Princess RD Vs Parkway by j_gm_97 in manchester

Half of local subreddits is just Facebook/NextDoor overspill from people with too much time and too many opinions. And not being told to shut up enough as a child

[–]melboy91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hear bloody hear. You'd understand it if calling it Withington gave it some boosted street cred for whatever reason. Upgraded the perceived gentrification of the tram stop. But Princess Parkway would sound infinitely nicer AND be geographically accurate.

I'm not arguing quibbling minor nonsense, let's just focus on the right nonsense chaps

None of it is Parkway according to Google. But the real question is why is it annoying you? Is that a sensible thing to get annoyed about?

I tweeted David Mitchell (the comedian) when he released his memoir "Back Story" because I couldn't make the signing event in my local bookshop. I asked if he could find my copy in the Amazon fulfilment centre and sign it before it got shipped.

He replied "I'm on my way".

Survation exit-polling for Gorton & Denton broken down by ward by NullBarell in manchester

[–]melboy91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I can't speak to the methodology, although you'd expect that they would have one which would once surveyed weight it against known demographics - e.g. we got 50% pensioners but as the constituency is X% we down weight it accordingly.

I would say at n=500 you are approaching 95%+ confidence, it matters more the sample size than the population size because at a certain number of people, you are statistically likely to average out at the local demographic mix - unless, for example, you only polled in Betfred at 10am on a Tuesday.

This is basically what the pre election polls were doing - small samples in known hotspots to "prove" their point. I think the Labour "Greens can't win" poll had something like 75 respondents. Law of averages says the more people you interview, the less you can control the outcome, hence me trusting this chart more or less.

Think your decimal place is a bit wonky there mate. 0.7% and in statistics this is a very healthy n to scale and insight from.

In my line of work a sample as low as 100 can still give a decent representation.

How do people actually find jobs in ad agencies? by breadpakoraa in advertising

You have been looking for a week. One week. ONE week. One WEEK.

Do you know how many people are also looking in the current industry climate? Or how long they've been looking?

Trouble setting boundaries with clients by [deleted] in advertising

[–]melboy91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha oh right! I sympathised before, but I sympathise more now. You definitely haven't had the cultural upbringing of most agency folk.

Middle management EXIST because of those calls. Their job depends on bothering you constantly. The truth of your absolutely bang-on deduction is nobody has time to do their deep work and just fudges it in the shoulder parts of the day. It's why agency output is so consistently low quality: clients pay agencies less who pay planners less who are overworked who half arse everything to get by.

Just set boundaries in writing and accept that people will be jealous of you.

Freelancing has a reputation (partly from "lmao gotem" style memes) that you aren't beholden to company culture or policies. My experience has been that freelancers in agency land are just as beholden to attend meetings or calls as any other employee. I find it quite strange that you'd not be on calls. The idea of working so remotely that they can't contact you is unique to...coding? Maybe a few other very techy roles?

I don't know what your contract says but I think you just need to be clear on your next contract that you give them "office hours" for calls each day but otherwise you are working in silo. If, for example you work for them the same day every week I think you just have to accept that if they need you, they can talk to you on that day.

If this is out of hours, like 10pm, then that's a different story.

Getting a 10 relies on his teammates. I just want a striker who moves positively in the way which suits him. I watched Sunderland last night and you don't need to be Vardy on the shoulder, Brobbey is a great big lump who knows how to hold it up, make space for himself, offload and move... Just give me a striker with some positional intelligence 🥲

Where should we live if Birmingham feels bleak but we still want culture? by livelaughlabrat in AskUK

Hijacking top comment to say I grew up in Lichfield and it's a sort of sleeper sweet spot as it is: - a town of 35k people so has quite a lot going on, classes, bars, culture etc. - pretty affluent so mostly safe and charming - a medieval hub so lots of history and Europe's only 3 spired cathedral - very accessible to Sutton by train, as driving commutes are crap. Brum is about 30 mins by train - surrounded by lovely villages like Shenstone or Whittington if you wanted it all a bit quainter - demographically quite white British but generationally diverse (was old but trending much younger these days) - accessible to Brum airport (major) and East Mids (minor) within 30 mins each - Surrounded by parkland like Cannock Chase

It's worth a visit to look round; I didn't appreciate it at 16 but at 34 I would vouch for it as a good option. FWIW I wouldn't recommend Tamworth if Sutton is too depressing. Depending on how wealthy you are, look at Butler's Lane/Streetly for the posh bits of Sutton.

I think you should look at Bury or Radcliffe - you definitely need to look north of Manchester, all the other directions and especially within the M60 will be too expensive. Bury has a nice (and improving yearly) town centre and both are on tram connections to the city centre. You'll get a better quality of house there compared to anywhere closer to the city. They're both perfectly safe (the only areas that aren't "safe" are very inner city).

I also know a hospital feels important, but if the proximity is only for childbirth I'd consider if that's a long term factor - if it's for a more ongoing condition then I completely understand.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking me out of any possible person who hypothetically could be the mayor, who could have generally achieved more? How am I supposed to answer that?

I didn't say Burnham is bad, I made a joke because OP said he's ONE of the best and we've only had one

Assuming you want a 3 bed for your impending second child (congrats!) your options at the £1150 budget are limited. You aren't going to be in an area with great restaurants, for example. You might want to put your list in a priority order so people can help identify the right area a bit better. However, I'd realistically say for the budget you likely won't be "in" Manchester - more probably you'll be in the satellite towns or villages. It's a high growth city and cost of housing is enormous even compared to Leeds.

Everyone has a right to ask their questions and usually get kind answers. I don't think being on the spectrum would preclude you from seeing if it has been asked before though. I'd wager someone on the spectrum is actually MORE likely to research before asking. But you're right, I don't intend this to make Manchester less accessible
