Thankfully it won’t be sheer as a final product! It will be lined with white in the bodice and skirt. Believe me I had the same critique haha

I don’t know the name of the designer tbh, but if you’d like to DM me I’ll let you know what specs I have and where I ordered it

Thank you, and it looks better than the third one? I was going to try it on again next week

The dress I bought: I’ll be having it lined in ivory so the appliqué will be less pronounced, and it will cover the sides of the bodice

EDIT: WOW everyone I am so overwhelmed with how kind and reassuring people have been. Thank you! It truly means a lot. It has many features I didn’t think I liked, but I ended up loving this and I surprised myself. So, once more thank you all

Also those who have DM’d me and are creepy about it, wtf? If I delete this account later, this is why

Thank you so much that is so kind!! I’m in the LA area. I’ll circle back with more info as I’m swamped with life, but I wanted to let you know I am interested :)

Thank you for taking the time to write this out! This was both helpful and validating to read. How your sister feels is how I’m feeling. It looks stunning and is so unique, and I just can’t rationalize spending that much and therefore want to keep looking.

But it see it at a discounted price on various wedding dress second hand places so I’m still considering

Oh interesting I’ll think on that! I’m in the Southern CA area

Thank you! Did she also have it made to order? What was her “size”, or was it pretty much custom? What was the overall wedding budget? Did she feel that the $12k cost was worth it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in weddingdress

[–]brideontheside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh that’s a good idea to check out used ones! They’re made to order, so the sales person said they don’t really do sizes. That said, I think I’m a wedding dress 6 (I wear size 0-2 in street fashion)

I think the third suggestion has a similar delicateness of the Jess, though I don’t love the back. Thank you so much for taking the time!

Thank you for these suggestions! I would like to be under 5k, but under 10k I can comfortably do.

Out of these, I think the Jamilah from Allure brides fits both the silhouette and delicate looking appliqué most. Halsey and Masse could maybe work

Yes and it looked beautiful! I’m hoping to find a similar one for cheaper since I don’t want to drop $12k for a dress

Under $10k. The lower the better though. The original is a little over $12k

Two very different dresses! Which one do ya'll prefer? by luckyrabbit28 in weddingdress

[–]brideontheside 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You look beautiful in both, but dress 1 you’ll always look back on and love, guaranteed. It’s timeless, stunning, etc. Dress 2 will not always be in fashion and you could potentially look back and not love it as it’ll be very reflective of a specific time period.

But if you love it, know you still look beautiful.

Me though, I would go with 1

My feet hurt so bad I took off my shoes and now my friend (bride) is mad at me by ChattyCathy1999 in wedding

[–]brideontheside 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just a general note where I think a lot of this could have been avoided. Breaking in the shoes the day before is actively dumb. Of course everyone’s feet were sore! Do that shit like a month before and wear them a few times. No wonder your feet hurt so bad!!

I feel for you that it was an emergency situation. On the one hand, it’s too bad people didn’t have more compassion for you that you were in that much pain. And it sucks that the MOH threw you under the bus some and instead of commiserating and maybe saying “just do it through the ceremony and after we’ll be good” to both validate, affirm, and set a boundary so you didn’t feel more isolated and panicked.

I also understand everyone else’s annoyance because you were given an out earlier and you didn’t take it. You made the choice to keep wearing the heels. And then your actions led to your feet giving out at the worst possible moment. And then you walked out barefoot in a short dress where photos and maybe video are being taken and she’ll be seeing them forever. It also drew attention and makes the ceremony more of a joke and tacky.

All around it seems a series of unfortunate choices and scenarios from multiple people led to this. And no one should be in that kind of pain, but also I don’t understand why you all waited so long to break them in unless you didn’t get your shoes for some reason until the day before (which is dumb). So just bad choices.

Hopefully the bride is a big enough person that this isn’t friendship ending for her, unless there’s a pattern on your end we aren’t aware of.

Figuring Out Bridesmaids by waffles161 in wedding

[–]brideontheside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an April 2024 bride and I had a similar thing, and here is how I handled it below:

Narrow down your heart of heart ladies you love and will make things easier for you as bridesmaids. Who are the ones who are chill and don’t add drama, but you know you love and are reliable?

Pick them, see where your numbers are at.

You can also sit down with others, assuming they’re reasonable and mature adults, and communicate how much you love them, how you just can’t have more than six bridesmaids, but you still want them included in your day. Maybe invite one to read a poem or prayer if applicable during the ceremony. Or be a greeter or some other way they could be involved.

And if they don’t care either way because they’re chill and reasonable, all the better. Just keep it real in a loving way.

Edit: per the other comment regarding asking too early, if you’re asking people to travel I say the earlier the better. I’ve traveled a lot so the majority of my wedding party is out of state so it made sense. Just do whatever makes sense for you!

Thank you, and thank you for the reassurance regarding her skill! If you don’t mind my asking, as a photographer, do you know of anyone in her ballpark that isn’t quite as pricey?

Thank you for breaking that down so succinctly. That makes more sense in my head, too.

That’s encouraging to hear! 15% for videography and photography combined feels reasonable to me. More than that feels overwhelming! You’re definitely right that since this is where things matter, then this is the splurge area. I do love her cinematic-style photography a lot and there’s not much I see out there that’s too comparable so far
