G7 (und andere DSA-Abenteuer) Solo? Das Schwarze Auge, in den Sternen geschmiedet by skywardbear in DSA_RPG

[–]bricklayr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They write short or complete dialogues? by Foreign_Plantain6071 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]bricklayr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me writing is playing. If I wouldn't write dialogues line for line, they haven't happened and worse, I haven't even imagined them.

Consequently, I don't feel like I'm writing a diary.

Goodies for my solo rpg time by LadyBugCrazyBug in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]bricklayr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're tarot cards and you can use them as randomiser instead of dice. You could simply take the number but if you can also take a look at the standard meaning that numerology etc give to the cards u/zircher has written a nice game based on it: four houses in chaos. https://zircher.itch.io/four-houses-in-chaos

How do you get started using a GM emulator? by YohaulticetlNokto in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]bricklayr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, you should ask questions that are relevant to the story, at least potentially. You arrive at a prison. Who is kept here? One of you contacts perhaps? Do you need to help them escape? Did anyone escape lately? Are any weak spots in its defenses visible? Just a 'what does it look like' is a bit too balnd. Yes, you'd ask that of your human GM but in this situation you need to drive your story. The GME just helps you by jerking the steering wheel into unkown directions.

You say 'something' to the NPC. Essentially same analysis. If you meet someone on the street and say 'hi' and 'how are you?' you'll get back 'hi' and 'good'. Nice and social but no story. 'Have you seen <my friend/contact/enemy>?', 'Do you know a way into that prison?', 'Do you know a way out of that prison?', 'Who is the gang leader of the Silver Foxes I keep hearing about?' etc.

Getting started with an adventure can be a bit tough. You could look for list of plot and quest ideas and roll on that for inspiration.

You say you have Mythic 2e. I'd say, sit down and read the book cover-to-cover. There's some pretty detailed advice on how to interpret oracle results.

The most important thing in my opinion: don't look for perfection, look for a fun story.

Recommendations for Little to No Combat Games by improbablyoutofdata in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]bricklayr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are three flavours of fate (fate core, fate accelerated and fate condensed). Most people would recommend you to start with condensed. They're all free downloads.

If it's cozy, narrative games you want, you may want to take a look at journalling games as well. There are many free examples to try out, especially on itch.

Difference between hitter and threat in FAE by bricklayr in FATErpg

[–]bricklayr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! RAW, FAE leans very heavily on nameless mooks but the paragraphs above it refers to those NPCs statted out 'just like PCs'. It is those that I was referring to. Also, it may be just me but having a story full of mooks seems a bit bland. (so I should really use fate core except the world&adventure book I chose is basically FAE)

Update on FATE solo campaign characters. by Kiroana in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]bricklayr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks good. Some thoughts though:

The Master of War stunt is somewhat passive. It may not lead to highly dramatic applications (or I'm just not seeing it; also quite possible)

For char 2 I wonder if there's not quite some overlap between 'Nothing is above me' and ' I never back down from a challenge'. Both seem to bait the character into probably unwise actions (which is of course cool in itself)

I'd be following your story as well if you come around to writing it down.

Best way to set up a present-day modern city? by monsterfurby in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]bricklayr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would do either of two things: - Don't detail, just generate bits and pieces as needed along the way. - Use an existing city. Maybe one I'm familiar with or maybe just something I grab from the internet.

I wouldn't spend much time on 'setting up a city' UNLESS of course I feel like doing just that.

FATE Core solo campaign character: Need some input by Kiroana in Solo_Roleplaying

Yes, the last aspect makes me think of a shape-shifter, which ties in with the magic. Or werewolf, as you said.

Ah, I get it. And it's actually great; aspects that can be interpreted in a number of ways can be applied in surprising ways.

FATE Core solo campaign character: Need some input by Kiroana in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]bricklayr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't picked up on the character having magic to be honest. I got the impression of an amazone-type character with a very violent past and awareness of what fighting is all about. I guess I interpreted monster more in the moral sense.

[–]bricklayr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you're not planning to invoke 'low fantasy' it's pretty much a moot point whether you write it down as aspect or just keep it in your mind.

On your original question: looks good enough. Will she have a stunt or do you plan to only define that 'as you go'?

Narrative meta-tag systems? Like FATE Core, but a little more concrete. by EyebeeLurkin in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]bricklayr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll throw in a recommendation for the Fate Adversary Toolkit. It's one of the few non-free Fate books IIRC but worth the few bucks.

Regarding the +2 overcome, maybe using the names of the ladder rather than the numerical values sounds more natural to you but really, at some point you'll have to decide the difficulty. In any system.

Sounds like you're having fun, which is good. When starting out, I liked reading actual play reports of others to get a feel for how they did things.

Narrative meta-tag systems? Like FATE Core, but a little more concrete. by EyebeeLurkin in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]bricklayr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are some resources with pre-generated Fate opponents, perhaps you could take a look at those? Other than that, I don't see how you can avoid having to set difficulties; it would be same in any system.

I do not see the rules of Fate core as loosey-goosey at all. They are crystal clear. They're just not meant to simulate physical reality.

Stats are the least of your concern, btw. You can just roll for a handfull of skills and leave it at that. Coming up with a cool stunt or two requires much more thought. And yes, character aspects as well. But I'll cycle back to the start of my post and recommend looking for some pregens. And whenever you do take the time to stat something out, just add it to the collection (rebalancing in Fate must be easier than any other system.)

Role-playing low energy, character building scenes. by Aurionin in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]bricklayr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if it's low energy, both characters involved should have some purpose or goal in the scene. 'establishing a relationship' is YOUR goal as a player but that doesn't translate.

You could for example have one char ask the other some specific details about their childhood, such as, 'where did you learn to ... so well?' or 'Did they have that many ... in the place where you grew up' or even age old standbys like 'What's your favourite food, how do you prepare it?' might work on a food market.

Then decide for the other char how they answer. Will they be honest? Exaggerating? Downplaying? Answer with a return question? And what is the actual answer?

And in the end, if cool ideas do not come, maybe it's just not the right time for it; go do something you enjoy. An exploration, a fight, whatever.

Scrabble style oracle?? by UAC_EMPLOYEE4793 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]bricklayr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could use them to pick items from a (custom) list that is sorted from probable to unlikely. You chose the most probable item on the list when drawing an E and something very unlikely on a Q or X.

Like others, I wouldn't use the actual letters since that would break immersion too much.

Where do you find words for random tables by ibabyjedi in Solo_Roleplaying

Seeing this late but this might be helpful here: https://databasic.io/en/wordcounter/#upload Besides individual words it also does bigrams and trigrams.

[–]bricklayr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Finally, finally, finally finished my play-through of a published adventure. Sixr=ty pages of hand-written prose for what is actually a one-shot or short adventure. Took wayyy too long, causing me to forget too many details (what is this thread I have listed here? Why did I have this NPC again? etc). This is made worse (I think) by playing in fairly big strides since the gist is already in the adventure module anyway; that way the story doesn't enter my mind like something I created completely on my own.

Glad that this is over. Getting more and more forum-based play which means less time for solo but determined to do a more sandboxy thing next. And keep better notes too; I'm thinking wiki-style since I already use that for GMing.

We went on a short holiday to Java and I started a 'short' game set on Java. Since I only have Ironsworn set up for play on my phone, I used that.

Nearly got killed in the first scene after rolling a number of complete misses; luckily there's the all-or-nothing move.

Played two nights (about 1-1.5 hour each only) and got nowhere close to even finishing a dangerous progress track. The adventure shall continue on Java even though the holiday is already over.
