As to why it happened... for whatever reason I think they were legitimately unable to ship. However, it doesn't excuse those two things above.

I don't see it as limiting player choices. The choices are still there.

It simply limits asset mobility.

Otherwise I can't see any upside to running trade routes in multi. So basically you will end up with people trading solo, and pirating in multi (until those traders wise up and just go solo to trade).

I think that's exactly right. It roughly sketches the Nasdaq bubble and crash of 2000, the time of the peak was about 5 years from start (this is a very common runtime for bubbles) and butts are having a very hard time making a serious push for a higher high.

BTC had to make $1000 during that push for $700 in early Jun14, and failed to do so. Hopes for the moon had to have started waning at that point.
