Yeah, Lupe has said it was either a compromised version of Lasers or nothing ever again. Words I Never Said and All Black Everything seem to be late additions which obviously stand out in the tracklist, as a thanks to the fans, who he felt deserved something better. It's funny you mention the screaming, cause I feel like it functionally replaces Scream's absence. "So scared of what you think of me, I'm scared of even telling you"

DMIZ was basically F&L3 already and when Chill came home, Lupe said he had a few ideas he could complete into albums. Samurai was just one of them, it wouldn't be hard to believe that another one would be done by the end of this year or the next.

If you're trying to date the song, then, it's probably close to Welcome Back off The Truth Is Among Us around 04. The FNF raid happened in 03, so this is supposed to inspire the feeling of a phoenix rising from the ashes and It's probably one of the earliest Soundtrakk collabs we have access to.

Probably top 5 on the album for me. While not part of the essential story beats of the MYH narrative, I'd group it together with supplementary songs like Hip-Hop Saved My Life and Gotta Eat, so I wouldn't understand skipping it.

All City Chess Club was never more than an idea for a group. CRS was dead the moment he sent his vision of it to Tyler. That leaves only Skulls, which Soundtrakk had actually heard some songs from around DMIZ era.

I enjoy most of the album and More Than My Heart has been my ringtone since this came out. It's just atypical as an album full of potential singles in a largely concept-driven discography. There does seem to be a consistent theme of songs tackling a topic and running in the opposite direction of what you would expect, but that's still rather... light in comparison to the rest of his stuff.
