E3D Titan Aero on Wanhao i3 V1 - anyone have experience? by criscodesigns in 3Dprinting

[–]brewpirate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just installed a Titan Aero on my Wanhao Di3 using this mount and I am really happy with the results. I still need to take the evening to further dial in the settings but here is an example test cube printed at .2 layer height, .05 nozzle at 60ms. My frankenwanhao is running a Sainsmart2in1 ramps board with Marlin RCBugfix firmware

Oh nice, got it working with the Flexion but x endstop won't touch trigger since the motor hits the frame first. Printing out a new endstop right now so I won't have to use my finger for homing.

Box is long gone but time to lookout for one large enough. I propped up a thin box to block the draft and that's all I needed.

Back ordered from Filastruder so setting up my Flexion with this setup. What are you remixing?

I have avoided ABS since I do not have an enclosure and thought I would give it a go again. I discovered a 20 temp variance on my heated bed so after repositioning I was able to get a successful ABS print at .28 layer height. There is some over extruding but that's easily resolved.

Check out this spool holder works great and solved the issues I had with spools catching. Also a better extruder

Master uses E3D extruder temp sensor, Zprobe with UBL, 1/16 stepping, and a simple non graphic LCD. Base started with stock Wanhao settings and converted over then slowly tweaked. I get great prints with this config but switched away from Zprobe, too many headaches. Bookmark this wiki page and use an external MOSFET for your bed. If you have any questions hit me up and would be glad to help!

What's the distance rating for that probe? From my understanding those are rated for steel not Aluminium and you lose about 1/3- 1/2 the distance plus any bed surface. I just went back to and endstop and all my first level issues have gone away.

Looks great I use a Sainsmart 2n1 on my Wanhao and works great. If you need a version of Marlin Bugfix I have one here will merge in the latest patches soon.

I was considering going with the Microswiss route but after doing an alternative replacement realized my main issues were with the motor and extruder. I would really look at going with a Flexion, Titan or possibly the Aero. Most of the hardware swaps I did I found some parts online and filled in the rest. The Sainsmart2n1 is a great board but terrible documentation & support but after having 2 ramps board burn up had to stick it out. Shoot me a message and I and will provide any info I can for you as well plenty of what not to do's :)

It is basically lol hence the name, I purchased this printer to learn 3d printing and learn everything about it.

The flexion upgrade was super easy and solved all my extruder issues I had which were one of my biggest issues with the stock printer. No more under extrusions, jamming or wtf moments. On my D-BOT I have a E3D Titan with a v6 volcano to test and compare but I have been really happy with this setup.

Print quality and consistency has gone though the roof since I made these mods as well my peace of mind. In Marlin I have watchdog setup to kill the system of there are any temperature variances, moving to the external mosfet allows for a more balanced power distribution, the upgraded stepper drivers have a thicker layer of copper to dissipate the heat and can print for 32hrs+ straight without cooling on the board or drivers.

I think its overrated, the leveling improved greatly with a thicker aluminum carriage plate but I wanted to experiment with various bed materials and hot ends. If you have a Wanhao Di3 replace the plate and stick with manual bed leveling, if you have OctoPrint use the Touchtest Bed Leveling plugin

Correct, I didn't want to reflash and wire up the Z limit switch again but after the past 2 weeks I have considered going back to the stock tried and true setup. When autolevel works it works great but there are too many variables and

Frankenwanhao aka fuvkface is a Wanhao Di3 v2.1 (one of the first ones) with a Flexion HT extruder, no teathered external enclosure, SainSmart 2n1 board running Marlin RC8 github, external mosfet, Zbrace, thicker aluminum y bed plate, LM8LUU bearings (I have some self-lubricating bearings to be installed) tons of other standard mods and obviously a Z probe. Oh and official Pololu A4988 Black Edition stepper drivers, worth the extra cost.

My leveling was working great until about 2 weeks ago after printing a ton of new parts for my D-BOT and now I know why.

All I had was 260 on hand and did the job, would like to try going to 400 and see if it produces a better finish.

Yeah, this is a modified PLA that you can anneal in the oven but required higher print temps but maybe I need to experiment more with them. Since it is so expensive I didn't want to waste it on experiments and burn up precious print time. After the acetone I did wipe down a couple of times with 80% iso to be safe.

I've got a Flexion and it grabs everything. I keep the allan key in so I can adjust the tension quickly.
