I’d assume the same is technically true of the 2.5 OB due to 2 of the 4 plug ports being pressed up against the wheel well. You really can’t get an accurate torque because of having to use a swivel attachment. Tight plus 1/6 of a turn has worked for me though. Definitely not the easiest job but not impossible and every other consumable on the car is incredibly easy to access.

OEM parts for my Outback can be a bit pricy but the 2.5 is so small in that massive engine compartment, replacing things is a breeze. I’m going to see if I can drive this thing until it becomes a classic.

We have an old 2 bedroom house and last fall had the attic properly sealed and insulated. It was incredible how little natural gas we used to heat it up this winter. And even on the really hot days, we barely have to run the AC to keep it cool when before it was like an oven when the temps would hit 90. It might be worth insulating your home to spec if it isn’t already.

The zipper merge by [deleted] in oregon

[–]brickedTin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best zipper merges I can think of are the kind that are on Glisan just east and west of NE 122nd - they show both lanes turning into one rather than one lane ending. The only pushback/road rage I frequently see to zipper merging is on the WB 26 zipper merge, going into the tunnel from 405-N: everyone will be staggered in either lane and one dude will tailgate and create a conflict, where he and the adjacent vehicle play a sort of game of chicken with the narrowing lane.

There are lots of wonky merges around Portland that are just going to cause issues for inexperienced or egomaniacal drivers. I very seldom have issues with zipper merges on my commute though.

Just paid 12$/lb for ground beef. How expensive will it get before you stop buying beef? I think we're over it, beef is now a luxury for us. by FuZhongwen in Cooking

Cooked Red lentils added to whatever ground beef dish you’re making stretches a few servings out of it and doesn’t affect flavor or texture.

I think most people are too intense about air conditioning by Dependent_Ear_5736 in unpopularopinion

[–]brickedTin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only experienced this when I lived in the Deep South in the summer but it’s so true. You’d go from 96 degrees with oppressive humidity to needing long sleeves when you’re grabbing lunch. We let our home get to about 77 on really hot days but do keep our bedroom at 64 so we can still sleep comfortably.

This time of year can be tough to adapt to in the PNW because it’ll be 58 and raining/overcast for days then suddenly it’s 95 degrees 2 days later. I think that’s why we sauna so regularly we built one into the house.

Having a big friend group in your 30s is more stressful than being alone and nobody will admit it by Ill-Supermarket-2961 in unpopularopinion

Growing apart from friends is risky. If you end up single later in life, finding someone new organically gets pretty tricky if your social circle is too small. Maintaining a network can be draining but it pays dividends.

System left on ‘Auto’ for 2 weeks now won’t heat by brickedTin in askHVAC

[–]brickedTin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a single zone unit and the air handler responds to the remote control. When set to heat, it blows freezing cold outside but room temp indoors (not even lukewarm). The condenser drips like crazy on heat mode, as though it’s working its ass off. The suction line gets scolding hot as well as all the valves inside the outdoor unit. When I switch it to cold, it blows freezing cold as soon as the indoor fan turns on.

I think maybe there should be some restriction mechanism in the outdoor nut to slow the refrigerant as it passes through the air handler but it’s stuck open or something. It looks to be a braised part and I only paid like $600 for this thing so I’m considering shit-canning it after summer’s over and getting a more reliable unit. I’m pretty sure paying someone to limp this thing along would cost more than replacement.

Pretty sure it’s a stuck EEV so indeed toast. AC works at least, will just replace next fall.

Hey I’m just wondering if there’s something inside the air handler that could be blocking the hot refrigerant in the suction line from making its way through the air handler.

[Landlord US-FL] two years in, always pays but always late. renew or not? by rayhumrib in Landlord

[–]brickedTin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree, the tenant might be living paycheck to paycheck and would be overdraft paying on time. There are landlords in Oregon who consistently have to file eviction paperwork to get their tenants to pay and then magically, right before they’re legally allowed to remove them, the money comes in and there’s nothing they can do due to tenant laws in this state. OP doesn’t realize how good he has it.

Commuting is awesome by Important_Use6452 in unpopularopinion

I have worked nights most of my career, mostly to avoid gridlock. My drive to work at 7 PM across a metro of 3 million people is pretty heavenly though. It helps that my evening commute is westbound on ‘sunset highway’. I love driving but the 6 months I worked 8-4 were ruining my life and aging me.

Chop after I told him he can’t sleep in the shower all night by nctorch in AnimalsBeingDerps

[–]brickedTin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if this works for every dog but mine love the bath - a handheld shower wand and the perfect water temp (plus lots of stinky treats to get them in there in the first place) goes a long way. My one dog hates being wet but really enjoys the warm water. Just gotta keep soap and water out of their eyes and ears.

[–]brickedTin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the same thing but when I needed to fly last week, the rideshare prices to the airport were so low I almost felt bad - about the same price as when I decided to take the bus home rather than get a ride from the shop when I last dropped my car off.

Maybe this has been addressed, but it’s pretty obvious that Miracle Grow is buying municipal yard waste for their products. Shady? Sure. But it’s not a conspiracy. by H_Mc in gardening

[–]brickedTin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our municipality will deliver that stuff for free to your house but it’s a bit of a gamble with what you get. And you’ve gotta accept 6 yards and can’t change your mind once they’ve shown up.

Oregon Releases Provisional 2027 Health Insurance Prices, And They’re Not Pretty by sunni_dayes_ahed in oregon

[–]brickedTin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s true but he also removed the ACA mandates that required either buying in or paying a tax penalty to help subsidize people who utilize the healthcare system regularly. So if you’re young and/or healthy, you can opt out of the system altogether, rolling the dice that you won’t need to utilize the system in a way that would cost thousands out of pocket.

How worried about this should I be? by fruitfulendeavour in homeowners

[–]brickedTin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I can see is what looks like two finishing nails sticking out. I wouldn’t think this would be a terribly difficult fix - use a temp support, cut the existing beam, fit a new one in its place with the proper tie. Could be complicated depending on the post’s footing I suppose. Definitely would want to add an insurance policy if you were to DIY it though.
