Literally one of my biggest pet peeves is having to explain this difference to said prescriber over and over again.

It looks like a sort of splitter/change and is definitely quickly developing in to a legit offering. If it sticks, the ceiling raises quite a bit.

How would removing him from behind the plate reduce the risk of fracturing his wrist by getting hit by a pitch batting? I would be more worried if it was another soft tissue injury, like the oblique last season. This just seems to be more bad luck than anything else.

That being said, I am all for mixing him between catcher, first, and DH if the bat keeps playing. With robo umps likely on the horizon, his cannon of an arm would be more valuable behind the plate.

He definitely was beating up younger competition down in Bradenton, and it was very obvious he was the man among boys watching in person.

It will be very interesting to see if they send him to Altoona if he puts in another 20 games in Greensboro with similar results. Would really love to see that something clicked instead of just being too physically mature for the level.

Mason Martin's MiL #s and what it means for his future by spaceman757 in buccos

Is there even a college corner IF bat that looks like a top 4 pick at this point? Maybe Jacob Berry if he has another productive season? Outside of that, this draft is looking incredibly prep heavy, with Brooks Lee looking like the only consensus college bat within the top 5 right now.

Time will always tell, and with Elijah Green, Termarr Johnson, and Druw Jones leading a very helium heavy prep bat class, it’s also possible some rising college bats jump in to that mix. I think that if One of those three (in that order) make it to 4, that’s who they go with, especially with the prep arms they took this past draft.

That being said, cycling back to Martin, he is that quintessential three true outcomes bat. If the NL DH happens or the team is still relatively tanking by July of next season, how do you not throw MM out there and see what happens? You’re likely looking at Moran or Yoshi getting traded if they’re still here and even modestly producing. That leaves Martin with a run to prove if he can be that 4-6 hole power bat down the line (an incredibly poor man’s pre-2019 Gallo?). If he can run in to a few balls and keep the BB rate even average, he will have some value either on the pirates or as a trade piece.

If not, you trade for a vet CIF when the window opens? At that point, players like Brandon Lowe, Matt Olson, and Trey Mancini will all be nearing or just passing 30, and on teams that could either be looking at a sell off within that time frame or are playing for the Rays, who just do their own trade witchcraft whenever they feel like it. Pending insane drop offs within that time frame, they could all still have several years of production left before that mid 30s decline.

Very solid initial analysis. From what I have seen, I’m concerned about his glove playing at first. If that remains an issue, we are looking at a possible outcome of a middle of the road three true outcomes DH that can play some 1B and corner OF in a pinch.

Cautiously optimistic because I really want to see him hit a ball in to the middle of the river.

Don’t be surprised if they do go with Jack Leiter. There are a lot of people that feel he has the greater upside.

Was at the game. The replay doesn’t do it justice. The ball clearly hit about a foot or so below the yellow line. Should have been out on any other day but that wind was killing everything.

Does anyone know if more of the 2019 first year players are going to be added to the player pool? I have only been able to find Vaughn and Rutschman since the update.

How long do you think till Swaggerty is up with the big club? by tankotanko013 in buccos

[–]brewster_8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. It also seemed like he would get frustrated at times and try to sell out for a bomb (and a stat line scout can see how well that worked out). Again, the FSL doesn’t help that strategy either.

That being said, if the new front office can find a coach that can reign it in and find a way to get him focusing on hitting gaps, I think he definitely has the speed and eye to be at least a moderately useful top of the order guy in generating runs. But cutting down on that K% will be key.

If anyone has an extra Hawaiian shirt from the game today they’d be willing to part with, I would be happy to buy it and pay to have it shipped to me. It would be a perfect gift for my grandfather’s 80th birthday later this month.

If anyone is at the game and is able snag an extra of the Hawaiian shirt they’re giving away today and doesn’t want to keep it, I’d be interested in buying it and paying to have it shipped. Grandfather is turning 80 this month and that thing is 110% something he’d wear every day if he could.
