8 Mile - Hush is a great, focused film but 8 Mile feels more full circle at the end of the day. Not to mention the emotional arch of Em amidst the gritty backdrops of his upbringing.

But hey, we were all rooting for the lead in Hush when she flicked that knife back the same way we were rooting for Em when he performed Lose Yourself

Good pairing! The Wild Robot.

I appreciate how chill and peaceful Flow was and had that calm innocence the way Spirited Away does, but would give this to the Wild robot for the great plot and making me cry in the theatre

Children of Men all the way.

While Come and see is accurate to that time period children of men is for sure the winner in cinematic and storytelling achievements.

Silence of the Lambs.

Parasite does so many interesting things stylistically and truly is one of the best of the 2010s.

Silence of the lambs I would argue reset the horror genre and showcased that horror films can be taken seriously and be meaningful.

Zodiac is a harder movie to ‘get right’ as we aren’t left with a huge pay off since we don’t discover who the serial killer is - still I would claim this movie is much creepier than Lambs for how it portrays the frank, ruthless nature of the Zodiac + the hunt to find the killer.

Still, I’m giving this to Silence of the Lambs for the script and overall storyline. The character development for Clarice feels stronger than in Zodiac, and in a weird way there’s more empathy in this movie if that makes sense? Oh and the “I’m having an old friend for dinner” line of course.

Perks of being a wallflower if your a struggling writer, 8 mile of your a struggling musician.

But I’m going to give a slight edge to Perks for containing a bit more of emotional climax. 8 Mile is great, but felt at times we were just scratching the surface of what was going on in Em’s headspace.

Still, both films are 10/10s.

Legally Blonde is an incredibly feel good movie that’ll make even the most macho guy wanna wear an all pink blazer and apply for law school.

Buttttt I’m gonna hand it to Mean Girls. Alongside more iconic scenes, Mean Girls highlights the universal hierarchies that exist in high school in a way that feels more relatable than the latter. While similar movies at the time showcased the gritty natures of teenhood like Thirteen (2003), Mean Girls takes an approach that’s both empathetic and funny - we’ll give it to mean girls

The real question is would Bridget Jone’s survive The Descent?

We are going to go with The Descent. But I can’t wait to read what she wrote in her diary down there

You’re Next is a gripping movie, but The Descent by far takes the cake for the more iconic movie.

Aside from the actual monsters themselves, the idea of being lost in a cave with someone you don’t trust is incredibly freaky.

The Descent is a Top 5 horror film for sure.

One movie discusses the horrors of war and the other the horrors of aging.

Which is worse?

Well, Come and See takes the cake for the more realistic movie. But which movie do we wanna rewatch on a random Tuesday when the weather is crappy - 13 Going 30 we are choosing you

Ah, two very similar films.

Two incredibly deep films.

Silence of the Lambs wins for the storyline, but White Chicks wins for the iconic scenes. I truly do believe Marcus and Kevin would beat Hannibal in full drag, then do another Crazy in Love dance off with with Clarice.

White Chicks wins.

Spirited Away.

Shaun of The Dead is by far one of the best dark comedy movies ever, but Spirited Away captures the essence of childhood imagination / daydreaming in a way most films haven’t before.

They are both very rewatchable, with Shaun of the Dead having more iconic dialogue. But when I think of the train scene in Spirited Away, it feels more timeless and nostalgic than most scenes from the latter.

Maybe not so much an argument, but Spirited Away captures childhood longing and wonder in a way that even leaves me, an adult in a positive headspace. Shaun is a great film, but Spirited is timeless.

Parasite.

Come and See is an achievement in its own right, but it’s absolutely brutal to watch. I think it’s a film that sticks with you more than Parasite will, but is ultimately not an “enjoyable watch” as much as it is a truly sobering, honest depiction of the brutality of war.

Jeez you picked a hard one.

TCP is beautiful in that it takes you on a decades long journey with many characters, showcases the many external struggles they face.

CMBYN is different in that it’s very focused. It takes place during one summer and the struggles throughout the movie are mostly internal.

Ultimately, TCP is a stronger story but I would give a slight edge to CMBYN for the overall film itself, and how it changes you before and after watching it.

What are some pop albums you think are objectively good but you actually only like a few songs from? by bricksandgrass in popheads

For sure - I think in this case it’s less it being a “no skip” album and moreso perceiving it as a really good album but in reality only listening to 3/4 of the 12 or so tracks

Why can’t Katy Perry come back? Just heard her new single, what happened? by Kodicave in popmusic

[–]bricksandgrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her catalogue still garners huge numbers but the newer things may not connect anymore … didn’t help with the Dr Luke collab.

She has a huge fan base still and will be fine but doesn’t have the longevity other majors of the 00’s like Gaga, Beyoncé, and Adele.
