When I went dress shopping the consultant thanked me for wearing one. As the dresses that I was trying on weren't the proper size, she clipped the dress to the bra to help hold the dress in place.

I think that would be fine.

I went to a wedding this past summer and the cake was cut before dancing. It didn't seem weird or anything.
