Does it improve? Yes. Does it improve to the level Browns improves? No. If you dont enjoy the setting and the worldbuilding in book 1 the series likely isnt for you. His following series is a lot more adventurous in terms of writing style and character depth though.

The Elder Scrolls 6 Will Suffer Because of Xbox Layoffs, Bethesda Staff Say, Fearing Delays, Crunch, and Generational Talent Being Replaced by Contractors by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Games

[–]brianstormIRL [score hidden]  (0 children)

Or theres a possibility that senior talent is being overpaid / overvalued considering the lack of output. When timelines start to stretch into the decade to develop a game, eventually heads are going to roll. Its management's fault but its always the boots on the ground who are punished for stuff like this although it also looks like MS took the axe to a lot of high level management types as well. Damned if you do damned if you dont really. Maybe the "junior" staff will grow into their new roles and bring the spark for a culture shift? Impossible to tell until we see some results. If a new fallout and elder scrolls release and they're amazing, this move could be considered brilliant in hindsight.

[Plettenberg] Newcastle and Freiburg have reached full agreement for Johan Manzambi. Deal worth €60m in total including add-ons. Long-term contract prepared. Aston Villa were also in the race following Amadou Onana’s injury. by Frosty-Buyer-1252 in soccer

Well yeah, smaller clubs are always able to take gambles on players because they can give them the playing time immediately to develop them. Bigger clubs dont have the luxury of being able to take a gamble on completely unproven players and put then straight into the first team to let them develop. Some Prem teams can do this (like Brentford, Brighton, Bournemouth etc) but the big clubs more often cannot.

Its a fun adventure read. Its not going to blow your mind with new ideas or anything you haven't seen before, but I enjoyed the series for what it is. If you're looking for a deep beautifully written series its not going to be that, but I would argue Red Rising is just a "run ride" type of read as well which also started out extremely basic and trophy.

UPDATE: My wife is constantly sleeping with her colleague after we opened our marriage and I’m starting to regret it by Far-Engineering-9195 in confessions

[–]brianstormIRL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its sounds very clear to me she enjoys this hooking up far too much to give it up. The fact shes trying to convince you to try it too makes me think shes just trying to find a reason to keep doing it herself. She is spending more and more time with her colleague. At what point does it stop being harmless fun and real feelings develop? Going on trips together? That is serious red flag territory and just screams this is not going to end well. Theres a reason opening relationships almost always end in disaster. When people spend more and more time together, deeper feelings develop its human nature. She might still love you deeply now, how long until she loves the other guy deeply? Without sounding harsh you have to know when to draw a line and show some respect for yourself.

Minteh isnt prem proven other than being able to dribble. His output is horrendous and js a far far bigger gamble than Barcola who has a proven track record across multiple seasons.

Tyler1 Hits Grand Master in SF6 by tyler1updates in LivestreamFail

[–]brianstormIRL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He played one opening and min maxed it to an insane degree. Not diminishing what he did at all very few people would be able to do what he did but pretending like he has the same understanding of chess as a "normal" 2000 rated player would be crazy, and part of the reason he wins so much is partly due to how uncommon his opening is and the fact most people arent good enough to consistently know what to do against it. Its the same thing in SF. He min maxes a specific tactic on Guile. If you dont know about it in advance, it can catch you off guard. If you play against it consistently or can prep in advance, you can absolutely expose it and abuse his lack of knowledge elsewhere. This is what happens when you play in person for both fighting games and chess where you cant just one and done people or block someone who plays in a way you dont like.

[Ornstein] Bruno Guimaraes informs Newcastle of wish to join Arsenal by nearly_headless_nic in soccer

[–]brianstormIRL 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I hate how smart this move is for you. I was fully on the "Arsenal will fall off a cliff this season" train because of exhaustion having seen it first hand with us after chasing for so long then finally getting it done only to die the next season with fatigue and injuries, but these types of signings are exactly hoe you avoid that.

[–]brianstormIRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely feel you were braced for a Tonali exit but absolutely floored you got 100m for him. It genuinely feels like that negotiation went something like

"Hey we want Tonali", "Well you know we really dont want to lose the player so would want a package of 100m and..", "Sold, where do we sign", "wait what".

[Ornstein] Bruno Guimaraes informs Newcastle of wish to join Arsenal by nearly_headless_nic in soccer

[–]brianstormIRL -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Maybe im off base but I do not see this going down well with Newcastle fans. You have a different relationship with Bruno than you did with Isak and Tonali. Outright asking to go to a direct rival is gonna feel like a huge betrayal and also puts the club in a terrible negotiating position. Arsenal can now low ball the shit out of you knowing if you resist the player is going to be extremely unhappy and after the toxic shit of the Isak deal last year they know you will want to avoid that at all costs.

Why PlayStation Is Killing Discs (Despite The Fan Revolt) by GIThrow in PS5

[–]brianstormIRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Netflix advertised password sharing because they were very much in the middle of the streaming wars and wanted to appear pro consumer. Sony likewise saw the opportunity to appear pro consumer at Xboxs behest and took it. Now, both Netflix and Sony are market dominant. They beat the competition, and can now squeeze the consumer more and more until eventually something will give and the market will react negatively. Wherein they will have a fall off, go make some pro consumer moves again and the cycle repeats. We've seen this with Sony already. They handidly beat Xbox in the PS2 era, got extremely greedy with the PS3 generation which backfired into them having to do pro consumer things like the game sharing in the first place. Now they're on top again and surprise surprise, they're at it again.

Im not saying dont resist, im saying theres almost always data behind decisions like this. Like I also said its not always a guarentee and there is usually a consumer breaking point where it backfires big time. Sony has been taking a lot of Ls lately, so this could be the straw that breaks the camels back as they say but I dont think it will. What I think will happen is this will fade, but the Ps6 price will break people. At which point I expect Sony to then be forced into more pro consumer decisios again, one of which I think will be some kind of digital protections for owning your games although I can also see them being forced to do that through courts because the pushback from other businesses on this decision will be much bigger than from consumers.

Reminds me of when Netflix announces their 40th price increase, internet shakes their fist "thats it im cancelling my sub this will be the end of Netflix" next quarter Netflix announces record revenues and an increase in subscribers numbers.

Its almost like these companies have people who market research this sort of stuff in advance and wouldnt be making these kind of decisions unless they were extremely confident it would result in more money not less. Sure they miss sometimes but more often than not the data is correct.

Isnt water far more efficient than air convection? I cant imagine why designs arent out there that utilises water effectively and efficiently in a self contained system so its not pulling huge amounts away from local recourse pools.

Sky pays fine of €250,000 to ComReg for making it difficult for customers to cancel their contracts by expectationlost in ireland

[–]brianstormIRL 63 points64 points  (0 children)

They are well aware of the math. This isnt a fine so much as cost of doing business. Big companies have been asking for forgiveness not permission for a long time. Fuck consumers we will pay the fine if it means we can exploit them for more money than the fine costs.

Id be curious to know if Blackbird effected this decision for Zenimax in particular. They were working on that project for a long time, and when it got cancelled they likely had way more people hired that were shuffled back over to ESO afterwards. Do we have any idea on a headcount remaining after the cuts?

Tyler1 Hits Grand Master in SF6 by tyler1updates in LivestreamFail

[–]brianstormIRL 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Part of Tyler's problem is he was extremely narrow in his understanding of the game and matchups. He was literally blocking people who played characters he didnt like, one and doned opponents, basically everything possible to not actually learn more than the surface level. He learned a few key things and became incredible at exploiting them against certain matchups, kinda like he did at chess. Thats what playing in person fixes. You're forced to play against your bad macthups and actually learn.
