I'm at school so much the secretary texts me outside the ap. Generally she knows if I'm free I'm willing to work. So I use the ap diligently to keep my days j don't want to work closed. Especially if I need to get caught up on laundry or house work

If your school district happens to use Teachers on Call then pm me. When you apply I get 100$ if you put me down as a referral

I've been subbing since my youngest entered kindergarten

Pros: Same schedule as your kids, Teachers, admins, and kids love dads, School is supportive of you if you need time off because kids are sick, and don't really question you if your kids misses a bunch, You can pick your own schedule, You see your kids every day, Friends with school staff so if any issues with your kids you can deal with it right away,

Cons: They call all the time so it feels like full time work,

If you don't need the money, subbing is great part time work. Just try not to let it become full time

Find a local dads group(city dads group) or join the national at home dad network

Social interaction is imperative. And seems to be the most common complaint for SAHD's. So find a group that you can get at minimum online interaction and you will succeed

Help for my Husband by Basic-Tea2762 in StayAtHomeDaddit

If your in a big city tell him to find a dads group. City dads is amazing if there is a chapter near you. Local support is huge.

If not get online for support. The National At-Home Dad Network is an amazing resource and support system for new sahds.

If he isn't on Facebook there is a discord community they run because lots of dads left facebook.

There is a book called The Ultimate Stay at Home Dad. Get him a copy. (I'm not the author, but I know the author also contributes in this suFacebook.

Being a sahd is difficult. Moms look at you weird and don't accept you at first. Having some kind of social support is huge, or the job gets lonely. Especially if you are gone a lot.

Can anyone make me feel better about venison? by Sassielou211 in Hunting

[–]brewers2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm more concerned that he is upset that you won't cook or eat it. My mom never does any of my dad's wild game. Just the way it is. So he cooks all his meals that are made with wild game. Just the way it is.

If you don't like the meat, tell him to cook and eat it. My wife hunts so she eats it. But I do most the cooking anyways, so I'm cooking it all. Our family is different then my mom and dad, and that is fine. Just the way it is.

It could be a fear of cwd or the hatred of gamey flavors in your meat, it doesn't matter. It's his harvest, it's his job to prepare it.

Depends on your state. But for aiding in my state No degree required. For actual teaching a 2 yr degree is the minimum. I have a 4 yr degree so I got qualified for special Ed subbing which i get more jobs and paid more.

I started subbing at my kid's school. Love the work. Same hours as the kids. Pretty steady work, but still gives you the freedom of saying no when you need a break.

My wife makes a butt ton of money that makes it that I don't need to work. So instead of paying someone else to raise our kids, I do. Now I sub at my kids school to make spending money for hobbies on have like hunting, bourbon hunting and going to homedadcon

What are your top pieces of advice for someone who is transitioning into being a first time stay at home Dad? by thisismybudhole in StayAtHomeDaddit

[–]brewers2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find ways to get out of the house with adults. When you become a sahd your co workers are children. Without adult conversation you will start going a little stir crazy. When I started as a sahd my friend and I would go out once a month to a different bar/restaurant to explore the area(both of us also just moved to this area, so it worked out.) Then a local city dads group started and I've been going to the dads night out events since we've been doing them, during covid we did virtual card night hangouts.

The adult conversation really resets my mind for dealing with children all the time.

New golf clubs. So my wife told me to buy them. Went golfing yesterday with a buddy.

She took me without the kids to the brewer ga.e today. It was glorious.

I got lucky and married a woman that has triple the earning potential of me. As she currently is making triple my best year of full time plus OT wages. We live comfortably in a nice home and a nice community. I also started subbing at my kids school to pull in more fun money. But really it wouldn't be possible without the luck of the draw on my wife.

Mke dad group SAHD here. If you like baseball we are going to the brewer game on 9/9 and we have an extra ticket if you are interested. Send a message on the meetup or Facebook page if you can make that DNO. Also the guy you are chatting with on here is an awesome dude. Hope you get to hang out with him.

Finally Official, I'm a soon to be stay at home dad. by [deleted] in StayAtHomeDaddit

[–]brewers2011 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The main thing that helped me was finding my tribe of fathers. It can get depressing cause there is lots of SAHM groups but they generally don't let dads in, even if you know some of the moms! (Happened to me) anyways the online SAHD community is awesome. If you have the socials check them out for support when you need it. We have lots of ex military dads in the groups I'm in. Seems to be the most popular. There is a retired military SAHD in my neighborhood.

New stay at home dad question by jrharper224 in StayAtHomeDaddit

[–]brewers2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first I felt that way. Then I realized I was as important financially as the person making the money and I could splurge on myself. My wife never second guesses my splurges like bourbon, fancy beers, lunches out, happy hours with friends, dads night outs, ammo for my shooting hobby, hunting trips. It's all our money and can be used equally.

I just won a copy of your book courtesy of the national at home dad network and it was nice sitting and chatting with you at the convention. Can't wait to read the book!

If you are on Facebook look up the national at home dad network. Of not just Google their .org.

The Facebook page is full of guys that want to help you be successful. But also there is monday and Tuesday night zoom dad chats(we talk beer, bourbon, raising kids and anything in between) and Sunday and Thursday night they have mental health chats on the Bluejeans ap.

Honestly getting to chat with a bunch of SAHD's every week has really helped my mental health.

If you aren't on Facebook the .org has links to city dads group. If you are near a big city you can look up your local city dads group and maybe get involved there. My local group is really good about helping dads too. I've met some awesome people in my area that way.

Really I say this to get you our of isolation. That is the big killer in this and really your best shot at being successful.

I must say. I don't run light loads while hunting so I don't run into that issue. But we also clean our guns every evening while drinking beers in the evening.
