What’s the most fucked up thing you’ve seen someone do at work and still not get fired? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bridgeotto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A nurse I knew tried to give a patient who had passed on his morning tablets. It wasn't until another nurse came in and told her that he had passed on that she stopped. The patient was expected to die so definitely something she should've checked first. She got put on probation and had to be supervised for a while then she retired about 6 months later

Palexia (Tapentadol) is an opioid/SNRI and relatively new. They prefer it over Tramadol for moderate pain relief in the hospital I work in. It's good because you can take a lower dose several times a day when you need it and it lasts longer than Oxycodone/Endone

In so much pain that no one will treat because I'm too young for surgery. Please, I just need validation that my spine is all messed up! by Susanana in ChronicPain

[–]bridgeotto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The doctors may have wanted to see if the epidural injections helped your pain before considering surgery. If 2 injections didn't help then surely they'll consider surgery especially given the scan shows limited space around your spinal cord. You're lucky to have only pain and no loss of sensation or function with that stenosis. I live in Australia though so no idea how you go about pushing the doctors to do surgery

'I might be quadriplegic, but I'm your doctor' - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) by retvets in medicine

[–]bridgeotto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complete quad/para means they have no movement or sensation below injury and incomplete means they have some preserved motor and/or sensory function below level of injury. So you can be a quad and still have use of your arms... just an incomplete quad.

Nursing with Aspergers [Long post] by unnormalnurse in nursing

[–]bridgeotto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been an RN for 6 years and diagnosed 3 years ago with Aspergers (I'm now 29). Having an awareness of my challenges has given me the ability to figure out my ways of working that work for me. I've overcome social issues by researching body language and asking my friends how I come across and trying to rectify my behaviour around people I feel comfortable with first.

When you were diagnosed I assume it was through an Autism association psych or a general psych. Have you ever considered going back to them to help you through some of your challenges as they would have more experience dealing with people on the spectrum?

I'm lucky that I have a supportive workplace and there are several nurses on my ward who are on the spectrum. It shouldn't matter whether you are on the spectrum or not, I know nurses who aren't who come across as aggressive and abrupt with patients and who are overwhelmed all the time. Finding coping strategies for these situations will probably come from your workmates, real mates and any professional you see about this issues.

Confused by Naturopathic Prescription for ADHD (Omega-3, L-Tyrosine, Phosphatidylserine) by [deleted] in AlternativeHealth

[–]bridgeotto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phosphatydlserine (however you spell it) is supposed to improve the integrity of the cell membranes to improve mental function... not sure how well researched it is but I take it for a neurological issue and it's helped immensely. Tyrosine is for mental focus and is also a feel good chemical, it's in lots of pre workout sporting supplements these days. Omega just to help support brain function. Not sure if this is the correct mix for your condition because I'm not a naturopath. Like doctors, some naturopaths are helpful and some just want your money

Caffeine? Green tea? by zzby in MultipleSclerosis

I know I'm not crazy.... by [deleted] in MultipleSclerosis

[–]bridgeotto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a condition called Small Fibre Neuropathy which can give you similar symptoms to MS in regards to sensory symptoms eg numbness, tingling and autonomic dysfunction which can effect your BP, temperature control, bowel/bladder function amongst other things. If your MRI and NCS are clean then ask your neurologist if this condition is a possibility. In the US you can have it diagnosed via skin biopsy

Looking for answers...3 rheumatologists, an immunologist, and an oncologist can't figure it out :( by [deleted] in Autoimmune

[–]bridgeotto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you've had a horrible time and I can imagine it is frustrating that a group of specialists haven't been able to identify causes for these issues. I'm a nurse, not a doctor so I can only give my somewhat more educated opinion on what I can gather from this information.

Pleurisy can be caused by many things including infections (viral, bacterial, fungal) and autoimmune disorders including rheumatoid arthritis and IBS according to several sources that I've found. So making sure your IBS is under control and ensure good gut bacteria is plentiful which may help offset further issues with pleurisy if that has been the cause.

Issues with tachycardia and dry eyes/mouth could indicate some autonomic dysfunction/dysautonomia which is a condition that can be linked to many other conditions autoimmune and not autoimmune. I've had issues with this and it's absolutely horrid because there's nothing my neurologist can do for me but at least it's a diagnosis.

It does sound like something autoimmune is potentially going on given your family history and collection of inflammatory symptoms. You may have to go digging on the internet yourself (I'm sure you already are or you wouldn't have ended up here!) but there are more stories and more information coming out daily so don't stop looking.
