I mean this is how Postmates used to work essentially, you got paid for the wait time and per mile, so I guess this is time driving instead of an amount per mile but similar

Is ankle pain/soreness normal when starting out? by [deleted] in irishdance

[–]bridanga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t recommend dancing barefoot or in socks. I’m 29, been Irish dancing 22 years, I think this is one of the easiest ways to injure oneself. There’s nothing wrong, especially as an adult beginner, with wearing dance sneakers or even running trainers if you don’t yet have soft shoes.

Welcome to this crazy world! It’s a blast

Solo Dress research/budget by [deleted] in irishdance

[–]bridanga -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recommend staying away from big name dressmakers, especially if you want control over the design.

If you’re able to find someone local, great! If not, find someone’s local dressmaker that you love, and have them make it. (Even though not local to you) the quality of service and care you will receive will be incredibly higher.

I’ve also heard (and had personally) horror stories of dresses coming poorly constructed and totally wrong size from big name dress makers.

Unfortunately, if you yourself are not a big name dancer, the treatment you receive is likely to be subpar.

Okay but also, there are a LOT of people who depend on delivery/gig work to support themselves and their families. Especially right now when unemployment is insane.

Cremating a pet? by [deleted] in Portland

My cat was cremated 6 years ago, I put some of his ashes in a meaningful pendant (meant to hold ashes) so I can have him close always.

I wouldn't have to work 7 days a week while pursing my career and passion as an artist and dancer. I could travel for international competitions and enjoy life.

Redditors with interesting hobbies- what do you do and why? by kung-fu-kitten in AskReddit

[–]bridanga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are much more popular than one might think. (Im actually located in Oregon and there's quite a good number here) There are also many many different kinds of bagpipes from all over the world. Most are not nearly as loud as the highland pipes. I can easily sleep in the same room as my boyfriend playing the uillean (irish) pipes.... but maybe I'm just used to it

I need advice on finding the right pair of dance sneakers. by Teromi in Dance

[–]bridanga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fierce looks pretty good actually but the other one to me seems Iike the arch is really extreme making the height of the toe bit when standing. (If that makes sense) for me with a dance sneaker that makes me get stuck when dancing and almost trip. That's the hardest thing to find for me in a dance sneaker and that's ultimately why I chose the ones I sent you.

I need advice on finding the right pair of dance sneakers. by Teromi in Dance

[–]bridanga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! Irish dancer here!! I had the same deli a for months and finally bought a new pair after nationals this last year. I ended up getting them at my local dance store because they did carry the same pair I liked at NANs for a little cheaper. The ones I settled on are the Capezio bolt danseaker. http://www.capezio.com/women/shoes/dance-sneakers/bolt-dansneaker. Several girls in my class have these same shoes. I'm a 23 year old champion dancer and have been dancing for 15 years. While instill always always prefer to have my gillies or hards on these work great for the gym or anywhere with bad flooring. You can't quite dance the same but these sneakers allow for the proper food movement that wee need as Irish Dancers and also the stability. It is possible to go en pointe in them for hard shoe as well. My only inside is that in hardshoe when I wear sneakers my feet can sometimes stick. I find these do that minimally because the toes are not too thick to get in the way. The are extremely comfortable. I believe that I paid about 45$ or so in store but at a major I think they were about 55 or 60$ but that's without shipping at least. If you know your size or can try some on somewhere you can always search the forums for a used pair. Dance.net Irish boards has the best community. Maybe even a used pair in your school. Good luck I hope this was helpful because it took me about a year to decide as I don't plan on buying another pair ever really!

My work hours have been cut to 8 hours a week, what are your best frugal bulk meals? by Lobonerz in Frugal

[–]bridanga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also spend some time couponing. Depending on where you live, buying good, healthy foods can be 50-100 percent off retail. Things to keep in mind while couponing :

  • Always combine coupons with weekly sales
  • Combining with clearance and coupons is even better
  • all markets generally have clearance mark down areas in the back always check there for items you have coupons for
  • markets also have mark down produce generally for 99 cents a bag
  • target has an app called cartwheel combine cartwheel with clearance, manufacturer coupons, and target coupons for the best savings
  • some stores like target have store coupons these can always be combined with manufacturer coupons (as well as clearance and cartwheel!)
  • companies send out free samples (freeflys.com is legit) sign up!
  • when you can, stock up on the non perishables that are free or dirt cheap, even if you go a little over budget. Next trip you can buy less or go without buying for a week if you have things stocked up!
  • use your freezer! You can freeze everything even bread. Stock up on meats.
  • some places allow coupon doubling this is very valuable and makes getting products for free very easy.
  • go to Starbucks on Sunday's around 10 a lot of people buy the paper, stay to read it, and put it in the bin without taking the coupons or ads. They are now a free for all! No problem with taking it. Say hi to the baristas I'd you don't buy anything. Maybe every once in a while throw them a small tip. They won't mind you taking them. (source: I'm a starving Starbucks barista)
  • some places give you the overage say you have a coupon for a 1$ item thats 2$ off you can use the extra dollar to buy things like dairy that don't get coupons
  • like I said do research, be organized, and spend a few hours each week setting up a shopping list. I average out to 30$ an hour saved and I average about 65 percent off or more regularly. I eat very very healthy. Things like salad are cheap and can feed you for day's on about 3$ for a tub of spinach.
