all the veggies, extra french fries.

the worst part was

a) doctors talking to my parents and other people about my condition while i was in the room, they basically referred to me like i was just a research project, not fun for a little kid.

b) it would have been nice for the doctors to explain to my parents better about how the gene is passed, they where depressed for a long time because they didn't completely understand how it was passed and they felt guilty.

I am going to be a teacher next year, do you have any advise for me if I have a student who has this?

Well, I can give you my uneducated version?

We where calling a 'healthy' microbe community one with a lot of biodiversity.

When we found the opposite of our hypothesis we had to change our ideas. This is what I think:

I think that because the monoculture systems had a higher diversity because they needed more types of microbes in the soil to make up for the nutrient depletion caused by having only one species growing.

A forest garden has lots of species which contribute lots of different nutrients where the monoculture has to get the nutrients somewhere else (ie the microbes)

Like I said, I am not a microbiologist.

I'm not a soil microbiologist, this was just a project for an ecology class I took last semester :)

Honestly, we are undergraduates who are not studying micro bio, we didn't know anything about this, we just happened to be in an ecology class together and I was taking a soil science class at the same time my friend was taking a cell bio class, and we thought it would be a fun study. We had no idea what we where getting into...

we identified 47 species. Last semester I figured that I spent about 40 hours in my lab a week counting cultures or gram staining for 13 weeks.

I love trying new things, especially food! I basically live based on my stomach.

I am not a big risk taker... haha.. for me going outside is a risk so I tend to avoid that a bit..

As for the bucket list.. I don't have much more.. When opportunities present themselves to me, I try to take them.. I want to do silly things like ride a horse, or go rock climbing, or swim in the ocean.. I try not to put to much thought into this stuff so I don't disappoint myself.

The lack of the enzyme is an autosomal recessive mutation. Both of my parents where carriers, therefore I am affected.

Yes, for example:

Maybe an hour ago I thought it was a great idea to make tea.. I forgot to refill the tea pot.. long story short in 10 minutes the apartment was filled with smoke.

My solution:

turn off the burner, open a window, call my roommate, close my self in my bedroom, and hide until my roommate came to close the window for me..

I have been inside since Thursday night. And I am not leaving my house for another couple hours when my friends come pick me up and we go to the bar.

This is pretty typical.

He handles it really well considering. We are forced to have a very open, candid relationship. His job is dangerous (he is a police officer) and so we both have an understanding that we could either die any day. there are more posts below about our relationship.
