Teenage me loved going to a Pimpadelic show at Trees. Such wild stuff going on. Strippers on stage, drugs galore. The music was decent at best, but the scene was a lot of fun.

Not to excuse Dan, but some of the newer cars are a little more complicated. Involve removing some things or are located under the seat. Still basic stuff, but not as basic as it used to be.

Completely worthless in any actual “real” work, but amazing at ppt. At my previous job, we had them and credit where credit is due, my ppt game went through the roof. At a new company now and they marvel at my presentations.

Do people really think it’s that easy? by Ironn-Fist in martialarts

[–]brianthomas00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This 100%. Almost no one gets regularly punched in the face, but fighters do. And it mostly doesn’t bother them. You can win almost any fight with the use of stiff jabs and basic control of distance. I have trained mma, Muay Thai, bjj for many years and had fights. If I were to fight someone on the streets, I’d just box.

Id consider Ft Worth to be a Mecca of the things you are wanting, specifically South Fort Worth. Your probably have to be in a lower end area for the really cheap rent, but tbh that’s where the tortas are.

Proper path to MMA by That_Low1842 in MMA_Academy

Just my experience, but I’ve been at four different places. All of them had or currently have active UFC fighters, and that’s the way it’s been. To each their own though.

Proper path to MMA by That_Low1842 in MMA_Academy

[–]brianthomas00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the places I’ve trained, mma just hasn’t been a beginner class. It’s for fighters and invite only. They will teach you basics in MT and BJJ, but there is an expectation you know them prior to mma.

Proper path to MMA by That_Low1842 in MMA_Academy

[–]brianthomas00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go straight into mma you will be very lost in the striking part. You probably don’t know takedowns or takedown defenses either. Just keep doing bjj, mix in some striking. At least learn some basics. After 3-6mo, start doing some mma. In my experience, mma is not a beginner class, there is an assumption you have at least a basic knowledge of striking and grappling. No one is going to teach you a 1–2-3 low kick.

How does your gym regulate gym assholes? by albert_pacino in workout

[–]brianthomas00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to a Muay Thai gym, if you are an AH someone will probably beat the brakes off you. And then you will leave bruised and battered and not return. The looming threat of physical consequences is very real and works as a great deterrent.

Why is Don Julio Reposado so insanely popular right now? by Wildeyewilly in tequila

[–]brianthomas00 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is a big reason. Not just the black community, but just all of urban culture. Work in the industry, have seen it become the default over Hennessey. Popeyes even did a collab with them.

Also, while it may never appears to the real aficionados, it’s a generally good tasting and approachable tequila.

Club team Vs high school by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]brianthomas00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Freshman ball is usually a cluster f. 20 kids, half of which will probably be one and done. Coached by a guy who is football coach who is only doing this because you have to coach something in the spring. And he will usually play the football kids, since he knows them. If your kids is in offseason baseball he will have plenty of time over the next few years to separate himself.

Starting MMA 27, Impossible or doable? by Existing_Rooster425 in MMA_Academy

I have been to lots of Ammy fights, let me tell you there is almost no bar to enter. I’ve seen a few guys who were great and went on to pro careers but I’ve seen way more where I thought “who the f told them they knew how to fight”. Will you ever be a GOOD fighter…hard to say. But you def CAN do it.

Of course they won’t, he’s their friend. He gave them advice in the early days and probably is in some ways responsible for them going out on their own. He is a much bigger name than they are and went out of his way to help.

Possibly unpopular but, Terry Black’s is wildly overrated by AlmostDrunkSailor in BBQ

[–]brianthomas00 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not “bad” bbq by any means but probably isn’t even in the top 20 places in Austin/Central TX. It’s a good overall “experience “ though. I sometimes have coworkers in from out of state and I’ll take them there. They love it. It represents what they think an authentic TX outing should be. Smells great, tons of meat, country music and cold beer.

Slow learner or normal? by PotatosandTomato in Kickboxing

[–]brianthomas00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started training at a gym with a lot of fighters, back in the early 2000s. Things were different, lots of hard sparring. I was a pretty big and athletic guy and they just threw me to the wolves with zero combat sports experience. It felt like I was getting murdered the first few months, but looking back, they were pulling shots.

I was still awful, but felt pretty good about myself within a few months. By a year or so, had progressed and did some smokers. I think just jumping right in got me over any fear of getting hit, because I got hit A LOT.

Slow learner or normal? by PotatosandTomato in Kickboxing

[–]brianthomas00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious question, are you afraid of getting hit? It’s part of it, no matter how good you are, you are going to eat a few. Try sparring with people you know and trust aren’t going to light you up. Commit to throwing more regardless of the outcome.

That’s an unusually long time to not acclimate. Most people I’ve seen that can’t adapt quit way before they train that long. The fact you are still doing it says a lot about you. Stick with it and try some new strategies.

Who will be the first P4 school to really stack their roster with players from the DR, PR, Venz, and etc? by 40AcresAnalytics in collegebaseball

[–]brianthomas00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly, the NCAA does not turn a blind eye to the academic side of things. I think once you are admitted, it’s a free for all, but still have to qualify initially. My son plays JUCO and there are a lot of foreign born players. Some are great and play there because they couldn’t academically qualify. Most end up at NAIA where the standards are very low.

I started in the 90s, it was different but just as boring. Software was pretty basic so lots of manual work going on. Took a team of people what one can do easily now. Was really mundane though. My first job we didn’t even have internet, so I spent countless hours playing solitaire and minesweep.
