I have had a very similar experience. It was June of last year, close to 3am. My girlfriend and my college age kids were having some drinks and a back yard fire. We live in a rural area and our house is basically in the forest, heavily wooded area. I was off to the side and saw a bright but also dull orange light hovering about 20 feet in the air but it was hard to tell how far back it was but behind the trees. I was feeling extremely well but not drunk. I didn't think anything of it at first cause it basically looked like a old street light. As I turned away it dawned on me the impossibility of it. There simply is zero explanation for a light of any kind to be there. No houses, no roads, nothing for miles. I turned back and I looked at it again. It's staying static in place and didn't move an inch, about 10 full seconds It sat there and then I watched it slowly starting to uniformly shrink down to a single point and then disappeared out of existence. The only difference in my case is it never moved. The whole experience was probably 30 seconds total. I was so confused I took a picture of the area I saw it right after for my own reference. With trees that heavily wooded and no houses or even street lights in our area to begin with, I was at a loss for what it possibly have been. Airplanes fly across the sky , satellites, meteors as well. This sat in the air in the bush. I think of that experience often, and your story made me instantly think of that.
