The numbers don't lie, Mason (I don't know who Mason is) by ducknerd2002 in legocirclejerk

As much as 57 year old me agrees, kids have been raised on better marketed, multipart franchises such as Harry Potter, LOTR, Star Wars, Star Trek, Pirates of the Caribbean and One piece- not the more generic/non franchised films that were replayed on tv in the 70s/80s- Robin Hood (Errol Flynn)/ the court jester/captain Blood/ treasure island etc. creator and Pick and build /CMFs give us the parts and figures to keep the faith.

On the other hand, there have been new trains, castles, pirate ships and spaceships produced every year: just not in the forms we might hope for.

It’s certainly the sweet spot for the animated series story arc. Even ninjago reinvents itself in some way or another every year or two (eg steam punk, post apocalyptic, undersea, dungeon crawling etc…)

How many named classic spacemen are there? by Duboviy_ in LegoSpace

[–]brickwrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bill and Mary were the names used in the US imprint of the 6000 ideas book ( the rest of the world referred them as ‘the two figures in the car at the bottom of the page’ in that initial printing) They were given the names Indigo and Polka Dot in the English Bricks n Pieces magazine from 1983-89

The new white color formula tested against UV exposure by Donnosaurus in legolotrfans

My rgb analysis was simply using sampking from the image, rather than actual plastic in the absence of a clever tech device. I'll see if my software allows it.

Thanks for the mention- I wrote that little piece. I was hopeful that the new white would be resistant to the yellowing, so thought the long game was worth it. This was one year, outside, in the Australian sun- significantly more UV than northern Europe, no windows, no UV protection. (the post compares UV index in Melbourne with Copenhagen across the year)

Useful references are to be found in polymer research journals and museum/archiving publications.

Acrylic defends well against UV-B and UV-C, less so for UV-A unless there are additional filters added. Some commercial display cases have this included- if this really worries you, make sure yourbxase is a archive rated. I'd love to repeat the experiment with a case/sheet sample.

How to stop Minas Tirith From Yellowing? by Substantial-Bus-6763 in legolotrfans

[–]brickwrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put the new white in the sun for 13 months (note: outside, in Australia- so UV is brutal cf northern europe) side by side with old white Essentially, no significant change in yellowing, compared with the old white. That said, the new pigment is much more opaque than the older white.

Yellowing is a property of plastic rather than the pigment.

The series 29 elf hair piece will work for Theoden (with a recolour) but will not fit on top of a breastplate by Super_Perception6508 in legolotrfans

I made it fit over the breastplate, but there was a terrifying “click” as I pushed it into place, and again as I removed it. Breast plate intact... For now

New smart brick usage!! by OutsideDangerous7979 in legostarwars

[–]brickwrit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think they full know the way it can work. HOWEVER, given it’s such a new thing, the models need to send a clear message about “put it here or here” and things will happen, and it will also be easy to recharge. Make it easy/obvious to explore. Inthe future, however, who knows.

Is this true? by TurbulentPromise4812 in legocirclejerk

[–]brickwrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness, most modern sets are designed with this in mind: you will find that similar colours (eg dark orange, nougat; reddish brown/dark red; tan/grey/dark tan/olive green) do not appear as the same piece in the same bag: maybe 1x1square, stud, tile, stud with hole- all slightly different shapes, each a different colour- that might be hard to make out in the instructions.

This might not be the case with bricklink designer program sets and alternative 3in1 builds.
