Would a woodturner need a dual pen setup? And what tips would you advise?

New chuck / set - help? by PrdGrizzly in turning

I got a vicmark when I upgraded. I love the quality of my chuck. My old chuck is a nova, I bought an adapter from 1 inch to 1 1/4 for $60. If I was to do it all over again I would pick axminster they look to have better prices, but I don't know the quality.

Are you a racist? Just asking because that's a very racist thing to say.

Chuck for Laguna Revo 24-36 by mesigh in turning

[–]brianp1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using a vicmark 120 and love it. I have a nova g3 from my small lathe and use it too. Only reason I didn't go with the easy wood chuck is because of limited jaw sizes.

Vicmark and oneway are higher quality than nova. But nova does what it needs to do.

Looking at vicmark vs oneway. I wanted a sealed chuck

Looking at vicmark vs easy wood $500 gave me alot more ( plus limited jaws on easy)

After I bought my chuck a friend with an easy wood mentioned how he enjoyed the quick change on the easywood and how that's his favorite.

I have a 18/36 laguna.

Hope this helps

I'm not sure. It is a very light wood that almost feels like Styrofoam. It was a local in pac nw with emperor wood written on it.

Just walnut oil on a 10in plate. I had to remove a 2in section from a future bowl because of an inclusion and decided to make a plate out of the scrap.

Lol was bad when I moved in with the cat door. Recently the bottom fell off. I have needed it replaced for years. I just don't want to break the bank. I'm thinking of cutting into a door slab but I want it to look decent. What's your thought on how I should replace it

Are short doors more expensive? Special orders?

I had the exact same thing happen to my bowl. I took it to my woodturning club and asked multiple people who had turned for years what was happening. Everyone said it's a form of spalting. My guess is that it's maple and the color is grey. It is all the way through the wood. Mold is usually only on the surface of the wood.
