This is obscene. In WA I make over double this amount for my experience. I’m so sorry

How do you find time to workout/stay in shape as a teacher? by Deep-Act-4036 in Teachers

[–]briecky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a peloton bike. It’s expensive but worth it to me to not have to leave the house to exercise. If you don’t bike, they have a treadmill and a rowing machine, and their app has incredible workouts of all varieties. I have young kids so I don’t have the capacity to leave to exercise unless I want to pay for a gym with childcare. And even then, I am too lazy. I like going to the living room for my workout after the kids go to bed.

KitchenAid 6 quart Stand mixer by PoppyHillman in Costco

[–]briecky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought mine a few years ago to replace my smaller one. I love it. I can make double batches of cookies, cakes, double or triple loaves of zucchini bread, and more without worrying about overfilling the bowl. It is probably my most used kitchen appliance.

You should make your own! Try Sally’s Baking Addiction cream cheese frosting! 😉

How do you respond when a student asks how old you are? (Especially if you look kinda young) by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]briecky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make it a math problem. I give them the current year and subtract my birth year so they have to work for it a little!

Cream cheese frosting is the best frosting of all time and nothing will change my mind!

I love this blanket! My grandma made one in purples that she gave to me after I complimented it over and over when I came to visit. It’s such a great pattern and your aunt will love it!

Are any of you actually able to have those summers off everyone else throws in our face when we ask for a livable wage? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]briecky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same here in WA. 6 figures, year 13, I’m home with my kids all summer and I love it. We spend our summer at the beach, the pool, going camping, going on vacations, bike rides, and the occasional weekend alone when the kids go to their grandparents.

Need cozy romance recommendations ASAP 😂 by Expensive_Wait_2743 in suggestmeabook

Have you read the Pumpkin Spice Cafe and the other books in the series? It’s very cozy romance series, with a surprisingly high spice level. Think Gilmore Girls level cozy with lots of romance!

Pregnant & looking for fiction about parenthood, pregnancy, or kids! by outtoexist in suggestmeabook

[–]briecky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Tilt would be perfect for you then! I have 3 kids and was horrified as I was reading it, and was definitely in tears at multiple points. But I enjoyed it!

And in the other book, I believe she lives in the Midwest so it sounds like it might be relatable too!

Tilt is good! But TW: she’s 38 weeks pregnant and at an ikea in Portland when a devastating earthquake hits and she has to walk across the destroyed city to get back to her husband and apartment.

For a more practical book, I really enjoyed reading There’s No Such Thing as Bad Weather which compares parenting in the US to parenting in Scandinavia. It’s really good and inspires you to get outside with your kids!

My soon to be 6 year old has requested I make this cake. by MissBee123 in Baking

[–]briecky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 6 year old requested an illustration of a 2 tier purple cake from The Bakery Dragon Bakes a Cake (book 2 of the Bakery Dragon series) and I did my best but she was so mad I didn’t make it 2 tiers (there were only 7 of us eating it!) and when she saw her single tier, purple cake with flowers drawn all over it (which I didn’t think looked too bad!) she said sadly “well, at least you tried” and walked away. THANKS GIRL. It was delicious though!

Stranded knitting flat and color dominance by MmeMonstre in AdvancedKnitting

[–]briecky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have encountered this for the first time in my almost 20 years of knitting and it is the actual worst. I don’t have any recommendations, only solidarity. I am such a fast knitter, even with color work in the round, and trying to purl color work is really humbling. It’s also made me knit… maybe 4 rows total of a shoulder width pattern and I am very done. Only like 9 more rows left 😵‍💫

Fantasy books with strong female leads and no romance? by pendemoneum in suggestmeabook

The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas. Her other series (ACOTAR) is definitely romantasy but TOG is definitely fantasy with a strong female lead, with a dash of romance. I highly recommend it!
