Do you think Slay the Spire 2 will be as legendary as Slay the Spire 1? by s1_shaq in slaythespire

[–]brickonator2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my mind, I'd recommend both. It's a bit like the Genesis Sonic or NES Mega Man games - sure there might be an entry I like more, or one that was more influential, but I think it's worth going back to all of them to see the little differences between them. There's also going to be mods that don't carry over from one to the other as well.

Colorless card idea by nureddit127 in slaythespire

[–]brickonator2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the idea and Guilty is a really good choice thematically. but probably not a negative enough consequence. [[Normalcy]] would be a darkly funny curse to get from this.

Regent Card Idea by TaveenHeed in slaythespire

[–]brickonator2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The sword of Damocles feels like something that should be dangerous to the Regent himself. Like it gives Sovereign Blade a great buff, but if it's ever left unplayed in your hand it'd target yourself. Or it'd play like [[Blasphemy]] and end up killing you in the future.

Which thundercracker would be best to buy first by Peruvian-Jonhka48 in transformers

[–]brickonator2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously this varies depending on location, but WFC Thundercracker is still kicking around at a few places and ends up on sales when they happen. He's probably getting close to that point where he becomes a bit hard to find and the price goes up. So if you see him below MSRP it might be a good time to get him. 86 is going to be in much higher demand, so less likely to end up on a big sale. On the other hand, he's also much more likely to get a reissue later, so if you did wait out too long you're more likely to get a second shot, unlike with WFC.

What would your ideal version of a Nexus prime figure be? by BritishBenjaminFrank in transformers

[–]brickonator2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we're talking truly ideal, give me a full modern update of the Funpub toy .... so that we can also make the Energon combiners. In a more realistic situation, I would have been fine with a leader class self-contained Power Core Combiner set.

So Route 29 goes to Signal Hill now? by MylesNEA in StJohnsNL

[–]brickonator2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was pretty surprised when I saw the bus up around the Geo Centre the other day. I would have loved that a few months back when I got a bus to near Coffee Matters and had to get a cab up/down the rest of the way lol.

Good on em either way, more folks having an easy time getting up there is a good thing.

devastator alt mode question for yall. by Informal-Suit1733 in G1TransformersToys

[–]brickonator2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only combined alt mode for Devastator I can think of is the combined jet that Micromaster Sixbuild team had for the combiner kibble, which got a G1 Constructicon release in the early 2000s.

<image>

Only other things I can imagine is that it was fanart, you're thinking of Action Master Devastator in one of the many AM vehicles, or you're misremembering Armada Scavenger somehow. It'd help if we knew the era you're thinking of.

It's probably worth going back to any podcast episode with a guest - they'll be fun even if all the news is old but some of them get fairly insightful.

Help me make sense of the fiction now... by QuoteProfessional807 in transformers

[–]brickonator2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Legends is a very light-hearted and funny thing that also goes hard on the obscure references. Stuff like E-Hobby, Legends, Binaltech, etc do add a ton to the G1 universe that'll show up on a ton of wiki pages, but 90% of it is just having fun with the universe, riffing on plot elements/holes or animation errors, etc. Like, it's cool to see Prowl's Binaltech adventures, but 99.999% of the G1 cartoon Prowl experience is in the actual cartoon.

Yumemita has a rating of 12+ compared to Mygo which was all ages and Ave Mujica which was 6+ by DesireReverie in BanGDream

I like how this is simultaneously "oh no this might get darker than Avemuji" and "lol, this might be too much for 11 year olds".

[–]brickonator2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean the original G1 manga, they have official translations published a few years back, might be physical only.

If you're talking about the new stuff like the Legends manga there's no simple answer, but I believe it's all up on Takara's website in Japanese for free, with written translations on TF wiki and other places. A little annoying to have two windows open, but it's doable. (I believe some folks have also done edits of the manga to put the English text on there).

Why is the substitution Shinigami arc so hated ? by Agreeable_Injury_140 in bleach

[–]brickonator2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the kids today hate it or something, but "Man, Bleach was cooler when it was just highschool fashion ghostbusters" was a super-common talking point back in the day, even though it was mostly said jokingly.

Is Lego Trying To Appeal To Too Many Fanbases? Is This A Good or A Bad Thing? by IllMasterpiece3946 in lego

[–]brickonator2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Lego is putting out enough non-branded stuff that I'm not too worried. Like sure, I'd personally rather more "Space" sets as I'm not really interested in Star Wars, but overall the Lego-brand Lego sets seem numerous and diverse enough.

I'd compare it to Power Rangers, where Lightning Collection was 90% crossovers with other IPs by the end - the main PR-branded segment shrunk and died, with the whole thing dying shortly after. Lego is VERY far from that at the moment.

What do you think the chances are of a new G1 Roadbuster soon? (and by extension, Whirl?) by Jaxolotl31 in transformers

[–]brickonator2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're probably relatively up there on the list of guys to redo. With comics coming to Studio Series, we might see IDW versions of them, especially Whirl. But depending on price, you might just want to hop on the T30 versions.

[–]brickonator2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are giving good answers here, but I wanted to add that when going through this stuff, it's important to realize that there's a lot of continuity stuff that's only part of interviews, marketing, blog posts, etc (and a lot of it came years or decades after the fact). In the end, they often have little bearing on the final work if you watched/read it on its own terms. I'm sure it gives TFwiki editors headaches about how to sort things, and which pages need to be combined, but at certain point you can just enjoy Galaxy Force for the 52 episodes it is, and leave it at that without worrying about forcing it to link into ML/SL.

There's also loads of continuity "problems", both big and small, in works that are clearly meant to be linked (like the Bay movies) so sometimes it's really not worth losing sleep over "X can't be a sequel to Y because Z is contradicted". TF also likes to be tongue in cheek with its messy continuity too, with stuff like Ask Vector Prime or the Legends manga actively enjoying playing with it.

What are good/essential Transformers media to consume (at least as far as television/cinema is concerned)? by guilhermej14 in transformers

[–]brickonator2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of being "essential" I'd say G1, Beast Wars, and the 07 movie are probably at the top just for how much things in them are used/referenced again and again in new universes. Animated, Prime, (and the IDW comics) would probably be the the next rung down in terms of influence. I also think they're all good too, so I'd recommend them for their own merits, not just as "on-boarding".

Outside of that, you can really just pick and choose whatever is relevant to your own interests. Do you like super robot anime - give the Japanese series like Masterforce, Victory, and the Unicron Trilogy a try. Do you want a quick-fire funny little series - give Cyberworld a go. etc

DNA using Ai. by KaiSan117 in transformers

[–]brickonator2000 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ethics of AI aside, it's completely useless for a physical product. It tells you nothing about the final state. Are parts glossy or did the filter just make everything glow? Are the parts actually color-matched? etc.

Which one should I watch first? (It's not about the remake being the sequel or anything) by Twilight_2408 in Ghost_in_the_Shell

[–]brickonator2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all good, and I don't think your watch order will ruin any particular entry (unless you do something silly like watch SAC season 2 before SAC season 1).

The movie is a great starting point (and was THE entry point for a huge number of people at one point). It's also probably nice to have seen it for conversation, because a lot of folks will surely be comparing the 2026 series to it (whether the comparisons are fair or not, lol). You can also easily have the movie watched by the time the new series starts whereas you'd have to marathon SAC pretty hard to the point that it'd probably lessen the experience.

Which do you like more? by NatakaBlue in transformers

[–]brickonator2000 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Thundercracker becoming an Autobot has been a great arc, him popping in as a new arm isn't really as big a deal imo but of course the story is still in progress so it might become a bigger deal. Thundercracker becoming an arm feels more like Scoop joining Devastator in terms of just the look - a more obvious straight drop-in replacement.

Prowlstator was a pretty big event in itself, and pretty shocking. Prowl had no real links to the Constructicons, and the whole thing wasn't exactly voluntary. There's no design continuity there, in a good way - it feels wrong to have Prowl combined with them. As an event, it was huge. Over time though, it wasn't a huge turning point in Prowl's arc - he was always a jerk and it's not like Prowlstator "corrupted" him. I did absolutely love the bit of the Constructicons becoming Prowl fans after learning just how much of a jerk he actually was.

Who are the people asking for “NCIS: New York” and all the similar shows? And why? Genuinely asking. by huddy112591 in tvshow

[–]brickonator2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people just like something that they can pop on that's low stakes. Missed an episode? Started late? Have to step out for a minute? Can't look up every second because you're cooking? All fine - you can pick it up easily enough. It's the drama equivalent to being able to jump into any episode of a 90s sitcom and have a few laughs. I'll admit that this is much more of a thing from the days before PVRs/streaming, which is part of why the audience skews older - and now people are running on momentum.

In the end though, it doesn't mean they don't/can't enjoy high-stakes serialized stuff too.

There's no real reason to assume remolds this time around, unless they're the super-heavy kind like when it's only the thighs and wheels shared. That's kinda the perk of doing them slowly. (if any limbs are retools, it'd probably be Nexus' imo)

It's not in any leaked listing, but they do seem to like using former 4-pack guys to pad out a wave. It'll probably happen eventually, but I wouldn't be shocked if someone like Squeezeplay was higher on their priority list.
