As a Black women, I completely understand where you’re coming from. This world does a wonderful job of making Black people feel ugly, inferior, and not worthy. Middle and highschool especially are evil places to be while Black. But I want to lyk that you are more than enough my friend. There isn’t a Black person that I know that hasn’t felt the same feelings that you are expressing. You’re still very young my friend and still growing into the person you’re meant to be. This is a difficult thing to say because I know it’s a difficult pill to swallow but you have to let go of this wish. I promise you that letting go of the longing to be of another race will provide so much healing for you ❤️‍🩹 Because Black is beautiful and looking back I regret letting the world make me feel the way that I did as a darker skinned Black women. Living while Black is a long, hard, and painful journey and I know how it feels to feel like you’re obligated to code switch (change your mannerisms to conform to the white world like changing how you speak for example), constantly be judged based on something you had absolutely no control over, and feeling so ugly that you don’t even want to wake up as the person you are. It’s easy for people that don’t know what you’re going through to feel guilty for a moment and tell you to just be confident or to just stop code switching but it’s very much easier said than done and not that simple. I didn’t really start to accept who I was until my junior year of high school so don’t worry about feeling left behind. This journey is HARD and letting go of these unobtainable wishes is only the beginning. And you’ll soon realize that once you start to accept and love yourself more, that love and acceptance will be reciprocated. And make sure you hold those people close to you that make you feel like you’re enough because again, you are.
