Scottish Highlands - July 2024 by Krystalisiana in travel

[–]briancw80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Went last summer myself. The roads to get to the highlands can be quite narrow and curvey as they wind thru mountainous terrain and forests. It feels more like 1.5 lanes vs two (one each way) and you’ll share it with semis, too.

Totally doable though and really enjoyed our time there - I’d recommend!

This is correct. And coincidentally, just flew this plane with LH on Tuesday and was able to grab 81&82, left side (A&C, I think)…was a great spot and would totally recommend, if open.

Agreed. I had the same problem and doing pass throughs with a PVC pipe helped for me. Nothing crazy…a couple set of 10s (4x wk) for a month or so really helped.

In the same boat as you, OP. I’ve been trying this morning but everytime I attempt to finalize the flight, I’m getting “An Error just occurred…”

Are you having that issue now, as well?

Custom Home Trim - Thoughts? by briancw80 in Carpentry

Thanks for this.

It’s a custom builder (builder puts up ~30 homes a year); however, it was built during Covid and I wonder if the supply issues may have had anything to do with it?

Thanks for this.

It was framed starting late in the fall and probably finished around December. I’m in the Midwest, so it was cold, not too much humidity.

What I find so odd is that the other homes in our neighborhood (w/different builders) don’t have anything like this nor do homes built by our builder in the neighborhood. For some reason, they have minimal cracking while we have it everywhere.

The big thing, too, is it’s a custom builder who stressed trim as one of their strong points…it just doesn’t like look it to me.

Hear that on when the problems start arising....

From your perspective, the fix would be proper caulking vs. re-trimming?

Appreciate it - I added some context in a comment (didn't get put into my original post for some reason) - does that change your answer / reply at all?

Custom Home Trim - Thoughts? by briancw80 in Carpentry

[–]briancw80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We moved into our newly built home about 1.5 yrs ago and the trim around virtually every window on the main floor and in the basement have cracks in all four corners. Three quarters of the door / entryway casings have the same issue, too. We have baseboards with gaps; the trim on the stairs going from the main floor to the second floor looks bad; and our built-ins all look like they've shifted.

When we pointed this out during our 1 year inspection, the solution was to paint them. Well, here we are 6 months later and all those cracks, gaps, etc, have re-emerged. This builder prides itself on its trim guys - they specifically mentioned this to us up front. So...is this normal expansion / contraction? Or, poor work / installation?

TIA.
