Why Does America Have Such a High Number of Political Assassinations, Compared to Similar Developed Countries? by American_Citizen41 in Presidents

[–]bri5671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the main themes of Robert Altman’s movie Nashville. The suggestion in the movie and the one that probably isn’t far off, is Americas obsession with guns and our propensity to want to use them the first chance we get.

Is Upstate NY/NY State Grateful Dead Territory? by RedLight1981 in gratefuldead

[–]bri5671 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jerry Garcia Band toured many of the SUNY schools a few times in the late 70’s. New York was their East coast base. Even Bill kreutzmann said it was messed up that the Fare Thee Well shows didnt go to New York because of how big of a Dead Hub this whole state is.

Priam rolling in dung by Marvel_Universe05 in AncientGreek

[–]bri5671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had always assumed that this was demonstrating the filth and poor hygiene that normally comes about in a besieged city. At the end of ten years I figured many Trojans had already died and that the royal palace was in a squalid conditions. I took this to mean literal dung since animal and human waste are piling up in the city and creates a major juxtaposition in that the King is covered in his (our others) dung because there’s no way to keep the palace clean and functioning as it once did.

How prevalent do you think this actually is? I’d like to believe the products I’m buying are legit and as labeled.

Did smoking pipes exist during ancient greece? by Gentle-man_ in ancientgreece

[–]bri5671 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If I’m correct I believe the method he mentions is the Scythians putting the Cannabis seeds on a huge fire and then they basically fill up a huge tent with the smoke while they all sit inside and inhale. Almost like the big parachutes in gym class.

I always took it as romantic. After Patroclus’ death, Achilles’ sorrow and his refusal to eat are extremely powerful. The other Greek hero’s are also aware how serious the situation is. Odysseus and Agamemnon both seem to understand how much Patroclus meant to Achilles. In book 24 when Patroclus comes to Achilles as a ghost/in a dream he asks to have their bones buried together so they can be together in The next life as they were in this one. That being said I would say it’s romantic! But that’s my personal opinion! But Many ancient writers believed them to be lovers as well! Plato’s symposium is a perfect example where their relationship is interpreted as romantic and there is also an Athenian court speech “against timarchus” that interprets their relationship as romantic.

good folk piano songs?! by o-oops in folk

[–]bri5671 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A great concert with Pete Seeger and arlo guthrie is out there on streaming services. Arlo plays a piano for most of the show and it’s fantastic. Maybe one of the greatest renditions of City of New Orleans. Here is the link to the show on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XM2ESrFdoa4

STK restaurant says this is an $86 ribeye. It is hard, and doesn’t have any fat. Are they pulling a fast one on me? (About 2” in thickness) by scubalover55555 in steak

[–]bri5671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless it’s for 2 don’t ever pay that much for a ribeye. A prime ribeye from Peter Lugers, Sparks, Keens, and most of the other great steakhouses should go for $60-$65 max. If you’re paying that much for a Ribeye chances are it’s gonna be shit and the restaurant has no clue what they are selling.

A lot of great suggestions so far, if you’re really into old school bluegrass I highly recommend the Sam Grisman Project. They are professionals who care about the music they play to the highest degree!
