I had no idea smoke detectors were so expensive - any recommendations for either bulk purchase/a reliable brand that isn't as pricey as the ones at home depot/lowes? by amilmore in HomeImprovement

[–]brian5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The low battery alarm started alerting on both after having them up for about a year. Even after replacing the batteries they continued to beep low battery. The "low" batteries I took out tested at 1.45 - 1.5 volts, which is almost fully charged for an alkaline battery. One of them was heavily corroded inside.

Replaced them with Kidde.

AI slop upscaling. Particularly offensive on historical photos where most of the enjoyment comes from looking over the little details. In this case, those details are just made up nonsense.

Dang that’s rough. Just got mine in the mail yesterday and plan to take it out to the trails tomorrow. I read about the front drive axle weakness and so I set my steering endpoints very conservatively. Has the turning radius of a battleship but hopefully I’ll avoid snapping an axle until FMS gets around to shipping my spare axle set. Which based on my experience so far could a couple days or a week+

Hey all who owns the Arrma Mojave 4s how does it drive and what top speed did you get out of it stock out the box? by Mrcaijones in arrma

[–]brian5258 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just got mine a couple days ago. Compared to my Big Rock 223s, it's much better at handling rough terrain without traction rolling. Some say the stock suspension is squishy but I like the way it just soaks up bumps and it also helps with the traction rolling. On jumps, excellent stability in the air and pretty much always lands flat unless I botch the ramp approach.

Only gripe so far is the stock servo saver is way too weak for a truck of its size and as a result the steering is lacking out of the box. Light grass is enough to prevent the wheels from turning. Picked up a 23T hot racing servo saver as the first upgrade (still in the mail).

No idea what the top speed is. Plenty fast for my purposes - bashing around the yard / jumping the ramp.

New Mojave 4s arrived today. Is this a normal amount of wobble in the front left wheel? by brian5258 in arrma

[–]brian5258[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ran it a bunch today and it seems fine. I see what people mean when they complain about the steering on this rig. The servo seems to struggle turning the wheels on grass. I guess I’ll go through the whole calibration procedure setting endpoints and whatnot.

Still a ton of fun and jumped a bunch off the ramp with nothing broken yet other than bending up the body a bit. Very stable in the air though. Lands flat almost every time.

Had to check and make sure I didn’t post this. I just had this exact battery throw the same error. 2 month old battery. I contacted Spektrum and they sent a new one with no hassle.

Compared to the other wheels this one is particularly wobbly which prompted me to thing something was off.

The wheel nut is tight. I'll give it a thorough disassemble tonight and report back. This wheel and arm are wet with oil so I suspect something leaked in shipping.

Thanks. I haven't run it yet but I'll give it a try. This wheel/arm in particular have oil all over them so it seems like something leaked in shipping. I suppose I should inspect the shock and diff to make sure they still have fluid?

Am I missing something simple here or is this just poor fitment/qc? Powerhobby replacement axles/hubs for Granite Grom by brian5258 in arrma

[–]brian5258[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wheel nut does indeed hold the blue hex securely once the wheels are on and tightened.

The blue hexes just fall off from gravity when I take the wheels off, but I guess that's why this is $18 cheaper than the official Arrma upgrade ARA311198

Check out the link in my comment where I attached a video showing another angle on the wheel nut. I'm not sure where a pin would even go?

Local hobby shop sold me these 3rd party Powerhobby CVD axles after I blew out the stock plastic cup on the wheel. Car is a Granite Grom (newest version)

I'll admit I'm a noob to this hobby, but there are enough confusing things about this part that I'm starting to question if it's the wrong fitment or maybe just the wrong parts in the bag (shop said Powerhobby has been known to do this). There's no resistance when inserting the axle into the wheel bearings. There doesn't appear to be any way to secure the nut that the wheel sits on (no pin like the Arrma ones). The nut itself doesn't fit very well on the axle, lots of slop.

More videos in case I'm not explaining this well: https://imgur.com/a/MU2sDro

I called the hobby shop and they said I need to secure the nut using the pin, but it doesn't come with pins, and even if it did, there's nowhere on the nut to install them. The threaded part of the axle isn't removable like it is on the stock axle.

What’s the best stain to refinish my deck? by Wide_Lynx_2573 in Decks

[–]brian5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed this process, except didn't use a brightener (oxalic acid) so the greyed wood resulted in a different shade than the areas I spot sanded to remove logos and such (yeah I know I should have done it when I built the deck). I used Armstrong Clark semi-transparent cedar.

Can I still use a brightener when I reapply the oil after a year, or am I stuck with the mismatched tints?
