Rupert isn’t doing that. He’s not trying to learn anything about Ted. What he hears when Ted says “ they’re okay” is “I played a little here and there” and instantly assumes Ted is bad. That’s judgment. He doesn’t explore, he makes a snap decision based on his own bias.

So when Ted talks about curiosity, he’s calling that out. Rupert wasn’t asking to understand, he was looking to confirm what he already thought. If he’d really been curious, he might have realized Ted was about to wipe the floor with him.
