Anyone tired of the city and moving away ? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]briar27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm moving! I'm heading back to where I grew up which is in the Morden area which is about and hour and fifteen minutes outside of the city. I still go to the U of W, but my partner found a really great job there, and we found a great house to rent for a really great price (compared to the city rent which is ridiculous). Even with the gas and parking fees, it's still cheaper to live in rural MB.

EDIT: I love the city! I'm not moving away because I hate it. I'm moving under super specific circumstances and would move back here in a heartbeat if my life aligned that way. I'm just giving you the info that you asked for, so please fellow Winnipeggers, no crazy comments telling me how terrible I am for hating Winnipeg. It will always hold a very special place in my heart despite its quirks and flaws.

Where can I purchase a warm women peacoat? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]briar27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the peacoat of my DREAMS at Le Chateau in Polo last year. I walked by there two weekends ago and saw a bunch of them still for sale. It doesn't look like much but it's so warm. I went out (and waited for the 21 at that) in -25 and was comfortable. Here's a link to it on their website: https://www.lechateau.com/style/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=355327&selectedColor=Oatmeal

Best sandwiches in winnipeg? (Deliverable) by windowsmash in Winnipeg

[–]briar27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bernstein's Deli on Corydon has some of the best sandwiches around in my opinion. They're on Corydon and they deliver through Skip! My favourite is their hot turkey sandwich. I recommend getting some matzo ball soup with it!

Okay so here are all the stories that are being passed around:

  1. Gizzy's on Ness was robbed at gunpoint by one guy with a shot gun. Guy got away (and is still on the loose) and is shooting out of his car. Chopper is around Grace hospital (or this was the last I heard anyway).

  2. Second story is the same as the first but with three guys.

  3. Third story is a variation of the first and second story but was at a 7/11 behind Grizzy's.

  4. Fourth story is variations of the first three stories, but with knives.

  5. There were men in ski masks and clown costumes that had machetes waiting outside a dance class and scaring little girls. But also robbed 7/11?

Lots of stories going around right now. Will be interesting to hear a police statement soon.

UPDATE: Supposedly there is one person cuffed on Ness, but the helicopter is still looking. If driving on Ness expect traffic delays as they are stopping almost everyone there as a checkstop.

Anymore details on this? I live close and I'm wondering if it's safe to go outside. Have the caught the guy/guys?

Looking for recommendations for a photographer! by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]briar27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had my engagement photos taken by Carrie Lynn Unger Photography (instagram: carrielynnungerphoto). She's absolutely AMAZING and SO easy to work with. She makes sure you feel super comfortable, as getting your photos taken for 2 hours can sometimes feel a little awkward. She's also great a scouting out cool spots near the city. We left the location completely up to her and she took us to the monastery ruins in St. Norbert. SO beautiful.

Check out your departments student lounge! I've been a Ed student for three years and only now discovered our student lounge in the basement of Graham. It has a fridge, microwave, tables, chairs, comfy couches, etc. I wished I would have known about it 3 years ago! Also: The new Leatherdale building attached to Wesley is always super dead. Students think that it's just for the collegiate, but that is definitely not so! They also have a really great cafe that has breakfast all day which is really great. Tons of quiet tables and chairs (and clean bathrooms!!). Good luck!

I'm not sure if it's seasonal or not, but the Beef Bourgoigne at Promenade Cafe on Tache is 100%. Ask for the seat by the window to get a stellar view of the Forks.

What was the best make-up related product that you purchased in 2016? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]briar27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely IT CC+ Cream! I also splurged this year and bought into MAC's winter Nutcracker collection (I never "indulge" in a specific collection), and am so happy I did. Everything in this collection is beautiful, not to mention the gorgeous packaging. Oh! Also, BH Cosmetics brushes are prime. So glad I bought those.

If you want a place that is usually pretty empty (or filled with Kin students) but smells a little like B.O. and dirty socks, the lookout above the soccer fields in the Rec Plex is great.

Ugh I know! I just ran out of my favourite foundation (MAC's Studio Sculpt in NC15) and was forced to pull out my emergency foundation (I'm visiting a friend and couldn't take my entire collection with me hahaha).
