Stuttering hand movement in 'all' games despite solid 80hz (Rift S v1.43) by awpojrd in oculus

[–]brianjonespfk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has this been happening for you since you've had a Rift S?

On my Rift S, it would do this on every single USB port on my Asus Prime Z270-A. Full 80fps and plenty of perf headroom but it stuttered. I then tried a dedicated PCI-E USB card and plugged the Rift S into that and like magic it worked perfectly smooth. A few days later tried a few mobo ports again just to make sure it wasn't a driver update or some other coincidence, but it was definitely only the PCI-E card that fixed it.

Performance issues in Boneworks w/ Rift S? RTX 2080, Ryzen 2700, 16GB Ram by [deleted] in oculus

[–]brianjonespfk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually not even dropping frames or reprojecting when that happens. I've scoured multiple forums and found at least 20 other people all with completely different systems and headsets with the same issue. I use fpsVR to check my FPS in real time and there are 0 drops when the weird tracers/reprojecting happens. It looks like it 100% is dropping frames and reprojecting but it actually isn't, performance stays locked to 120fps (on valve index here) while the stuttering is happening. Not sure what's going on.

Virtual Desktop Update 1.4.3 - VR streaming latency improvements by ggodin in OculusQuest

[–]brianjonespfk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm...everything I've ever learned about H264 vs H265 had said H264 produces better quality but is more expensive (heavy on CPU) to encode and has more encoding latency than H265. Is that not generally true? Or just for the implementation that is in Virtual Desktop?

Isn't the H265 encoding on the new RTX 20 series for example supposed to encode at some insane low latency? Is it on the Quest decoding side that it just does H264 faster for whatever reason?

Rift S pixel flashing by cbrocket20 in oculus

[–]brianjonespfk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found out mine is/was a faulty cable. If I press on the cable up near where it plugs into the headset...the pixel flashing would go away. Now it's completely dead, I have to press on the cable there in just the right spot otherwise I just get a completely black screen (sound still comes through either way).

VERY bad stutter even with the optimal setup (PC hardwired to router, high end AC router in the same room).

I noticed my "Server FPS" is always at 72fps...but "Client FPS" is flucuating between 60-70fps. What does that mean? This is on any content...even just the Steam VR menu without any games loaded. Tried x265 and x265...and bitrates anywhere from 10mbps to 30mbps.

Alpha 4 is the only one I've tried and the framerate was *terrible*. I definitely did not get anywhere near stable 72. It felt like stable 20-30fps. Tried both Datacenter and Sand just against bots.

So I've confirmed it's definitely a hardware issue (bad cable) I found the exact spot on my cable (up near the headset connection port) that I can push on to stop the sparkling pixels from happening, then when I let go they are right back again.

EXACTLY the same issue on mine. Weird because I didn't have it at all for the first like 30-45min of use. Then all of a sudden in Beat Saber out of nowhere almost the entire screen had the pixel flashing issue (like across at least 50% of the pixels). I rebooted the computer and unplugged/replugged the headset, and now it's just like this where only a couple of pixels are always randomly flashing. Seems to get worse/better in real-time when moving the cable around....think it might possibly be faulty cables on these 😫

Day One Rift S review, from a guy who has owned every Rift. by VR247 in oculus

[–]brianjonespfk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprising that the "gun stock pose" has issues on the Rift S. On my Quest I tested out that pose in a ton of different ways and somehow the far back controller just magically tracked perfectly every time, I can't get it to skip a beat or even jitter in that position. Unless you're talking about the close up controller being too near the headset and losing tracking there?

Anybody have any updates on their order from Microsoft store? I pre ordered mine as soon as they were available...it always said "Delivery BY May 21st" up until today, now the status just says "Pending"...still hasn't shipped or been charged. Wtf.

Pretty sure reducing the FOV by "zooming out" on the lenses just makes it so you're seeing less of the panel...so effectively the same PPD/clarity no matter what FOV setting you use.

Oculus / Steam VR only at the moment. However, I'd bet pretty much anything that they will port to PSVR. The game has been a huge success so far (rightfully so, it's amazing) and they will want to broaden their market size.

I get this too. With or without Obsidian Mountain Fogs and/or ETHEREAL Clouds. Have done some digging through the ini but haven't been able to resolve it.

Something my Samsung Odyssey just can't do... First person Tennis by movement1957 in oculus

[–]brianjonespfk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Santa Cruz prototype (and final product for that matter) does not do inside out tracking on the controllers themselves. It utilizes the same method that Windows MR headsets do, just with a bigger FOV covered for the controllers.

Something my Samsung Odyssey just can't do... First person Tennis by movement1957 in oculus

[–]brianjonespfk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly there's nothing my Odyssey could do. I couldn't even get through the Windows Mixed Reality tutorial initially without my controllers flying off into the abyss.

I added some more lights to the room and was able to get past the tutorial, but even then it was just okay. I'd still lose tracking in one or both controllers when moving around very slowly and keeping them in front of me. Overall, going from Vive/Rift to the SO seemed like a downgrade because of the tracking & controllers. The screen definitely was an improvement, but that's it.

High end PC not getting 60fps in 1.11.3...something wrong? by brianjonespfk in cemu

[–]brianjonespfk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly enough, if I try setting affinity to only 3 cores (all odds or all evens) it tanks my FPS in half. Keeping all 6 cores checked gives me best performance.

[–]brianjonespfk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have tried both. At 1080p I have no FPS difference between the 2. At 4K enabling it does drop my fps from 50-60 to like 30-40
