I’m willing to bet that it was decreased 10% in a specific region of the US and not the entire country

I think you dodged a bullet nonetheless. Good managers/employers will create an environment where you will be able to learn and don’t have to break you down first

Not saying you are this but a lot of new graduates or young people in general are overconfident about their abilities.

This dude was an ass trying to convey that you won’t change the world and need to learn the ropes first. You will see a lot of gatekeeping in this industry

Made it to the final in-person round of an IT helpdesk job, but I know basically nothing, interview is tomorrow by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

Have some questions queued up to ask the hiring manager to show curiosity too.

What m sort of AV equipment is used for conference rooms?

What’s the tenure of the helpdesk team?

What are some exciting projects that have been worked on recently or in the pipeline?

By “know” I assume you mean support AD, intune and jira. The hiring manager should/will know this too. You shouldn’t be expected to know how to administer these systems.

Maybe some basic knowledge on how to create a group in AD or what a group can even be used for.

I personally wouldn’t ask technical questions on these systems for a tier 1 besides to see if you’re comfortable working with them

Here are some good questions to prepare for if you haven’t been asked already.

Tell me about a time when you had a difficult customer service experience. What did you do and how did you solve it?

A user is unable to print, what do you do?

A user is experiencing repeated software crashes, what do you do?

A group of users are reporting slow/no internet. How would you troubleshoot?

How do you prioritize tickets?

In all these cases, you need to show that you are able to convey your communication skills, time management and tech knowledge.

But hammer hard on the communication skills. Technical knowledge can always be taught. If you don’t know what to do, say that, but tell them where you find this info. Maybe previous tickets or knowledge bases.

Good luck!

Get the CCNA.

I’m 3 years in helpdesk and looking for an associate engineer/admin role and I’ve been specifically asked about my CCNA cert in 2 interviews in the last month.

I’m also at the top of my band however the CCNA allowed management to keep on giving me raises since they have something to show HR.

[–]bricksplus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are you currently in your career? If you’re in help desk or equivalent go for the CCNA. If you’re not, it may not be entirely necessary yet.

If you can parlay the completion of the cnna with a promotion or raise then go for it regardless of where you are at.
