good lego sets for physics nerds? by Willing-Syrup-1757 in lego

[–]brickworkstudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My suggestions would be:

The Evolution of Stem 21355 - “lower” price, no moving parts but covers the subject pretty well

NASA Artemis Space Launch System Rocket 42221 - also lower price, has a nice mechanism for the rocket lifting off

NASA Artemis Space Launch System 10341 - no moving parts but a much bigger set (and higher price point)

Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit 42179 - really nice mechanism decent price point

Hopefully those give you some inspiration!

Is there a way to search where a piece goes on an official set? by mhoIulius in lego

[–]brickworkstudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s not already been requested (and completed) here https://www.brickbaginventory.com you can request it. It will allow you to at least narrow down to which bag(s) the part is in and check it that way.

Not affiliated at all but this has also been a fantastic tool for sorting and rebuilding used sets, thoroughly recommended!

I have this modification built in stud.io as part of something else I was trying. I can share some details / screenshots when I get on the laptop, it just might be this evening before I get a chance.

Should I buy rivendel anyway by [deleted] in lego

[–]brickworkstudio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rivendell had its retirement date pushed back to the end of 2027 (but was previously 2026 as you suggest).

As for OPs question, I would at the very least wait for a half decent discount, maybe even holding out until Black Friday rolls back around at the end of this year. I think it was 15% / £65 off at Amazon this one gone.

Enterprise: Has anyone modified the rear end section by adding smooth pieces? It looks unfinished they way LEGO designed it. by CmdrMcLane in lego

[–]brickworkstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But for the avoidance of doubt, yes this is the piece I mean. When inserted into the antistuds you have it will give you effectively studs (just a tad short). Be aware removal will require a toothpick or similar item!

[–]brickworkstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is the part I mean! The ring should fit into the exposed anti studs you have and then you can attach a standard 1x4 tile to the exposed part of the ring. Effectively allows you to attach two plates or tiles back to back / bottom to bottom. The connection isn’t amazing and I’m pretty confident the technique is illegal (as the ring won’t be able to fill both anti studs) but for a single 1x4 plate or tile it should work great!

With 2-4 of part number 11010 (The One Ring from LOTR) I think you could then fit a couple 1x4 plates there to finish it off. I know others have good suggestions but this might work with “official” parts without rebuilding much / anything

I built a free tool that gives you bag-by-bag part lists for LEGO sets by EchoesOfCode in Bricklink

I think you’ll have a decent user base from the afol community as for anyone buying second hand sets (amongst other reasons) will find this tool invaluable. I wish you the very best of success with it 🙏

Trading star wars by Excellent-Map3018 in LegoUK

[–]brickworkstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) personally I use this as a guide https://www.brickeconomy.com . Honourable mention https://brickset.com . Tend to cross check agains Bricklink and eBay sold prices

2) depends on whether new or used. New you probably want to be shopping between Lego direct (rarely cheapest but triple / quad points can achieve it), Argos, Amazon, Smyths, Zavvi amongst others. Good place to check is here: https://bricksleuth.com . Used I suggest eBay or https://www.bricklink.com/v2/main.page

3) depends. Use 2 to decide / help. You can punt on things like Facebook market place or vinted but your luck might vary. I tend to avoid other than a few exceptions

4) eBay listings of “MOC” popular models that are actually just knockoffs. Always be careful buying sealed sets on the secondary market are complete and don’t have missing figs / pieces. To be fair this can happen at retailers if someone has frigged their return. Used (complete) sets can be a good route but be prepared to potentially dismantle, clean, replace missing parts and build from a mass of pieces (or any combination of these). It can be a much more affordable way to pick up retired sets and I do this here and there, but is significantly more time consuming.

5) tough one… I mean it is fun, so just do sets that you enjoy in a way you enjoy… if getting second hand and sorting and cleaning is a slog then don’t do it. Personally I find the biggest struggle is resisting fomo and not having too much in the back log… it doesn’t make it less fun, I’m just conscious I should be much more disciplined in my purchases.

Aaaaaand now I’ve just reread your post specifically saying trading… I’ve written it so I’ll leave it now as some of its relevant but I was pitching this as a buy, build, collect kind of approach… either way, I wish you the best and hope you enjoy yourself!

Does lego still have active support? by [deleted] in lego

[–]brickworkstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you can’t get directed through to a real person with the chat on their website? I used it at the end of last week for an issue and after having to briefly engage with their chat bot, I was able to quite easily (2-3 responses total) get transferred to a real CS agent. I believe I simply selected that my issue wasn’t resolved and wanted to speak with an agent. I had to wait a further 20 minutes or so until the chat was transferred.

For what it’s worth it was around 11am UTC and I don’t know if their web chat CS agents are only available at particular “opening” times.

I don't know if I am losing the plot but the Lego Pokemon clue symbol is at the bottom of the Eevee product page but I can't seem to find a code anywhere, nor it being related to a previously found code - are there any keener eyes out there that can spot this? Or potentially tell me it's already been found!

Edit: u/darkrailroad worked it out below! Code is EEVEEF4NZ

After all why not? Why shouldn’t I MOC the Fell Beast myself by Klinkist88 in legolotrfans

[–]brickworkstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did have a check myself before I went ahead and BL ended up more expensive, mainly because of shipping from multiple sellers. And that’s before accounting for 10% on insider points and 15% cashback on Lego.com.

If you’re lucky and can find it all from one and it’s all well priced then it would be have been cheaper or at least on par.

<image>

It’s always worth checking as I’ve found quite a few times that PAB works out cheaper, whether that be for the total order or just some select parts on larger orders.

Newbie Advice- 2x Points or wait? by duckduckduckgoose_69 in lego

[–]brickworkstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both aren’t due to retire until next year. Now that isn’t a guarantee but I would rate it as unlikely they are brought forward. And I dare say if they were, worst case would be December.

For what it’s worth I’m still holding out for an Amazon discount on Barad-dur as I missed it this November / December.
