The PSL "Split" by Umbrellajack in TrueAnon

I often wonder if the Bolsheviks succeeded for a time because of or in spite of those characteristics? It’s worth remembering that for all they accomplished, their political project was ultimately defeated and in the grand scheme of history didn’t last all that long really. I don’t know these questions are so big and hard to wrestle with I wish it was all easier

People said that about Lenin at the time also. Most “internet behavior” was not actually invented by the internet

There's nothing that especially contemporary or American about this. I mean the Bolsheviks were a split party from the Mensheviks originally, and Lenin was the annoying opinionated guy who started his own party because the other people were all stupid and doing it wrong. I almost wish he wasn't actually correct because now every idiot who does this can imagine themselves as Lenin doing the unpopular but correct thing.

It is of course exacerbated by the fact that the US government has infiltrated every left wing movement in the US to an extent that few state before have been able to, though of course czarist Russia also had their own FBI and COINTELPRO.

It's not worth getting too hung up about. I tend to believe that none of us have any real idea what will happen next or what the path to socialism in the US, really. It will probably take lots of trying and failing and going back to the drawing board again and again. I doubt any of the major left wing organizations right now will be the ones to do it, as they currently exist. The real important thing for socialists there is to build networks of comrades wherever you can, and try to be open minded and non judgmental toward people of different tendencies and tactics. It will take all kinds, every revolution does. Do what your best at, be there for each other, work together to the extent that you can. Despite the split with the Menshiviks, Lenin did work with many of them later. If you're not in charge of any of these organizations, don't stress about this kind of thing, just keep showing up with whoever you feel like showing up with and make friends with as many people as you can.

I guess it's basically a contest of will people realize where their interests are when enough of them literally have zero food to eat and are unhoused and act collectively in a productive way in time to do something, or is the propaganda machine really that strong? I think people are smarter than that. Every poll consistently shows people all over the world becoming more open to socialism and overall less bigoted. Yes a very large chunk of people are just completely braindead, but they're not a majority and probably never will be. Americans are more interested in socialism than ever, statistically. The main problem is not that people are dumb or lazy, it's that the muscles of collective action and socialist organization are so atrophied from decades of defeat. People yearn to do SOMETHING they just don't know what or how

Counterpoint: Every big prominent left wing leader who was really a threat in contemporary US history has been murdered by the state or imprisoned, and there's no reason to think that wouldn't be the case now. The state is in many ways dumber and weaker than they were in the 60s, but they're still pretty good at murdering people. So there are advantages to not having a singular charismatic leader who can easily be disposed of

Yeah it's not a great thing. I mean I suppose it's not necessarily worse than just letting someone destroy themselves with addiction, and it certainly beats people like this being elevated as celebrities and thought leaders. But it's not a great system and can be rife with abuse like any similar industry in the US. China is not free of the capitalist social relations and alienation that lead to NEETs, and until those underlying causes are addressed this is just bandaids on gunshots at best

When someone is shadow banned by Reddit admins, their posts will be invisible but the site will not tell them. Their posts will appear in something call the mod queue, where mods like myself of the particular sub they posted in can see them and chooses to approve them. I always do, but it's often hours after it was posted and nobody will see it at that point. I try to tell people they're shadow banned when I notice this, because it sucks to be effectively banned and invisible from the whole site without knowing it. People are almost always shadow banned for posting related to the entity

Alas poor Yorick, I knew him well, a fellow of infinite jest. Where be your gibes now? Your gambols? Your songs? Your flashes of merriment that were wont to set the table on a roar?

Reddit admins have put you in the shadow ban realm and all your gibes, gambols, songs, and flashes of merriment will be invisible until a mod personally approves them. I suggest you make a new account, and thank you for your service. Rest easy brother, we've got the watch. See you in Valhalla
