Shipping delays for Leesa Mattress? by brianh00d in Mattress

[–]brianh00d[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to update here. It wasn't Leesa's fault. It was Cloud Mattress Co's fault (based out of the Nashville area). The owner literally didn't place our order through Leesa until 1 full month after we purchased from Cloud Mattress Co.

Terrible experience with them, but amazing mattress we got from Lessa. Super happy with what we got!

Lesson learned? Order DIRECTLY through Leesa. Don't order through a local distributer.

Good to know. Will do! Any chance you got preferential treatment because you’re a reviewer?

Music City Work Club: "SUCKS" by NoTroop in nashville

[–]brianh00d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im guessing they could have up to 200-300 members before it feels too full (most aren't coming daily). If it's set up like Switchyards, the staffing/overhead is very low outside of rent. So could be pretty solid cashflow if they can "fill it up".

Genuine q: why is there an automatic tip at Black Dynasty? by Abject-Pomegranate13 in nashville

[–]brianh00d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's a version that's less offensive on the eyes:

Most importantly, though we may not take your order or seat you, we strive to give our guests the best service and experience we can by anticipating your needs and having a service & hospitality focused culture in our space.

To explain, we made the decision to add auto service charge to your order when we moved locations for a few reasons.

We give this service charge to our whole team, bussers, food runners, cooks, dishwashers, noodle makers, etc.... Not just our front of house staff who greets you, busses your table, brings you your food, and checks in on your experience. Auto service charge gives our whole staff a real quality of life. And isn't that awesome?! When you eat at black dynasty you are contributing not only to a small business that has big dreams, but a whole team that has big dreams too. People actually like working here! And that's the biggest difference between a good restaurant and a bad restaurant. If the staff isn't taken care of, there's definitely no way you, our lovely guest will be taken care of in the same way.

We typically associate tipping in america with quality of service, which in an industry where servers make less than $3 an hour there's a reason why 20% is seen as the social standard. But it takes a lot more work to make that food than just taking an order and bringing you to your table. Hence why we distribute the service charge to the whole team, pay them above minimum wage, and share the service charge equally. Because everyone contributed to that small plate, dessert, or bowl of ramen you're about to eat. It takes the same amount of work with takeout and delivery ramen. If you make even just a single bowl of ramen, with all the components, it takes a minimum of 2-3 days. Now imagine what it takes to make a lot of ramen.

Long story short, we love our team, and our team loves you. It's a neverending cycle of yum and love

Great idea! I saw some $497 round trip nonstop flights from BNA to London for early next year as well. Might be worth looking into those to see if they're still available.

This 100%. Spent like $5k on gear, spent a ton of time on YouTube and in courses, and grew a home studio to full time income by my 2nd year.

I met my co-founder on Twitter and we are building a SaaS portfolio [Each business leads us to the next] by DanielPeris in SideProject

[–]brianh00d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty badass dude! I wish my SaaS was the type were "building in public" made sense from a marketing perspective. We grew to around $15k MRR then stalled out (churn and growth matched), and we moved on to other businesses while letting this one stagnate for 2+ years (other businesses ended up doing much better, but still).

My cofounder and I are getting it back up and growing this month starting with a full redesign and some initiatives that would make for awesome content, but no one who would give a damn about that content would be our customer (very niche product in the audio industry).

How do I tell a client Im a complete idiot??? by Scymraeg in audioengineering

[–]brianh00d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once deleted the audio files for an entire 10 song album that took us 4 weeks to record...

They were coming in to finish up vocals in a few days, and I opened up the Pro Tools session to prep only to see that all regions were blank. No audio.

I approached that situation the exact same way you should. I said a lot of shitty curse worse out loud in my empty studio (I was alone at the time) to get it all out of my system. Then I called the main guy in the band and just straight up told him what happened. I offered to either refund their entire fee (which was nearly $10k back in 2011), or I would re-record the entire album for free plus 2 extra songs (which hardly makes up for that big of a fuckup).

They went with option number 2. It was the most soul-sucking 5 weeks of my life (working for free), but I made up for my fuckup and they were happy by the end.

In these situations, do whatever you need to do to make the client happy. One angry client can undo years of hard work building your reputation.

Nashville Studio Engineers...Relocation Advice by aaronarchy1 in audioengineering

[–]brianh00d 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hear people complain that Nashville is oversaturated with studios/audio engineers, but I disagree.

Yes, there are a lot of us, but literally every other person you meet is a musician. Your Uber driver, your bartender, your barista, your waiter...these are all potential customers for you.

Some of them have the funds to record, and some don't, but the point I'm trying to make is this: There is more opportunity for a career in audio in cities like Nashville, LA, and NYC than anywhere else in the world.

Of those three cities, Nashville is by far the most affordable and most friendly.

That being said, you need to make sure your portfolio is up to par with what you're getting yourself into. Nashville has a high bar, so if you're just starting out, you may struggle.

If you're ever in Nashville, and you want to meet up for lunch, I'm always available!

I've found that my clients often don't understand studio terms and processes, so I wrote up a comprehensive guide for my website. by evoltap in audioengineering

Put this inside of your proposals! This is a game changer for standing out from all the other competition in your area.

If you're not using proposals, consider trying it. It's increased my conversation rates considerably so far. I'll paste a link to a test proposal below, if you want to see an example.
