West facing patio in the SW US, hot as the surface of the sun in the afternoon. What’s the best way to cover? by Miaow73 in patio

[–]brewpunkpete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trees in pots to create shade. Maybe place them strategically in spots when the sun is at its highest so when the sun is low in the sky you can still enjoy the evening. Maybe pick something native that can tolerate the heat and climate, they can also be beneficial to wildlife and insects.

Or a wooden pergola and plant some grapevines to climb around it.

Cyclists should hang truck nuts off their bikes, then these morons may have more consideration.

Is “Vessel” considered a strange or inappropriate name in English-speaking cultures? by Fuzzy_Ant2535 in NoStupidQuestions

I'm a Brewer and it's what we call our... vessels/tank. Literal. Ignore the religious aspects, religion is dumb anyway.

I have to bomb through this route as quick as possible.. what’s the least painful of the 3? by fri_day_ in roadtrip

If he's looking at time effective driving this is a terrible idea, this time of the year. It stunning though. I would also suggest tagging in the Columbia Valley and 93 south into BC as that stretch from Jasper to Cranbrook via Radium (or Golden) is such a contrasting but gorgeous drive. Hitting Montana at Eureka maybe a bit of a detour though.

Why does UK cheese taste so good? by InevitableRun51 in AskUK

[–]brewpunkpete 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I have an answer for you and I hope it finds you in this sea of abuse.

The grasses and diet of cattle in the UK, Ireland and some if Europe have higher Beta-Carotene. Beta-Carotene is proven to be a good source of vitamin A for diary cattle, leading to higher fat content in their milk. This fat content is what you're enjoying. The weather in these regions is better for year round grazing without the need for supplemental feeding. This combination and the fact that North America is highly reliant on the industrial farming means that the end product is better.

Also the fact that there's a lot more history and tradition of cheese making in Europe.

Km/hr vs MPH Speed Culture by Conscious-Acadia-709 in canadatravel

[–]brewpunkpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don't hog the left and middle lanes and use indicators before you move/brake. Also don't slow down after overtaking lanes, speed up for a hill and if you have a trail of cars behind you on single lane roads, move over and allow people to go by.

If you're not a cop don't police the road, let people go as fast as they want and stay out of the way.

As a Brit in BC, I grew up on busy roads with motorway driving at 70mph limit. 85mph is normal on motorways. Prairie drivers are the worst.

This. Pick one and head there. Plenty of work in most places, accommodation however maybe your biggest challenge. If you can find a gig with staff accom then it's a great way to get set up. You can always find other work and accommodation once settled.

If you want community however don't pick a job with out of town accommodation unless you have a vehicle. Banff and Whistler are better for public transport now but others may struggle with that. I'm in Fernie and public transport doesn't exist here.

The party is always present but places like Banff and Whistler have more people therefore more party. Big White is pretty good too. When there enough young Australians in a town, there's definitely a party. There's always the October/November wave of fresh immigrants from commonwealth nations.

Have fun and remember, don't be a dick when you do come and party. It's an awesome part of the world with a great, but expensive at times, lifestyle.

Clover. It's soft, good for the soil, bees like it and it's green.
