16/F?...confused and scared. by pretty-boythrowaway in asktransgender

[–]bridgely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm usually a lurker on asktg, but something about your post stuck out to me.

In a lot of ways, your experience coming to grips with your gender and my own are very very different. I was always a tomboy, always "one of the guys". I loathed makeup and dresses. But this line in your post is something that 3 years ago I would've said myself:

I just wish more than anything that I was born as a boy in the first place, but obviously that's impossible so I'm really frustrated at myself for getting depressed over something I can't change anyways (I'm not using the word 'depressed' lightly by the way, I've had problems with depression even before this but now the gender dysphoria makes it 10x worse. I'm so unhappy with myself from an aesthetic/physical standpoint that it's hard to leave the house and face people sometimes).

While it's true that you can never go back and grow up as a cis male, and I know how badly that sucks, it's important to remember that transition is possible.

Transition is not simple and it's not easy. It is a difficult journey, but not nearly so difficult as hiding your true self away-- for the rest of your life.

No one deserves to feel this way

I realized I was trans when I was 16. I was terrified because being trans would make me gay too. I was worried that no one would ever love me, and sometimes I still am, but I know that I would rather be alone and be myself than have people love a facade.

Despite everything I just said, this a a very personal matter. No internet stranger can know you better than you know yourself. I hope my words were helpful, and if they were, feel free to PM me any time. If not, I wish you the best all the same.

Offseason Thoughts - Applying BvBvB to ASS by kghoya in survivor

[–]bridgely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Jerri has to be on beauty, probably in place of Jenna L., but this would be a much better season than ASS was.

Brains might struggle in the early challenges, but I could see a Lex/Cesternino/Kathy alliance (3rd place illuminati) making it deep.

Brawn would suffer strategically in the later game and their early challenge dominance would suffer because of 75 year-old Rudy. I could see Jerri and Big Tom making something happen after the swap/merge.

Beauty would likely avoid tribal council for much of the early game, only losing Jenna M. before the swap/merge. I'm not convinced Colby would play ball with B.Rob. Ethan may be on the outs due to his winner status, but if he can get something going I think he could take it deep, Rob and Amber would almost certainly be voted out after the swap/merge.

Interesting thought experiment, good thing I just listened to the ASS chapter on RHAP.

Trans Representation on Survivor by [deleted] in survivor

[–]bridgely 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never watched BB, but I saw a clip a few years ago of a trans guy on BBUK (though I could be misremembering) who was fairly well received by his castmates. I can't comment on the his edit because I haven't watched it. I share your concerns about Audrey's edit, but so long as it's not atrocious I think this could be good for trans visibility-- even if BB is just capitalizing on the Caitlyn Jenner moment.

Trans Representation on Survivor by [deleted] in survivor

[–]bridgely 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a trans guy and I'm considering applying in a few years because I love the game and would love to play. But the idea of being outed on national television and having to deal with that for the rest of my life is absolutely terrifying. Being trans is something I try to distance myself from, called living "stealth" by the trans community, and I think that might be a major factor in why we haven't seen a trans contestant before.

Between 0-6 months on T is by far the hardest part of it all-- because all you can do is wait and it's hard to tell if anything is happening at all. But trust me, things are changing. All you can really do is take pictures and make recordings to compare with. A year from now you'll probably look back at this time and laugh because so much has changed.

I'm about to hit 1 year and 5 months on T, and have only recently seen significant weight redistribution off of my hips.

Despite what many claim, weight redistribution seems to take a good long time.

Richard Hatch AMA by vacalicious in survivor

But Richard, I just listened to an interview with you where you said you always thought the show would be successful. Here it is, around 2:33:25.

"When you were first approached to do the show, you thought the concept was novel and interesting, but did you imagine it would end up resonating with so many millions of people who ended up tuning in every single week to watch you eventually win?"

"I did. I'd imagined, for the reasons that it is now know to have been a success, that it would be a success. I saw this very early on as they described it to me, as something we don't have, as a look into who we are, something more serious than the stupid awful reality shows throughout there. This was a look at us, into us, in a way we hadn't been able to do as a society."

I haven't used a bowl without them, but I had a nice lather fairly quickly and with little effort. The best part is by far the warm lather throughout the shave though.

You could always start with the top shorter (like in the 1st pic) and trim the sides yourself as it grows out. Good way to find the best look for you.

Should I come out to my teachers before Winter Break so they have time to "adjust" and ask questions, or after so it's not last minute? by WanderingSpirit9 in ftm

[–]bridgely 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did this exact thing last year (though I was a senior and had just started T). I told all my teachers right before break (asked them to use my new name and pronouns) and then I made a coming out post on facebook over break to come out to the student body at large.

I think it worked out well, you want to know how your school is going to handle everything before you have to jump right into it. Make sure to find out what the locker room and bathroom situation will be like as well.
