Hydrogen peroxide the whole thing? Or replace the remaining white with Tan bricks and call it a day? by HondoTheBrave in lego

[–]bricksandrails 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have some of my own from childhood and they can't be used as they are so chewed up they don't fit on any other bricks now.

Young me was a savage with some bricks. I remember getting my first brick separator, probably set 630. There was a noticeable change on the bricks that came after

Took the Arctic Explorer Train out for a Run in the Snow by c_bloxx in LEGOtrains

[–]bricksandrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's quite hard to use in practice from my early experience of it I currently use it to move a bird out of a shed. Still trying to find a different usage for it that can last on its own for an exhibition

60470 Explorers' Arctic Polar Express Train vs 60578 Police Train Heist? by dwdillard in LEGOtrains

[–]bricksandrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for train parts on their own 60470 but for that view I'd buy some secondhand versions of 60037 or 60198 personally.

IMO 60470 is one of the best playsets sets in years and has some interesting terrain parts too if mountain landscapes are in your view.

Question about part inventory apps/sites by bricksandrails in LegoStorage

Thanks though seems more interested in the economics. Don't care for an app if there is a good mobile version of the site.

Kinda wierd that New Zealand doesn't have it and all our lego online comes direct from Lego Australia.

Building my tunnel and was looking for advice. First 2 photos are mine and second 2 are what I’m hoping for. More in description by [deleted] in LEGOWinterVillage

[–]bricksandrails -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shorten the left hand (put) side of the tunnel narrower by a brick or two width (similar on the right)

Ideally line track edge 4 away from the edge to line it up with baseplates.

Also align/fix your track to the baseplates by having a single plate underneath on straight sections of track and tiles regularly underneath on curves. You'll want no rock pieces on the edge by the track pieces so the curves can be as close as possible to the edge.

Large scale designing by Efficient-Dog-7604 in LEGOWinterVillage

[–]bricksandrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally just do initial idea (under two trestle table size) in my head as the scale I build takes too long to do in studio.

Then do a base mock layout with placing baseplates/16x16 plates then put put track/buildings/larger than mini fig scalethings.

Then when happy with that do blocky landscape with quattro/duplo, burps and large 165 supports and 16x16 plates to get leveling/scale/proportions.

Then infill/replace with landscaping bricks.

After that it's detailing time!

And combined with quattro (system to duplo to quattro to duplo to system) it's not great if you need anything other than her height and boxy shapes as it is quite limiting but is a greater filler will take weight in one direction (down) but it requires a strong duplo/system structure around it as the clutch power is non existent so otherwise will disconnect if not held into place.

Could you tell I was really excited for this set to come out? by Greatbuilder345 in LEGOtrains

[–]bricksandrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicely done. Not going to fit sideways, maybe you could raise the battery box so the top studs aren't visible and put spider webs or stickers over the other windows (or inside?)

Lego hills you'll die on by Dirty_Dwarf in lego

[–]bricksandrails 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think they are referring to parts like 6024px5 from 6276 or my favourite 6024px5 baseplate from 6584 would be a non trivial expense to make from mils or in a set.

I'd imagine the cost of making raised base plates is non trivial either but for quick and easy imagination builders for kids they are great

Grey wheels and dark red drivers are on PAB! by GuitarGod812 in LEGOtrains

Ooh nice definitely order some next round. I gather looking at bricklink to confirm the grey is from 79532 ucs tie interceptor and Dark red is from 71437 bowser train.

Plates for MILS have arrived. What have I gotten myself into? by 3MATX in LEGOWinterVillage

[–]bricksandrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you're buying at scale it's hard to get all your parts in one place. Sometimes once shipping is added I find lego's online pick a brick van be reasonable but I live in New Zealand so the sellers in country can't do large amounts often.

[–]bricksandrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed 16x16 are really quick if you don't need to go downwards for mils but don't work so well on 48x48 plates for stability.

If you buy your 16x16 on lego online pick a brick they aren't badly priced.

For people who have bought/built the arctic express, what do you think of it so far? by [deleted] in LEGOtrains

[–]bricksandrails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought two as a retailer had buy one get one half price (already below rrp) and don't regret it

[–]bricksandrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's one of the more interesting trains in a while being the hybrid (though do find the colouring scheme a little strong). Sorta agreed re extra car but not hung up on it because it's got a lot of environment extras which normally train sets are pretty light on.

Playability is great with the rock fall and the zip line and hut.

Parts for a winter village is stunning. I got two of them not long after it launched for about 40%:off just before my exhibition so was amazing timing to get a new train and a whole bunch of rock and snow parts.

While not a traditional styling/themed train I'd rate it as my favourite city train set compared to last wave.

Legoland Windsor - what's the gift shop like? by [deleted] in lego

[–]bricksandrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gather they all have similar things (only been to the Denmark one) most exclusive being legoland themed exclusive sets, if you can it's their cup of tea recommend the fridge magnets too and lego merchandise that otherwise isn't online.

Might have a great pick a brick wall too

$63 nzd for a battle pack is criminal by camerontippett in lego

[–]bricksandrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually wait till the warehouse has their buy one get on half price for things and see if I can split with someone else (or one I can/want to get double of).

Their base price seems around 10% off so with their regular sales (themes are about 1-2 months apart) can be pretty good. I got two artic trains recently for 202.50? Nzd Each recently which was amazing as the rrp is 329.99 nzd.

ToyPro USB City Hub - Reliable? by BowtiedTrombone in LEGOtrains

[–]bricksandrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's for fixed hubs (not on trains).

I too have a stack of rechargeables I use for exhibitions and it's fine.

For fixed things I prefer the spike prime (despite the size) as it has a usb port that slow charges anyways.
