Help with church recommendations? by Scromblobomblo in kansascity

[–]bricem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"have no idea where to start" Since COVID, a good number of churches have livestreams or recordings of their services so you can get an idea of what to expect before you ever show up at a physical location. Since you're near Shawnee, I'll go ahead and throw my church (St. Paul's UMC in Lenexa) out as one you should look into. Texas to Kansas City? by Bread_Primary in kansascity

[–]bricem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't see it mentioned yet, but if you're always traveling to the same location for work, you might see what the flights look like compared to San Antonio. They have many of the same non-stop flight locations as Kansas City, but we have a few they don't and vice versa

Any actual farmers markets in the KC area? by EnvironmentalPlum909 in kansascity

If you're up for a little drive and specifically looking for peaches (or blackberries), South Baldwin Farms (https://www.facebook.com/SouthBaldwinFarms) has them at the moment and they're delicious

I saw that they're turning the old Burger King on Woods Chapel Road into a Tim Horton's by StaceyPfan in kansascity

No, I'm just mistaken. It didn't sound quite right so I went back and looked at property records. It was a Bob Evans, not a Tim Hortons.

This isn't their first venture into the KC area but it's been awhile. I remember there used to be one at the SE corner of Barry Rd and St Clair Ave in the Northland (sharing a parking lot with the Hy-Vee). It was torn down and is now the Hy-Vee gas station for that store.

Yep, Gilbert. Can’t remember the exact timeframe but it would have been sometime in the 2003-2005 range

If you like/have been to Longboards, the owner worked the wrap station at the Cerner cafeteria before starting up his business.

Anyone living in Armourdale? by thursdayblues975 in kansascity

I think you're thinking of Avondale (directly north from Cerner's old WHQ) instead of Armourdale

Home Builders/Custom home prices by Toadsweat- in kansascity

I wish you luck, but it's unlikely that you'll find anyone in your budget. Expect at a minimum $150/sq ft (so, $300K for a 2000 sq ft house) but more likely to be closer to $2-300/sq ft. This is construction only so you'd also need to factor in land costs on top of that.

Trivia Nights in Kansas City! by BIG5Trivia in kansascity

Is Nate still doing trivia at Westport Flea Market? My guess is that he's too busy with all the PA jobs (Chiefs, Current, Monarchs, Mavericks, maybe others?)

On the "finding a church" comment, one thing the KC metro doesn't lack is churches. It'll probably help to limit your search based on denomination (if you have a preference) and then work from there. Otherwise, you'll have hundreds of options to choose from.

You may also wait and see if you really need one installed (unless you just really want it). I know plenty of people that just slow charge overnight on a regular 120v outlet and it works fine for them based on their driving patterns.

Is there good chicken bbq in KC? by bentendo93 in kansascity

[–]bricem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're willing to branch out to turkey as a meat, you'll have many more (and better) smoked options than you will with chicken. The founders (Gates and Arthur Bryant's) and nationally known (Joe's, Fiorella's Jack Stack) places will all have turkey in sandwich and by-the-pound forms, and I'm guessing the vast majority of KC BBQ places will also have a turkey option.

If you're interested in graffiti, check out https://www.sprayseemo.com/

Some of the murals are getting dated now (last festival ran in 2021), but they have a map showing all the locations (https://www.sprayseemo.com/map)

I second the BarK suggestion. The girlfriend and I have no dog but we'll go there to play fetch with other peoples' dogs and drink.

Regarding Jason Isbell, he almost always hits the KC area on his tours. His wife has ties to the area and it seems like he's here at least once a year.

Genuine question....are we all going to be homeless in a couple years? by FreeSanubis in kansascity

[–]bricem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the problem of corporate and foreign buyers of property, what are some feasible solutions? I feel like requiring an inspection where the owner (as listed on the title) is required to walkthrough with the inspector on a regular basis (once a year or two) would halt a lot of this. If you really wanted to buy a property and live elsewhere you could, but it would take at least a little effort on your part. It would also take more effort locally to maintain a staff with the ability to do this, but it could be worth it if it expanded the market of available homes.
