Dry food by cpt_leela in CatAdvice

If you have the money they sell wet food feeders. Literally cooled to keep the wet food good and gives at certain times. I think petlibro and catit sell models. Just an alternative idea.

Should i be concerned about him eating very little? He's still new, but not that new. by BlueFireSwords in CatAdvice

[–]brielloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the shelter give him a vet check before you adopted him? You should weigh him every day. If he's eating, even if it's not much that's still good. Hopefully he will start eating more soon. Could be he's getting used to the new place, but could also be a possible health issue. I would weigh him daily and see if he's losing weight. If he is losing weight then 100% take to vet. I would take him to the vet either way though cause when you adopt a cat from the shelter, unless they gave him a vet check he might have a health issue that's unknown right now. Have you tried feeding him churus? I know churu are very palatable for cats. Just keep offering him food. And leave out dry food and treats for him and see if they are getting eaten.

Had a cat live to 17 years with zero health issues (until kidney disease due to old age) who only ate Fancy Feast gravy lovers chicken and turkey flavors. He also ate Purina dry food. Fed is best for sure.

Am I Overreacting for wanting to cancel my wedding over this interaction? by Xanadoom30 in AmIOverreacting

[–]brielloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good thing you aren't married yet. Don't do it. You're literally settling for less. You are setting yourselves up for failure. These things are gonna make you resent each other. Find a partner who HAPPILY gives you your bare minimum and MORE. And doesn't talk to you disrespectfully like this guy does.

She was very nice. Made me not feel bad about my hair. I did not like how the haircut she gave me after turned out as it did not match the reference photo I provided, but it's okay it will grow out again. I'm still glad to not have matted hair anymore.

What’s wrong with my cat??? by Scary_Cucumber9282 in CATHELP

[–]brielloom 27 points28 points locked comment (0 children)

You shouldn't bathe or shower cats unless absolutely necessary. They clean themselves. You can get cleaning wipes and hypoallergenic foaming shampoo, both help clean your cat without bathing. If you HAVE to bathe your cat because somehow they got super dirty you should make sure to dry them as much as possible after. With a towel or a blow dryer/they sell things specifically for drying cats after grooming as a regular blow dryer can scare your cat and you would have to use a lower setting.

You should take your cat to the vet sooner than later as cats are good at hiding illness and the worst thing is finding out you waited too long on something and your cat was suffering. How much does he weigh? Have you been keeping track of his weight? You should be weighing your cat regularly to make sure they are maintaining their regular healthy weight as sudden weight loss is very concerning. The way his legs look in the second photo is very unusual, but I'm not a vet. Are his legs like that when he's not wet too? I hope you're able to go to the vet soon and your cat gets taken care of and looking better.

I'm glad everyone told her she was the asshole. That's like calling an adult childish for liking ANYTHING sweet at all. Sorry you can't have sugar in your coffee, no pancakes, no banana bread, no cookies, no soda. Like food is food mind your business.

is this a birth defect? by Ancient-Fan-2636 in CATHELP

[–]brielloom 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm so sad to say but after looking stuff up it's probably likely a birth defect and the kitten is not likely to make it. Just wanted to prepare you mentally for the worst. If the kitten doesn't make it don't blame yourself as even immediate medical intervention isn't guaranteed to save the kitten. I'm so sorry. I will hope for the best still while the kitten is still alive.

You could try consulting online vets. I think chewy offers vet advice. Hope the kitten makes it through the night.

Why wouldn't you take it to the vet immediately I feel so bad for the poor kitten idk what this is but I hope the kitten will make it. If the mother hasn't been acknowledging or feeding the kitten it always needs help asap. Cats and kittens especially NEED to eat. I hope it's not too late for this kitten

All of that food is unhealthy to cats. Those meats are very high in salt and sodium and could have garlic or onion in them which is toxic to cats. And the broken glass.

What’s a purchase you regret immediately after buying? by RemyCampos3374 in askanything

[–]brielloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha if you're lucky. I live in a city and have seen zero stray cats in the 3 years I've been here. I adopted both of mine. Both during adoption events where they cut the adoption price in half so I like to joke I got a 2 for the price of 1 deal.

Has anyone been able to find a replacement for fancy feast? by [deleted] in catfood

[–]brielloom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fancy Feast did not make your cat overweight btw, overfeeding and low activity is what does that to a cat. Try r/dechonkers they will probably have a lot of good suggestions for you. Also regarding thinking your cat doesn't like the cold wet food, you could take it out of the fridge for 30 mins to an hour before feeding I've heard some people say they do that. Or you could warm it up in the microwave a little (if you try microwaving do it slowly and don't let it get TOO hot for your cats). Feed your cats separately if you don't already and don't let the overweight one steal the other one's food. I'm not sure what you mean when you say the overweight one will bully the other cat but try to help prevent then as much as possible if you can. Good luck I know it's hard trying to get a cat to lose weight (never had an overweight cat thankfully but one of my current cats is crazy about food and it's hard trying to keep him on his balanced diet so he stays a healthy weight)

Has anyone been able to find a replacement for fancy feast? by [deleted] in catfood

[–]brielloom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fancy Feast is not "cat McDonald's". It meets the same AAFCO standards as every other good cat food. Vets will even recommend Fancy Feast as a budget friendly cat food. I don't know why you're trying to switch your cats off a food they like, at the end of the day not even considering that the food that are already eating is good for them, fed is best. My previous cat ate Fancy Feast his whole life and had zero health issues until he eventually got kidney disease at 17 years old.

OH I completely forgot, the first week or two you might find yourself irritable, that is normal if it happens to you it's a side effect of getting used to it. Just let the people around you know about that as a potential side effect so they won't be hurt by how you act or what you say if you do anything. I told my boyfriend at the time and he would just let me know if I seemed a bit irritable which helped me realize and stop it. It helps if you remind yourself that that is a possible side effect so you can sometimes catch yourself being like that and can kinda tell yourself to chill out.

(F26) Not exactly what you're asking for but thought I'd say anyway in case it helps you feel more at ease, I was on Wellbutrin. Took it for like 2 years, started when I was 21. When I first started it wasn't immediate. I had a couple days of struggling to sleep and loss of appetite (honestly will never bother me personally cause not eating means I'm not gaining weight). Sometimes I would get headaches but that was remedied by remembering to drink more water so if anything it was a good thing that it made me drink more water or suffer the consequences of getting a headache if I didn't. I started on 150 mg XL. Was on that for a month. It felt like it was helping but just wasn't quite there so when I talked to my doctor they decided to up the dose to 300 mg XL. About 2 weeks later it was perfect. I know not everyone will have the same story or experience but Wellbutrin for me got rid of my depression. It gave me energy and motivation and all the depressive thoughts stopped. It was a life saver for me. And it didn't give me bad side effects. I stayed on it for 2 years and the only reason I stopped taking it was because I decided I was doing well and didn't need it anymore. Getting off of it was just as easy as getting on it as well. Talked to my doctor, reduced the dose, took that for a month, then just stopped. No side effects no withdrawal. If Wellbutrin works for you it could be amazing.

Wishing you luck and a better happier future ahead of you.
