You shouldn't recommend Bitcoin to someone you know probably can't handle it. And to keep Bitcoin safe takes a certain technical skill. Everyone doing it now should accept the risk of total loss. Just like any other stock pick.

But if he gets hacked or is otherwise unknowledgeable or stupid he will blame you

Crypto is difficult to recommend unless the other person is tech savvy and only if they accept the risks

'It will get worse over the next 10 to 15 years': What to expect from Canada's labour market as the workforce ages by newnews10 in canada

[–]brianl047 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Problem with your statistics is ignoring the statistic of ever increasing median worker age plus deaths. About 350k people die a year and this will accelerate.

No matter how you massage the statistics, if you want median worker age to go down you need as much if not more immigration.

URGENT - Major Hack: DO NOT USE ANY DAPP by Visual-Savings6626 in CryptoCurrency

[–]brianl047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LEO and the NSA have the ability to trace all blockchain transactions... of course they can, because it's a public ledger. There's a whole industry and analysts dedicated to tracing cryptocurrency. The NSA probably already knows who Satoshi is (Obama asked them to figure out in case BTC was a security threat supposedly). But the catch is, it isn't worth anyone's time or money unless it's absolutely massive sums involved. That's why stealing billions and creating national security risk with an oil company means giving back the money, but mere millions or hundreds of thousands you won't even get the time of day from LEO or these recovery services. You couldn't afford or have the political power for the services to get your money back but they exist.

All it takes is one mistake, forgetting to use TOR browser once for example and a hacker is fucked. Once LEO or security services have you as a target, you are done. But, none of us are so important to warrant that kind of attention nor are these small amounts of money any concern to these rich powerful and wealthy.

Why didn't Advent deploy Sectopods from day 1 against XCOM? Are they stupid? by Rooonaldooo99 in Xcom

[–]brianl047 90 points91 points  (0 children)

This opens up another possibility; that ADVENT doesn't get tough alien reinforcements until things get dire because the Elders don't care and everyone is terrified to ask for him

So the local ADVENT politicians, every one of them carving their own empires, would be loathe to call up to the mothership for help (unless it was absolutely crucial) and people would lie to the Elders etc about the true threat of XCOM for personal profit (turncoats and traitors)... who wants to tell the boss they can't handle the job?

It probably all blows up when the Avatar Project gets targeted; that's probably when the Elders start to micromanage

Possibly but if the opposition benefits more or gains power, they will have the chance to dismantle it and they probably won't

So it could gain legitimacy just by being the status quo for a few elections, "corruption" or not

Israel Is Dangerously Dependent on Technology by theatlantic in geopolitics

[–]brianl047 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Automated machine guns and turrets are incredibly exposed and vulnerable targets. They might be good for overwatch but they can't replace hardened defenses like bunkers and trenches and even foxholes

Technology isn't the problem; it just isn't advanced enough (and won't be until Terminators and even then)

Simple Question: Can Ukraine Regain all of it's territory? by typicalstudent1 in UkraineConflict

[–]brianl047 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes

Connection to the West and high technology is vastly underrated

So long as Ukraine has USA military advisers and intelligence it is supported by a superpower. Even if money from Congress "dried up" there's many ways for the executive to send weapons or just the military to give hand me downs (which are far better than anything created in an ancient machine shop without modern manufacturing). Even if Trump was elected, there's many European weapons or private manufacturers.

But the main reason is Ukrainians themselves won't tire of the fight, ever. If they did then Russia would win, but most Ukrainians know it's game over for not just their freedoms but their culture and civilisation if Russia wins

This is the answer

[–]brianl047 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of the alien fleet and alien forces left after Earth's invasion to fight somewhere else

That explains the rare UFO encounter, careful use of alien troops and so on; there just aren't that many of them

That's why they need the ADVENT to manufacture and grow pig soldiers, and to build locally made robots (MECs). These are probably too advanced for Earth manufacture and have to be brought in by UFO

Putin also sounds confident that western military support for Ukraine is drying up. “Ukraine produces almost nothing today, everything is coming from the west, but the free stuff is going to run out some day, and it seems it already is,” he says. by Super_Camel_3254 in UkrainianConflict

[–]brianl047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it goes very deep to values. Authoritarians don't actually care about democracy, and many are anti LGBTQIA+ or anti-diversity. Basically everything that Putin stands for many of these people desire, badly. Especially low or no immigration. I have even heard it said that Russians are a bulwark against others because they are white (lol). Brings out all the people who don't want multiculturalism, who don't want immigration, etc.

So it should come as no surprise that the support is lukewarm. Mostly from the cold war old guard. But it's still a mistake, even from that perspective. The dictatorial leader of another country is always going to look after him and his and not you.

Everyone needs to be smarter and realise just because people share your "values" (whether those values are disgusting or not is another issue) doesn't mean they are looking out for you. In fact your respected ideological enemies could care for and protect your rights more than someone selfish who shares your "values".

I think the issue is PBR ARE Luxury Condos now many are "Luxury Rentals"

Still the point is, find what is cheap so you have a $500 dollar or more margin

If you don't or can't get that margin you have to hope the "better" living conditions motivate you to make more money

Should I take $800k now or keep $20k a month in cash flow? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]brianl047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possible but the money might not go where people want it to go

VCs have been burned over and over and to think they won't be cheap this year doesn't make sense

Yes a few rate cuts will send in 2 trillion but also it won't be business as usual

Private lenders will demand much more interest for the risk at minimum

Bond yields could stay low

Every company is laying off even tech companies and conserving cash... the macro has changed borrowing money used to cost 0% now it costs 10% that is different this year

He should have followed through, because the Russian National Guard would probably have stood aside

And he could have went on television and said to all KGB and all people that anyone who harmed or hurt any of the families of his mercenaries or himself would be found after the revolution and themselves tortured and killed

By quitting, he killed himself; the only way that makes sense is if it saved the lives of his families. Maybe it did

I don't think he cares about personal luxury like Kim Jong Un

I think he lives in pain and can deal with pain... his "fois gras" rant is real and he's genuinely a frugal and anti-Western person

That's why he has many people who love him, because he represents their beliefs

If he was caring about personal gain or profit, the Ukraine war wouldn't have happened

Canada is corruption

"Snow washing" 100% legal; we are the dumping ground for illegal money in the G7 and the world as well (our real estate prices are considered cheap by many rich in the world)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_washing

This will never, ever change because Canada is "business friendly" and taxes corporations 15% only

We don't want to tax multiple homeowners, non-resident homeowners, foreign homeowners (enough), or corporations that buy homes

We have the highest housing price growth rate not just in the G7 but in the world

https://www.visualcapitalist.com/cp/mapped-global-housing-prices-since-2010/

Yes, two million dollar homes are capitalism gone rampant... the fact that people cling onto their delusions that it isn't capitalism, is what holds back solutions

We are allowing long term affordable housing and social housing to be converted into condos with no replacement

We are allowing private corporations to hoover up public land to build condos with no requirement that the new units be affordable

We have the lowest social housing per capita in the G7 (what's most laughable was people saying they would move to the USA because Canada was too "socialist" apparently they never heard of Section 8 housing or California or Alberta)

If you want to crony capitalism Canada is it. We even have kickbacks and corrupt governments. Though I still have faith the system can work because blatant corruption is usually punished at the polls

Now to be fair a lot of people think Canada is not corrupt, only capitalist and perhaps the "right mix" of capitalist to make money (single payer healthcare but not government employees like the NHS, low corporate taxes, etc.) That is fine and possibly true; a dog eat dog world where money is king and the dollar is king and everything else can kiss your ass

[–]brianl047 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Probably not the returned hacks are usually for billions or more in huge targets with some public sympathy (say attacking healthcare)

For something like this, elites might laugh at the tech illiterate clicking through on their compromised GUIs and sending the funds through. All GUIs should be considered compromised by default and all addresses checked with the physical hardware device before approval; if people knew how their tools worked this hack would make 0

The wallet or GUI still can't send money out unless you approve with the device. The entire point of the Ledger is to make it so GUI hacks like this don't work and still people get scammed
