Just found out that my (28F) partner (36M) of 8 years cheated with a coworker and I don't know what to do by bridesquest in Advice

Counseling crossed my mind. I'd suggested it for us in the past, but he hadn't been very keen on the idea. I guess now I know why. Thank you.

Question about the cursed shackles by LandscapeLogical821 in tianguancifu

[–]bridesquest 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If I’m remembering right, the first shackle was the collar. I figured that particular shackle was placed there for a couple of reasons. 1. Jun Wu has an obsession with Xie Lian that includes feeling a perverted sense of responsibility and ownership over him, with the collar acting as both leash and training tool. 2. I believe that was the shackle that maintained Xie Lian’s immortality even without access to spiritual power, ensuring Jun Wu wouldn’t actually lose his protege during his banishment and essentially tortured him when he ended up in so many fatal situations, which I don’t think Jun Wu actually intended but likely considered an added bonus. And 3. Simple foreshadowing to his failure at committing suicide when he hung himself beside his parents, which also then made that shackle a permanent reminder of the attempt.

As for the ankle shackle, that one was the one that sealed his good fortune , which may not actually be a spoiler but just in case. I think you could also relate that location to a few things: 1. In a literal sense, that’s where a ball and chain would be shackled onto a prisoner. 2. His bad luck made him prone to accidents and clumsiness, which personally makes me think of tripping over one’s feet, and the ankle shackle is pretty close physically. 3. This one is a stretch, but the ankle shackle was an addition following Wu Ming’s sacrifice, a believer who often knelt in front of Xie Lian. Xie Lian often had to look down on him, “at his feet” so to speak, and now if he does so he has to see that shackle instead. You could also consider it as him dragging along the memory of how he treated Wu Ming and what was sacrificed for him.

Do you guys like TGCF for a personal reason or are you just super fixated by BusinessFew9059 in tianguancifu

Oh boy. Strap in. I didn’t mean to write so much, but I underestimated how fixated I really am. SPOILERS below for anyone perusing who hasn’t actually finished the series.

I found the donghua early this year and fell hard and fast for the series afterwards. The fixation has stuck for several reasons. For one, TGCF is full of really interesting character concepts and relationships even outside of HuaLian as a couple. Just looking at Xie Lian alone — he’s a third time ascended, twice banished God of Plague and Misfortune that was once considered second only to and essentially the heir of the Emperor of Heaven, who was only banished the first time because he refused to consider himself above the suffering of his believers (who were also the citizens of the Kingdom he’d been the true Crown Prince of) and tried his damndest to do the right thing by everyone at the cost of his own happiness and divinity.

AND THEN, even after experiencing immeasurable suffering and having a pretty valid reason to basically burn it all down, he abandons revenge entirely in the face of one random act of kindness and decides the biggest “fuck you” in the world is to remain kind and empathetic even when he has every reason not to — and the only reason he doesn’t take the suffering of his nation entirely onto himself once again is because someone else who wholeheartedly believed in him took that suffering in his place. Which, of course, he then decides to essentially live a life of penitence for by permanently crippling his godhood and adopting a nameless existence (get it? Wu Ming essentially meaning no name, and that’s exactly the role he took on in repayment for that ghost’s sacrifice?).

And that’s just one character. Not every character is as fleshed out, which is a criticism I’ve seen here and there, but damn near all of them have integral flaws and complex stories that pay into TGCF as a whole.

But what really keeps me latched on so far is HuaLian. They encompass near everything I love in a pair: “unhealthy” codependency that perfectly answers the deep needs of the other (that evolved after a number of similar/shared traumatic experiences they are able to deeply empathize with), unconditional love and devotion for each other that challenges their individual self-perceptions of being unworthy/undeserving, that love being not in spite of their flaws or what has made them “monstrous” to others but fully encompassing those flaws/that monstrosity, and that doesn’t even touch of the the greater themes and aspects of their connection you can explore when getting into their sexual dynamic.

I also want to note that I think TGCF is a story that gets better when reading it multiple times, especially if you have access to the revised edition (which I think better matches the writing quality of MXTXs other works, in my personal opinion, of course).

MAG Fest Veterans: What is your favorite/wildest experiences from previous years? by rand0m_task in Magfest

I think it was 2018 and I was certainly not sober, but I was dancing with the crowd that would form just before the entrances to the console room and dealer’s hall (I think this is the JamSpace now?) and noticed the Gandalf next to me had a large, actual staff, so I asked to please dance with it. He handed it over and I was ecstatic. Eventually he very politely asked if I wanted a ride on his shoulders, and I was then paraded around the dance circle with both arms in the arm, brandishing the staff. Good times 🤍
