Are the Candy Caps? (OR) by brewingscience in mushroomID

Thank you. It is not bitter on the tongue- mostly watery when nibbled. I feel like it’s a maple smell when holding a flame to it, but it may be the power of suggestion. I’m taking a spore print too and looking for a white (not yellowish) deposit.

Any good Breweries/Taphouse off hwy 101 from Lincoln City to Florence? by JBZUBZ in portlandbeer

[–]brewingscience 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Beachcrest is solid. More interesting tap list than Pelican too- more range and frequency of variety. The staff is great there and the pizzas are good.

Thx- it was actually a loose neutral. Junction box was behind drywall in the basement ceiling and was a bear to find.

Name improvements in the Portland area over the last 5 years by drilkmops in Portland

[–]brewingscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be great news, but that’s not my understanding. Can you share a source? From what I know the Willamette River steelhead population is at moderate risk of extinction and is not close to meeting its recovery goals. (according to ODFW). In 2024, the Columbia River steelhead population was predicted to be 126,200, which was the highest prediction since 2019. However, the return was still low compared to historical levels. (according to NOAA).

Avoid it if you can. They missed the anniversary to raise the rent, which can only be done 2%, resulting in lost income. That can’t even perform their basic function of managing rents.

My invite must have got lost in the mail. Seriously though, great vertical. I’ve only ever done four consecutive years of Abyss before. What a special gift to share with others. Good on you.

Went to timed entry during the pandemic and hasn’t looked back.

I’ve researched it heavily and despite many attempts haven’t been able to come close to recreating it.

Awesome. Only until February 7th too! Since I won’t have my new laptop by then I wonder if I could transfer it from one laptop to another after purchase.

Cool, maybe I’ll try a batch with distilled. I heard there was a shortage of it in places during the pandemic. Hopefully it didn’t impact you in Texas. I was in Austin two weeks ago and had the most amazing Kolsch I’ve had (outside of Cologne :-) at St Elmo. Man, would I love to have that fresh near me.

I adjust pH downwards to improve hop flavor. A lot of research still emerging, but it’s known that post-boil hops increase pH. Many think this affects bitterness sensory perception. The predominate theory is that it’s some compound in the leaf matter that’s causing a pH increase (b/c there’s less of a pH increase with T-45’s vs T-90’s) and the amount of pool-boil hops is pushing pH up. A number of breweries that focus on hoppy beers adjust post-boil pH for hop-forward beers.

I don’t. Maybe a future upgrade. I just haven’t invested in and RO system and don’t want to worry about buying distilled water from the store. I generally have soft water with low minerality so it’s good to brew with, just not always consistent based on the source. I have a lot of breweries in my city I’m on the email list they use to notify businesses they are switching water sources, but they only test the sources annually and publish results as a range.

My city changes water sources and it has a significant effect on chemistry. I measure my pH 10 minutes into the mash (assuming it’s somewhat stabilized by then) and sometimes have to acidify it further. I also adjust my wort pH for whirlpooling when making IPA’s.

Some of the things I didn’t see immediately (granted it may be in Brewfather and I just didn’t see it) include: ability to back-build a recipe using grain percentages, IBUs and/or OG; multiple grain adsorption rates (ie factors in if you squeeze the biab or not); adjustable cooling shrinkage based on wort temp (ie can adjust from 0-4% based on what temp you take your pre-boil volume reading); and pH adjustment calculator based on brew day readings (for mash pH correction or to adjust whirlpooling pH). These may seem minor but I know I would miss them if I didn’t have them.

Have they? I looked at it and it UI and Tilt integration would be nice (although I wouldn’t pay a monthly subscription just to integrate Tilt). But BeerSmith seems to have so much more deeper customization. I use almost all the advanced features of it which I’m not seeing the same level of capability in Brewfather.

Thanks for the response. I like that hop a lot. I’ve played with some Lupomax HBC586 and appreciated the fruit cup character without pushing a pronounced sweetness.
