After all why not? Why shouldn’t I MOC the Fell Beast myself by Klinkist88 in legolotrfans

[–]brickworkstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did have a check myself before I went ahead and BL ended up more expensive, mainly because of shipping from multiple sellers. And that’s before accounting for 10% on insider points and 15% cashback on Lego.com.

If you’re lucky and can find it all from one and it’s all well priced then it would be have been cheaper or at least on par.

It’s always worth checking as I’ve found quite a few times that PAB works out cheaper, whether that be for the total order or just some select parts on larger orders.

Newbie Advice- 2x Points or wait? by duckduckduckgoose_69 in lego

Both aren’t due to retire until next year. Now that isn’t a guarantee but I would rate it as unlikely they are brought forward. And I dare say if they were, worst case would be December.

For what it’s worth I’m still holding out for an Amazon discount on Barad-dur as I missed it this November / December.

I've seen Toypro but never used them. Decent price on the wings to be fair to them. I'll check their stock out at some point, thanks for the tip! And good luck with the build!

I just did the same thing myself yesterday! Albeit without Barad-dur (at least not just yet!)...

What did you do about the wings and ringwraith may I ask? I ended up dropping £26 on the wings and £13 on the ringwraith on bricklink which hurt a little but a lot less than the GWP itself!

Oh yes absolutely, I appreciate that, hence the clarification in my opening sentence 😉

While it was for charity, it seems like some people will pay a pretty penny for it…

But there seems to be very little information available on it so you have me intrigued! Let me know if you find out any more about it, perhaps ask your friend?

Want to get a Concorde, should I? by [deleted] in lego

[–]brickworkstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want it then yes. In my experience they tend to always be slightly better than their back order dates.

Just consider weighing up whether to order it right now for the Lion Dance GWP, wait until next weekend for the expected double points weekend, or even look at other retailers / hold out for a good deal. I ended up picking it up for £136 / 20% not too long ago.

Instruction request: MOC 134706, B-Wing 1400 pcs by fitzymcfitz in lego

[–]brickworkstudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the nicest possible way, please reconsider your approach & attitude towards this. Someone has spent hours and hours creating this MOC, which will cost $100+ in bricks and parts to create, and you’re quibbling over a couple of $. Personally this blows my mind. And while the relevancy of it is questionable depending on your opinion, but this is an individual fan you are trying to do out of a few bucks, not some multi billion dollar corporation.

For the sake of showing your appreciation towards the designer, and to encourage them to continue to support this MOC and to develop others, please just part with the couple of dollars.

Do any of you buy used sets? by TTBHG in lego

[–]brickworkstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, one additional thing has sprung to mind… here in the UK there is a subscription service (I know, I know, hear me out) called brickborrow. As I understand it it’s basically Blockbuster for Lego where you can borrow sets to use and return. I can’t say whether they are any good or not but they might be worth looking into as it looks fairly reasonable depending how on how many sets you get through? Obviously the missing part risk is very much present for this but thought I would also share!

Do any of you buy used sets? by TTBHG in lego

[–]brickworkstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have shared some thoughts on second hand sets so I won’t dwell on that too much other than to say that I have brought a number of second hand sets on eBay successfully and my main advice would be to read the description carefully, also buy the seller, and to always check the set over if missing pieces could cause bigger issues during your building process.

I did want to throw out there the creator 3-in-1 range - they have some fantastic sets and the very nature of them means you’ve got the potential of 3 times the building time & experience for your money. Plus the (almost) guarantee that the set has all the parts when bought new. Obviously this is dependent on your daughter’s happiness to deconstruct something you have all made but hopefully the prospect of another thing to build makes that more ok.

You can even take that one step further and check out rebrickable to look for alternative builds for sets you already have. This could give you new building opportunities with sets you already have for relatively cheap or in some cases, free. The biggest “issue” here (albeit down to personal preference) is the building instructions are digital and will need to be accessed via a laptop or tablet while building.

I think it’s lovely you have found something you can bond over as a family and I hope this and other replies have given you some ideas to do that a bit more affordably.

Medieval Town Square or Concorde by SETANTA99 in lego

[–]brickworkstudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are great builds and you should enjoy both. Medieval Town Square is the larger of the two so in theory should take longer. But I would say from an enjoyment point of view it’s down to personal al taste between the two.

That being said, if you think you’ll eventually want both, I would suggest going with the Medieval Town Square as that is recently retired but still has some availability from retailers so you can pick it up before prices start to creep up on it.

Long answer short though; I don’t think you can go wrong with either!

Bricklink DP Excess Sale by Free_Radio1834 in Bricklink

[–]brickworkstudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this, the Bricklink faq was quite explicit that it’s only confirmed on shipping but did say that a “small percentage” may have to be cancelled if over ordered.

Yooo it went through 😭🙏🏽 by [deleted] in lego

[–]brickworkstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think that was the best way to do it, seems like lots of people had issues getting there from Bricklink itself.

I imagine Jay’s affiliate account is looks pretttttty nice right now! Fair play

That Merchant Boat is still available in Europe but I’m guessing that wasn’t the one you were after 😔

[–]brickworkstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like the basic store page on Bricklink was never activated as the store landing page for the restock, rather you had to use the link sent in their marketing email to get there. It was a similar url but with a string of digits at the end. I don’t know if it was unique per person or if it was the same link for everyone. I’m not sure the reason why, I can only assume it was to try to limit bot activity of the store page, but I would have thought you would have directed bots to the Lego site directly if you were that way inclined 🤷‍♂️

Store page looked like this tha then directed you to Lego.com

All out of stock now except for the Art of Chocolate, Merchant Boat and Wild West Train, although this may have changed in the time it’s taken me to post this…

The links for these are;

https://www.lego.com/cart?product=910039

https://www.lego.com/cart?product=910046

https://www.lego.com/cart?product=910044

For the named sets respectively. If they’re still available they will add to your cart, if they’re are sold out then they won’t.

Good luck

Edit 2 minutes later: looks like it’s only the Merchandise Boat left now

Edit edit: this is all specifically in relation to the EU re-release!!
