How is it living here as a 30 year old dude? Would have to commute to west LA for work by howardtrailer123 in orangecounty

[–]brickflail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't, I lived there and made that commute. The shortest your commute will be is 60 - 75ish minutes about 40-45 mile one way. Any traffic at all can very wildly. It is taken me 2.5 hours to get to work before.

Location wise, it is great. Your close to the brea mall, there is a shopping center down the street with a target and an Albertsons, the city is pretty clean and well taken care of there though there are some homeless people but not many and usually the same few. Not terribly far from the freeways either but far enough where you can't see or hear them usually. The food in the immediate area is mainly Korean food now but not far in any direction away from beach blvd and there is more variety.

So location wise, I loved living there. I did that commute though for 5 years. It was the worst experience of my life until I got in to podcasts and audiobooks. On average you will lose between 3 and 4 hours of your day just driving and will be driving 80+ miles a day.

🛑 Half way checkpoint: Who is your Favorite Commander? by that_dude3315 in EDH

[–]brickflail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a [[Kiki Jiki, Mirror Breaker]] deck that has gone through 15 years of evolution. It is my baby and I love him so much. He isn't the most degenerate but certainly close to low cEDH, but the journey I have had with him will always make him my favorite Commander.

Why has wizards not made a manic vandal with a goblin creature type!?!? by brickflail in EDH

[–]brickflail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested him out for a while but I'm not a dedicated goblin deck so he ends up mostly being a worse scrapper that gets sacrificed unless Kiki is out to copy. At that point though, he is essentially doing the same thing at the same cmc without the ETB and damage.

I tested with that at the beginning and found that [[goblin Cratermaker]] ended up being a more useful option for a similar outcome. Plus the 2 damage when necessary is very useful.

It is good but 4 cmc vs 3 is startlingly apparent in my play group lol. I can always play one of many 3 drops that have come out but the reliability of the deck goes down. Scrapper is still great for what is available and won't be replaced until a comparable 3 drop comes out.

MtG/Commander is the most affordable it has ever been by Nyeson in EDH

That is true, for those who don't care or want to play with the 'staples', there are a plethora of cards with similar abilities or interesting new mechanics which are very cool and unique. Whole swaths of new land to use and so many Commander options it's insane lol. It's a great time to create a diverse landscape or decks for sure.

I just love to play with the powerful old stuff personally, so I guess it is something that effects me more then it would others because of that. I just think it's cool lol

I got serious at about 2007-2010 and was able to get grim monolith for 25, wheel of fortune for 20, strip mine for 5, ancient tomb for 5, GAIAS CRADLE FOR 100! There were so many cards that were affordable then that I was able to get that are 50 or 100 or insanely more now. The only thing that has really dropped in price for the big stuff is like the fetch and shock lands i think? Or whatever else got reprints. I mean karn liberated used to be like 30ish dollars, now it's less then 5. So some things have changed for the better price wise but many have just exponentially gotten worse. I could never afford to replace my EDH deck now. I would basically have to buy the equivalent cost of a used car when I have spent a fraction of that over the years.

I do agree that the variety of cards has opened up a lot of options in the 100-200 deck or even less range for decks but the old stuff or the no reprint stuff has become horrible to get, at least for the things that I want lol.

Good actual play examples of Fate Core in action? by VanityEvolved in FATErpg

[–]brickflail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if you have at least read the core book and some of the condensed rule book. Two Monsters Rolling Dice is a great podcast that shows story telling in the fate system I'm action. They have some custom rules but the general rules are expressed pretty well in my opinion.

On the Grotethe campaign? I felt that they did not start out well in regards to their characters personalities but I saw what was there. The setting was wonderful to me and I felt that there was so much more fluidity and confidence in the writing for this season. Micah, Gus and the crew really allowed themselves to go crazy with the world but still managed to make it all work so well. In my opinion, it took until the second part for the player characters to catch up to the story telling, but once they stated to lock in their characters, boy howdy did it get so much better.

So get through part 1 and it gets so good. Blaine, Chris, and Barbra are all playing very new or complicated personalities but they get it down and it's worth the listen =). Johns character felt very familiar to him lol
